From 01/23/13 notes. Had this on tap at the Clybourn brewpub in Chicago.
a - Pours a dark brown, almost black color, with one finger of dark tan head and moderate carbonation evident. Looks like a really nice stout.
s - Smells of roasted malts, bitter chocolate, toasted malts, and some light cream. Nice, but nothing too complex here.
t - Tastes of roasted malts, bitter chocolate, milk chocolate, cream, oats, toasted malts, vanilla, some sugar. Taste is better than the nose and a step up for me.
m - Medium body and moderate carbonation. Smooth and easy to drink; no heat to it at all.
o - Overall a pretty nice foreign stout, but tough because I found Resolutions, Black Seas, or XL on tap/cask all better than this one. Some nice sweetness in the taste though the nose is a little lacking, and easy to drink. A solid foreign stout but with so many other great GI stouts/porters on tap, would go for one of those other 3 again before going for this one.

Enjoyed at the Clybourn location.
A: thin head No lace really on a jet black body.
S: coffee, roasted malts and vanilla.
T: follow nose well with sweet vanilla throughout but moving from roasted malts to piney and coffee bitterness in the finish.
M: smooth medium in body and moderate carbonation.
Overall: this is a nice flavorful stout with a strong coffee presence which I prefer in this style. I also had this on cask and the chocolate flavors are incredible but these are hard to pick out on the tap version.

Served in a pint glass at the Clybourn brewpub.
Let's get some stouts, boyos! This one pours a very dark black-brown topped by a finger or so of tan foam. The nose comprises roasted malts, light char, grass, and a touch of molasses and dark chocolate. The taste brings in more of the same, with the bitterness of the char and dark chocolate really coming to the fore. The body is a solid medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a generally smooth feel. Overall, a nice stout, but a bit too bitter for my tastes.

Pours nearly black, though the discerning observer will find trace amounts of burgundy near the periphery. Tan head is slight and hardly lingers. Flavor is of dark, roasted malt with a hint of cocoa. A slight alcoholic twinge is lurking there somewhere as well. I had a really hard time getting a handle on the flavor profile because I was drinking Goose Island's Dublin Stout alongside it, but I will say I found it to be less creamy and slightly more complex than the rather straightforward Dublin. I'd probably have to have it again to give it a more objective review, but this time around I found it to be a decent, if unremarkable, stout--certainly more akin to a porter than say, an imperial stout.

On-tap at GI Clybourn. Served in a pint glass.
A- Pours totally jet black with a half-finger of creamy tan head.
S- Roasted malt, char and dark chocolate.
T- Similar to the nose, big roasted, slightly smoky malts, some chocolate and toffee.
M- Medium-bodied, smooth creamy feel.
O- A pretty decent, simple stout, I would drink this again but I've had much more interesting offerings from Clybourn.

Draft poured into a pint glass
A: Goose Island Honest Stout is gratuitously black in color with a thin line of tan head.
S: Roasted and chocolate malts predominantly comprise the aroma with hints of coffee in the back. Traditional but nice.
T/M: The taste followed suit with dark and smoky roasted malts, some nuttiness, subtle chocolate, a medium amount of carbonation, and some more of the coffee been in the finish. Again, very traditional, but in a good way.
It’s a good, “honest” stout.

Big thanks to Kirk for the awesome growler in the growler plus BIF. 64 glorious ounces!
a - opened the growler and filled my southampton RIS oversized snifter. the beer poured a thick and creamy looking brown which settled much darker. thin off-white head that didn't hang long. future more aggressive pours yeilded a frothy head, but never one that hung out for more than a moment or two.
s - roasted charness. kind of porter-like which to me is fairly represented in many brews of the style. some coffee. smells nice.
t - roasted malts with a definite porter char to it. there is a fruity thing in the background too...almost cherry. pretty solid stout. as it warmed, some cocoa powder came out in the flavor, but all in all nice charred flavors.
m - smooth and cooling. not super heavy, but definitely bold. leaves a bit of a tingle.
o - overall, solid offering. really nice on this unseasonably warm day. the 64oz should be perfect to watch the giants crush the seahawks! thanks again kirk...really glad i got to try this draft only (at least at this point) offering from GI. very nice stout and one that i'd definitely drink again.

Served in 20oz Goose Island Imperial pint glass at the Clybourn location.
A: Dark brown/black with 2 fingers of head. Pretty good retention and carbonation is present.
S: Dark roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate. Pretty impressive overall.
T: Much bigger than anticipated! Roasted malts, chocolate all follow the smell. Light, but big on flavor.
M: Good carbonation, full bodied for a stout at ~6%.
O: A great session stout. I would drink this regularly.
