2011 Vintage, bottled February 6, 2011, enjoying it at 13 months old. Served at cellar temperature.

Pours black with a one finger brown head that recedes to a ring and wispy cap and leaves but a few spots of lacing behind.

Aroma is roasted malts, a good bit of dark fruit such as raisins and figs, black currant, black licorice/anise, some dark chocolate and coffee, maybe some herbal hops in there as well. A bit of alcohol. Very good strength.

Flavor is full of rich dark fruits, rum-soaked raisins, plums & figs, black currant, a good deal of black licorice, some chocolate and coffee, a lot of roasted malt, moderate sweetness, minimal bitterness on the finish along with some alcohol heat. I’m sure its mellowed some since it was bottled, but extended aging wouldn’t hurt.

Mouthfeel is medium/full bodied, sticky, oily, moderate carbonation. Not the thickest stout out there but still pretty heavy-duty in the grand scheme of things...

Very, very big Imperial Stout. Heavy on the anise and dark fruits. A real treat, although I generally go for more the chocolate and coffee forward examples of the style, I do enjoy a nice licorice/raisin bomb as well.

2013 - Craft Ale House, PA
ST-Draft for Goose tap takeover.
A-dark, stout, not much lacing, typical
S-Smell was sweet stout mixed with a strong chemical smell. It smelled like ground black pepper was poured on top.
T-followed the smell, good basic stout, but then some weird syrupy strong cough medicine taste and more black pepper.
M-apart from the taste it was smooth and creamy.
O-I had a sample luckily, not sure if I could have finished a whole bottle or full pint. I've been told the recipe has changed as they moved back to brew this again after some time off?!? InBev may have messed this brew up a bit. I have a 2011 bottle and I will compare that to this fresh tap version.
