A-Crimson, rich amber color. The color of a sunset. Head dissipated quickly.

S-Wonderful, oaky smell, white wine overtones with malty undertones.

T-Delightful tart flavor with a clean finish. Hints of cherry and tobacco.

M-Medium but transient mouthfeel.

0-Fan-damn-tastic. Worth the Jackson it costs to buy this bottle. Excellent in any season and environment.

Bomber dated 12/4/10

A- Beer pours a very clean orange, with little to no head. very light lacing in the glass.

S- Possibly one of the best aromas out there, wild or not. The nose is very reminiscent of supplication. Likely there are some similarities in the type of ale this is based on. Honestly I wouldn't pick out the raspberries on the nose, but there would be no doubt that this beer has some funk.

T- This wild ale really balances the 'wild' and the 'ale' better than most do. typically you end up with a lot of wild and not much ale, but this beer shows it roots as an ale in the taste. Again, i'm not sure i would pick out the raspberries, although they are definitely there. this speaks more to my palate than the beer.

M- I could do with this beer being just a tad thicker on the mouthfeel. the beer has a lot of flavor i feel like a slightly thicker mouthfeel would work with it.

D- Because this beer is a little lighter on the mouth it makes it extremely drinkable. I'm usually taxed after a 375 of supp. or consecration, but drinking a 655 of this is a joy.

This is an outstanding beer and a great addition to Goose Islands already fantastic barrel aged series. G.I. has got their barrel game down.

2011 vintage, bottled 12 November 2011. Enjoyed 11 May 2012, reviewed from notes.

Pours reddish amber, quite red, actually, with a 1-finger white head. Nice retention.

Smell is good, but not as potent as I'd like it to be. Some fruity berry sweetness and some lemony sour.

Taste is such a fine balance of raspberries and gentle smooth sour, blending together perfectly. It's a delicately executed balancing act between the sour and the fruit, with each one coming to the fore, then receding a bit, then coming back out front. Finish is an interesting vinous dryness.

Mouthfeel: highly carbonated, which is just right for this kind of beer. Light in weight, high carbonation, and a lovely dry finish.

A really really tasty sour. Reminds me a lot of RR Supplication - a fruity sour with an excellent balance between those two.

Vintage 2010: Bottled 12/04/10. 650ml. brown bottle many thanks to Pierre-Luc and Julien. Ale brewed with raspberries aged in wine barrels. Salmon-orange with a white head. The nose is very appealling with red wine (pinot noir) and strawberry. I very like this nose. The taste is wonderfull with wine, pinot, raspberry. There is some oak as-well. This is an easy drinking beer by it's acidity. One of the best.

2011 Bottle into goblet.
My mouth has been watering for a good sour lately.

A- Copper/red pour (looks like the color of raspberry jam) Short lived half finger soda like head that lasted mere moments. Lacing is zero.

S- Huge raspberries, followed by a lemon and cranberry sourness. The wine barrels add a nice sweetness that compliments the sour and the tart berries. Slight yeast quality.

T- Right up front you get sweet raspberries, than as your mouth analyzes is more it turns super tart and finally a clean feeling washes over your tongue. You drool a little and go back for more. I really get a wonderful vinous quality. The raspberries really punch you in the tongue and you get a cranberry juice as the two mix together.

M- Light bodied, high effervescence.

O- This is a home run in my books. It's not an over the top Cantillon sour that the masses would wince at. It's easy drinking, palatable to most and just an overall wonderful experience.

2011 750mL bottle of Lolita. Pours a cloudy amber color with a moderate head that leaves great lacing. Mild scent of raspberries, wine, and yeast. Some of the taste reminded me of olive juice. Taste was smooth and mellow with raspberries, wheats, and yeast. Rich, creamy, and very delicious.

2011 edition, bomber into a Cantillon taster/flute.

A: An off-white head with serious fizzle pops away into nothing, just a scant ring about a pink-tinted amber body. Moderate haze and little apparent carbonation. Almost reminds me of the 2011 Zwanze or Lou Pepe that I drank from this very same glass.

S: Sweet sour funk. As soon as I popped the cap, the funk came out. The barnyard is well balanced by the raspberry, malty sweetness. Among the best "wild" noses I have encountered in an American beer, second only to New Glarus' R&D Geueze. Tart, sweaty, just a touch of hay, rotten meat, and medicinal notes.

T: More dry than I expected. It carries itself like Orval, more medicinal than band-aid or sweat kind of Brett, until the tartness kicks in. The fruitiness is pretty subdued as well, or perhaps balanced is a better word. Starts mild and dry, with some citrus notes in the middle, and finishes with a bit of pucker. More citric than acetic, to me. Fantastic.

M: Low-to-medium body. Carbonation really blew itself out early on, but there's enough to keep it moving. No alcohol burn. Less sticky than I anticipated for a fruited beer. A bit astringent at the end.

O: This was a 16 or 17 dollar bottle, and absolutely worth it. Among the best American attempts at a funky Belgian that I have encountered. Not quite a proper lambic/geueze, really, but still damn good. Captures many of the desired "wild" characteristics in the best way, but in a balanced manner. Thoughtful to the last drop.

Pours a light red/pink with a pretty small head and a good mount of bubbles sticking to the sides of the glass. Smells strongly of tart raspberry. Taste is giant puckering sour upfront which fades nicely to raspberry. Carbonation and mouthfeel are pretty on par with what I expect out of a good wild ale. Overall pretty decent beer

On draft @ the Goose Island Belgian Fest

Very tart & sourish aroma. VERY bubbly and nicely carbonated - leaves some spotty lacing around the glass. Reddish purple hue - this is a fantastic looking beer.

Flavor is an awesome blend of several intense flavors - the tart raspberry really comes through with the wild brett yeast making its presence felt as well. Very tasty.

Interesting beer and something I'm looking forward to trying again, but not sure how much you could drink in one sitting. Nevertheless, this is one to seek out once they bottle it later this year - delicious!

22oz bottle - Bottled December 4th, 2010 - Had at Paddy Long's with my girlfriend, for our 5-yr anniversary - Poured into two Goose Island wine glasses...

Pours a beautiful, glowing ruby red, maybe it was the dark lighting and the candle on the table behind the glass, but this beer was bright red, almost neon, and looked beautiful sitting in the Goose Island stemware. Only a thin cap of sparse white head formed, leaving some haze on top for most of the drink...

Fresh raspberries, not sweetened raspberry syrup, but pure fresh raspberries fill the nose. Fragrant, but not overly sweet. Slightly tart and very dry. Oak and brett spice take over after a few whiffs, the brett is very apparent, quite musty and funky with a strong oak finish. Very, very good...

Raspberries provide a good deal of fruit sweetness, while being slightly tart and biting. The raspberry flavor does fall out rather quickly, giving way to the brett, which is very strong in this beer. The beer becomes very musty and dry in the finish, with oak and a bit of spice. The barrel is very apparent in the taste, as is the brett. Definitely can taste the Matilda components in this beer, but the subtle oak additions and the fruity and tart raspberries take this beer way past what Matilda could ever hope to be. I would have liked the raspberries to pack a little more punch, maybe be slightly more tart, but still, this is a fantastic beer. I can't wait to try another batch if they decide to remake it and try to improve upon it...

Light to medium bodied. Fairly high carbonation makes this beer feel pretty light. Finish is dry but a bit too abrupt, oak and dryness lingers. Would have liked the fruit component to play a bigger role in the finish...

Overall, I was pretty impressed with this beer. I am, admittedly, a Goose Island fanboy, but this was a solid beer either way. The fact that it is $26 and [mostly] in restaurants only means I probably won't be trying it again anytime soon, which is shame...

My quest to try all three 2010 sisters (Juliet, Madame Rose and Lolita) ends with this beer. Poured into Goose Island Tulip, 2010 vintage with bottled on date 12/4/2010.

A: Bright red with only a touch of head and a little lace clings to the side as the glass is tilted.

S: Sweet raspberry/ Vanilla/ Violet/ Oak/ Apple cider-brett funk

T: Upfront the sweet raspberry that is displayed on the nose comes through nicely; this is quickly followed by bitter raspberry and a nice apple cider taste with a little brett funk.

MF: Not as creamy as Juliet, this beer is more crisp with a good amount of carbonation.

D: Like the other sisters this beer is quite drinkable. Everything is balanced nicely.

Overall:
Great brew! This is a very primary beer; it lacks the complexity of some Wild ales but beautifully displays its fruit characteristics. Perhaps with age the secondary characteristics will come out more, however, like the Juliet I would be afraid that the beautiful display of fruit would fade robbing the beer of its best quality. Well-done Goose Island! It was a treat seeking these beers out. I look forward to the 2011 versions.

(Served in a chalice)
bottled 12/04/2010 bottle number 727
A- This beer pours a very slight hazy to the cranberry body with a gentle carbonation of tiny bubbles gliding to the surface. There is a think head of snow white that last a good bit. The last pour of the bottle turns the glass into a snow globe.

S- The tartness blends with some dark raspberry flavors and a soft bretty wood note in the finish. The aroma is simple but full.

T- The raspberry tartness is light and gives way to a wet wood and some brett notes in the background. There is a light white wine tannin in there aswell. The raspberry note lingers a bit in the dry finish.

M- This beer has a medium-light mouthfeel with a tight fizz that scrubs a bit too much of the finish away. No real alcohol noticed.

O- The well blended soft tartness supports the full dark fruit flavor with a nice bit of acidity. It would be nice to taste a little more of the funk and wood but it is delicious non the less.

My first of the three sisters. 2011 vintage (11/12/11 #1338), been cellared since purchase. Served from a 22oz bomber into a big red wine glass.

Pours a beautiful, slightly hazed, rose. Fizzy one finger head dissipates quickly, leaving no lacing. Lots of bubbles, very effervescent looking.

You can smell the funky raspberries as you pour. Smell is of aged berries and some barnyard funk, but in a good way. Smells like a fruity wild.

Fermented raspberries and that wonderful brett funk. Can taste the red wine barrel in the finish. Leaves a lingering tartness that makes me want to keep sipping. Very complex. I like this one.

The mouth feel is what seals the deal for me. Light and playful on the tongue. Tons of little bubbles. Tartness coats the mouth perfectly and the red wine barrels add a nice dry finish. Very well done.

Overall this one took me by surprise. I like sours, but am not normally a fan of fruit beers. I have always wanted to try this particular brew and was lucky enough to find one. I'm glad I didn't let this sit in the cellar much longer, six months in the bottle seems to be perfect; just enough for the brett to do its thing but keep the raspberries at the forefront. Recommended highly to any BA who can get their hands on it. Cheers!

Bottle shared by mdfb79. Thanks Dan.

The beer is copper to amber in color with a small white head that leaves sparse lacing on the glass. The aroma brings raspberries, berries, malt, wild yeast. Smells like a tasty American wild ale. The flavor is pleasant. Not remarkably funky or sour, but rather easy to drink. Light in body, but not thin. Raspberries and oak are the dominant flavors. I thought this was a really enjoyable brew, and would happily have it again.

Got this about a two weeks back, distributor said they only got 5 cases?! So big thanks to Jeff at Winner for giving us a case! And John Michaelsen, I owe you a dollar my friend! The staff over priced it by one dollar! Sorry buddy!

22 oz bottle, 2011 vintage, bottled on 11/12/11, 9% abv.
Pours a reddish, copper color. with a 1-finger white head. Nice preservation.

Fresh raspberries in the nose at first. Then comes some great notes from the wine barrel. A bit disappointed as I would have liked more raspberries to fill the air!

Taste is excellent, a wonderful balance if raspberries, smooth but gentle sour, these all merge with wine notes. You also get a little oak note. The finish is very interesting, a wine like drying finish.

Overall la great beer, keeping two bottles for the cellar to be opened in 2014!

Very nice.

Another beer I shared with zimmerbloke and mtunell...

Served in a New Belgium Globe

A reddish orangey color. Minimal head. Very little lacing.

Smells huge of raspberries. Some nice tartness shines through...

Taste is huge raspberries. Very sweet, good tartness. Really sweet, but not cloying.

Feels a tad undercarbonated, but very solid otherwise. Medium full body.

This is another beer I look forward to trying with some age. The beer right now is young... With some time, I see this really becoming great.

Bottled 11/12/11 (nice palindrome, that)

Appearance: Pours a ruby-infused copper color; not much of a head appears and what does quickly fades to a ringlet, leaving just a few vague dots before disappearing completely

Smell: Tart raspberry purée and oak with hints of yeast phenols, including Brett; rather floral and seductive (hence the name, no doubt)

Taste: The sweeter side of the raspberry appears first, but it doesn't take long for the enticing tart elements to beckon; by mid-palate, the oak, the Brett and the wine barrel all parade their attributes; very dry, after the swallow, thanks to the Brett, with a lingering floral quality

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body, with gentle carbonation; makes you want to pucker

Overall: Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta.

Blind BIF #8 from trxxpaxxs. 22oz bottle split with my buddy Bo and poured into a Deschute's snifter.

A: The beer pours a clear orange/red that almost seems to glow. There is an initial cap of pure white head that dissipates quickly into nothing. No lacing to speak of. 3.5/5

S: Looks like we are hopping back on the sour train. It appears to be a raspberry sour train and my love for all things tart and raspberry will probably be reflected from here on out. Hint's of oak mingle with fresh raspberry skins, lacto barnyard funk. Awesome. 4.5/5

T: Initial blast of sweet and tart raspberries with layers of lemon zest. The oak and the funk come forward as it warms. Very balanced between the funk and the raspberry tartness. Delicate and lovely. 4.5/5

M: The carbonation level is a touch low which leaves the mouthfeel a bit thin but the flavors that hang around are fantastic. Super dry and snappy finish with flavors of raspberry tartness and oak lingering after each sip. 4/5

O: Overall this is a world class sour and should be pursued accordingly. I would drink this every day if I could. I'm so slutty for raspberry sours....

Epic tasting shared with nhindian

A: Hazy red pour with deeper traces of brown and hints of orange around the edges. Very small white head with spotty lacing.

S: Not as tart as I was expecting at all. A decent amount of fruit (raspberries), oak from the barrel, and some booze rest on a tart backbone to create a pretty balanced nose. Some funk rests in the background.

T: The oak from the nose is no where near as prominent on the taste. A bit more funk and tartness comes through, but really fruits and slight booze dominate. Balanced and smooth, the taste is very nice.

MF: Light to medium body with a lower than average carbonation.

O: I really enjoyed this. I'm glad the barrel and fruit take over the smell and taste instead of vinegar or tartness. It provides a bit more balance than I'm used to with American Wild Ales.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Tulip.

Appearance: Orangish-pink with thin light tan head.

Smell: Tart raspberries, apple cider, vinegar, oak and pepper.

Taste: The taste mirrors the smell, but the Cabernet Sauvignon oak barrels come through more strongly, giving this a definite wine-like character. Raspberries are also pretty dominant, but not as tart as expected. Some lemon as well. Overall, more peppery and dry than tart.

Feel: Moderate carbonation, fairly light body, extremely dry finish.

Overall: Certainly not one of the most mouth puckering Wild Ales out there, but I am not sure why so many think that is a bad thing. This is actually well balanced from all the components and I love the wine-like character it has. Plus this is much more refreshing than any red wine.

Nice light red with touches of golden color gave it a nice bright appearence. tart grape skins, cherries and loads of funk, some light spiciness and a decent touch of oak. lots of dark fruit, tart funkiness and a nice earthy, woodsy like smell blending together very nicely on this one. Silk like smoothness, and the finest carbonation bubbles, really well done in that regard. ;ots of sour in here right up front with frapes and light lemon like citrus taking over. Rolling through some nice notes of cherry then came over me. Decent funkiness in through the middle and the finish

Poured from a 22oz bomber into my trusty Loterbol tulip. Many thanks to wilfu for a major hook-up with this one!

Bottled: 12/04/10

A: Pours a deep orange with ruby highlights. 1/2 finger of bubbly/fizzy, off-white foam that quickly disappears down to a thin, creamy ring that leaves no lace in the glass. Relatively hazy with some pretty active carbonation.

S: Initial whiff of vinegar that blends into some tart raspberry, funk, tangy grape, citrus, and finally finishes with a tiny hint of barrel. Picked up a bit of fresh-cut grass from the second pour.

T: Much like above with a further blossoming fresh berry flavor. As it comes closer to room temp, it picks up definite vinous flavors as well as some damp barrel. Nice how fresh, sweet raspberry melds so well with tart berry and grape, citrus, and funk.

M: Starts sweet and then an acidic, vinegar mouthfeel gradually takes on a spicy and peppery note. Oaky astringency during the finish. The finish falls off rather quickly.

D: Fantastic drinkability here. Like Madame Rose, this is a sour that doesn't strip the enamel from your teeth. I can't imagine what a 1/6 barrel of this would cost, but this (and Madame Rose) is something I can could see putting on in my kegerator.

A - Deep ruby red/amber brown in color with lots of carbonation racing to the top of the glass. Not a lot of head on this one (seems to be a common theme with the 3 sisters). Slightly hazy.

S - Like most american wild ales, lots of brett. funk on this one and the wine barrel aging can be slightly detected. The raspberry aroma is a lot like a raspberry jam/preservative, nice and juicy.

T - Lots of sourness upfront from the yeast, and with the added dryness of the wine barrels make this beer quite tart. The raspberries are subtle and allow other flavors to come through, and they taste quite fresh and juicy. Lots of oak left on the palate in the aftertaste as well as fruit tartness.

M/D - Medium body and very dry. Champagne-like carbonation. Very easy to drink, but hard to drink fast due to how dry it is.

From 04/29/11 notes. Bought a bottle of this at Hopleaf in Chicago the night before Dark Lord Day. Bottle #0745, bottles on 12/04/10.

a - Pours a clear dark amber color with a reddish tint, low carbonation evident, and one inch of white head.

s - Smells of oak, cherries, raspberries, light tart, some funk, and fruity malts. A nice combination of light tart dark fruits, light funk, and light oak, where nothing was overpowering and everything about it was enjoyable. Outstanding nose.

t - Tastes of tart cherries, tart raspberries, oak, some funk, and fruity malts. Again, everything is balanced and light, yet refreshing.

m - Medium body and low to moderate carbonation. Pretty easy to drink.

o - Was between buying a bottle of this and Madame Rose and while I have still not had Madame Rose, I was very happy with my choice. Overall I thought this was a great, very drinkable sour. It isn't the most funky or sourest wild ale out there, but was refreshing and a beer I felt like I could have drank the whole bottle of. Light sour raspberries and cherries complimented by light funk and oak. Would love to get more of this one.
