The new beers just keep coming to Iowa now! I picked up a 22 ouncer today. The label is cool. It looks like night to go with the name.
I cooled this beer to about 50 and poured it into a tulip glass. It did not look as thick and viscous as other stouts when I poured it but it is absolutely black brown. The head is a beautiful brown, not dark brown, but a very dark brown for a beer head. The head dropped down but has pretty good lacing as well.
The nose was not as intense as I expected. Vanilla, charred and malts.
Taste. Wow this is one rich beer. Loaded with hop bitterness yet sweet. Very good malt profile with coffee and chocolate. Not that many beers have this many flavors blended into one. The mouth feel is really thick and sweet. That is the only thing that kept me from marking this even higher. I love the beer but a 22 oz. bottle is going to take awhile due to the richness. This beer may be better than Bourbon County, possibly the best I have had from Goose Island.

22 Oz bomber dated 11/19/12 poured into a pub style glass.
A: Pours black into the glass, opaque. Thick layer of tan foam slowly recedes to a 1/4 inch head with lacing.
S: Hops aroma followed by dark fruits (dates, plums, raisins, figs) then dark roast malts.
T: Follows the smell but also has an alcohol aftertaste.
M: Full bodied. No sting from the carbonation. Smooth.
O: A very likeable imperial stout. A nice sipping stout that would go great with a winter night in front of the fireplace.

2013 - Craft Ale House, PA
ST-Draft for Goose tap takeover.
A-dark, stout, not much lacing, typical
S-Smell was sweet stout mixed with a strong chemical smell. It smelled like ground black pepper was poured on top.
T-followed the smell, good basic stout, but then some weird syrupy strong cough medicine taste and more black pepper.
M-apart from the taste it was smooth and creamy.
O-I had a sample luckily, not sure if I could have finished a whole bottle or full pint. I've been told the recipe has changed as they moved back to brew this again after some time off?!? InBev may have messed this brew up a bit. I have a 2011 bottle and I will compare that to this fresh tap version.
