Upon opening the bottle you receive a pleasant aroma and on pouring the smell is obviously even more intense. First impressions are that of a true Oatmeal Stout however the mouthfeel and taste/aftertaste beg to differ.

The appearance is that of a Stout, nearly pitch black, however this one does present some amber tones on the glass edge when held to light. Head is thick with nice lacing but not completely creamy like you would find on a Guinness or Samuel Smith's. The taste is immediately chocolately with a smell of oats. The mouthfeel is actually kind of weak and bitter, surprisingly, given the pleasant look and smell of this beer. Drinkability is still above average.

There are certainly much better Oatmeal Stouts out there than this one but sampling a 6 pack should go down just fine.
