Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a 14 oz "pint" glass. Pours a translucent yellow orange with a one finger head. Smells of floral and earthy hops, very inviting aroma. Tastes of floral hops and earthy aftertaste. Beer is a tad over carbonated, but light body finishes nicely. Overall, a superb beer.

12 oz. bottle poured into a tumbler.

A- Dark copper orange, with a sticky laced half finger light tan head. Retains well.

S- Pale malt backbone carries a subtle floral/citrus hop nose.

T- Very well balanced sweet biscuity malt, with floral hop. Lots of each but nice and mellow.

M- Fairly full sticky body, with a semidry finish. Pretty easy to drink.

O- Delicious, and mild for an IPA, but still well within the range. A good IPA to break into the style. I'd recommend this to new IPA drinkers.

355ml bottle, poured into La Chouffe tulip.

A: Golden, clear, large head, very good retention and lacing.

S: Hoppy citrus points to Cascade or similar hop being used also had notes of cork and farmyard.

T: Husk, grapefruit, pine, grain, apple. Bitterness came in at the finish along with a slight hint of molasses.

M: Light texture, well carbonated, crisp. Very easy to drink.

O: Had depth, balance and was very well crafted, they nailed this one.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a golden amber with a half finger white head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of sweet biscuit malt, light citrus hops. Flavor dominated by lemon citrus and citrus and grassy hops, light biscuit malt. Finishes a bit abruptly with mild citrus, apple juice, but a faint residual grassy hop bitterness. Nice medium body with light creaminess. An adequate IPA, but could have used a bit more malt to support the citrus components. Hops a light to moderate. Not quite as malty as I'd expect for and English IPA style.

Part of the Goose Island mix 12 pack...

Pours a slightly burnt orange with an inch of off-white head...nice lacing on this one.

Getting more prominent sweet malty aroma than hops...the hops that are there are more floral than citrusy to me.

The flavor is more malt forward than hop forward...not that it's a bad thing. Tasty beer. The hops are not bitter at all, making this one a very easy drinker. Carbonation seems a bit low too, and it's not a dry finish either...quite refreshing actually.

This is a nice, simple and very drinkable IPA. Not a hophead dream come true, but a good easy drinking affordable IPA nonetheless.

Appearance: Clear. Golden amber. A decent lace of head lasts throughout the duration.
Smell: Pine and citrus.
Taste: Malty, grapefruit. Bitter finish.
Mouthfeel: Well balanced. Dry.

I really like this English IPA. It is quite malty. The moderate bitterness is enjoyable. The grapefruit and pine are refreshing. Honestly, it's close to an American IPA. I would probably get this again.

Pours a golden copper color with a finger of head, some of which sticks around for a bit leaving nice lacing on the glass. The nose has hop notes and some lemon as well. The flavor is a solid combination of malt and hops and the finish is dry and bitter. This is a pretty good offering for a single IPA.

A - Pours quite dark for the style. Dark copper color with a thin white head. Lacing left behind is surprisingly nice. Carbonation appears low as few bubbles slowly rise to the surface.

S - Mites, but nice and crisp. No real complexities. Smells simple enough, light pine and citrus notes. Nothing crazy.

T - Malt forward. Quite sweet caramel malt notes here. Hops try to come through but never make a real statement.

M - Refreshing enough. Crisp and clean. Finish is bitter.

O - Nothing spectacular here. Worth ticking off the list, but won't seek this out again.

Bottled on date of 02/16/13

Appearance - Pours a crystal clear golden amber with an off-white, 2 finger head. Great retention, resulting in a fair layer of microbubbles spanning across the surface. Great lacing with good stick.

Smell - Biscuit, fruity esters, a touch of spice and some floral and citrus undertones.

Taste - Spicy, floral hops upfront and throughout. fruity ester notes. Faint apple. Mild but prominent citrus zest and spicy hop character culminates at the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium in body with moderate carbonation. Coats the mouth before a bone dry finish.

Overall - A quality example of the English IPA style. This won't satisfy those hop heads looking for their next "hIghBU" fix, but it suits this beer adventurer just fine. One I'll have to revisit at some point in time.

To be honest up front, I need to revisit this, as this came on the heels of a weekend IPA binge. No chance in this scenario, as I tackled some top notch IPA's over the weekend. Had this on tap in CO, so likely not the freshest. This was very good combined with blackened fish tacos. Very easy to drink!

Dark orange with a little white head that doesn't last long but deposits consistent lacing around the edge of the tall glass. The smell is not strong; perhaps the beer was served too cold for the aroma to come through fully. Grainy malts underlie soft earthy hops and a bit of spicy dankness; this potpourri smothers fruity scents. Goose Island IPA smells almost as if unmalted barley or wheat in the mash with some roasted malts. Tastes of big, earthy and slightly oily noble hops may disappoint a throat yearning for the stinging bitter refreshment of citrusy and floral American hop cones.

This IPA has a big foamy body. The carbonation is noticeable in a frothy rather than prickly way, accenting smoky dark malts. It goes down easy with very little bitterness for my palate, which is accustomed to mouth-wrecking northwest IPAs. This one is more in the British style, with notes reminiscent of Belgian yeast: a bit of bubblegum and some tropical fruitiness. Alcohol warmth sends this one through the mouth smoothly as lacing lines the glassware. English-style Chicago IPA in the Seattle-Tacoma airport; just fine.

P: A clear golden slightly orange tinted body with a small dollop of off-white head that fades to a marshy wake. Nice effervescence screaming to the top.

S: Spicy whiffs of chili powder, white and black pepper corns, watermelon rind, and grapefruit. Traces of pine needles.

T/M: A nice toasted salty toffee malt base with hoppy melon, papaya, persimmon, cereal grains and a peppery dry resiny finish. Zesty carbonation in a moderate body.

O: A decent English IPA. Not much else to say. A spicy brew to say the least but not overly accomplished. This just lacks in flavor profile and aroma. Im still waiting for it to change and be better. Probably not a go to beer in my opinion. But I'm still on the fence with the EIPA.

Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: Manzanita pint glass
From: Cherokee Market Beer & Wine in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $9.99 for a 6-pack
Purchased: April 28, 2013
Consumed: April 28, 2013
Misc.: Born on March 11, 2013

Poured a caramel orange hazy color with two fingers of white frothy head. Very good layered khaki white lacing all the way down. Great retention of layered film all the way down.

Smelled sweet floral hops, lime citrus hops, pine, tropical fruit, faint resin hops and even some caramel malts. Clean, crisp and refreshing.

Tasted similar to the nose, not quite as strong as I’d thought it would be. Almost tastes more like a pale ale than an IPA. Lime citrus hops, orange peel, orange, grapefruit, resin, pine.

Light body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Lively carbonation. Clean, crisp, watery abrupt finish with some bitterness lingering on the tongue after.

I’ve had this before and I thought it was a bit better, but I wasn’t feeling it. This IPA just didn’t impress me.

Gave this a vigorous pour into a snifter that produced a dense two finger head. The body is clear amber, like whiskey.

The aroma is an incredible spicy, piney, citrusy affair swirling around with lots of sugary candy sweetness.

The taste is all about the hop's; it's bitter up front and bitter on the end, but sandwiched in the middle is the sweet stuff--the caramel malt.

The mouthfeel is light bodied with medium carbonation, and it doesn't have a dry finish at all, but rather juicy.

Overall I liked it a lot, and look forward to more Goose Island brews.

12oz bottle into pint glass

A - dark yellow in color, clear, 2 inch white head, decent retention, thick lacing

S - grapefruit, pine hops come through, malty as well, slight yeast as well

T - grapefruit hops are big here, malt backbone as well.

M - one of the lighter IPAs, but not lacking in flavor

Overall - Good all-around beer. balanced flavor of hops and malts, not over bearing on the booze or weight, so you can enjoy a few of these in one sitting

12oz bottle into a pint glass
Bottled on: 03/01/13

A: Pours a crystal clear golden amber with 2.5 fingers width of slightly off white colored head. Good retention and lots of honeycomb lacing.

S: Malt predominant, with sweet, caramel/toffee, and nutty aromas. Very subtle hop characters with a touch of pine and citrus. Smells nice, but not your typical IPA.

T: Like the nose the taste is malt forward. Pale malts, sweet caramel, and toffee. Hops are slightly more prevalent here, and are mostly piney bitterness. Hints of citrus rind too. Palate profile as a whole is fairly mild though.

M/D: Pretty smooth, medium body, carbonation on the lighter side which is appropriate. Drinkability is good.

O: Overall, above average but not great. Ill finish the 6 pack bout doubt I would buy this again. Not that its bad, there are just so many great IPAs available, and this is not one of them.

This beer pours a medium golden hue, with a two fingered, fine bubbled head, which has good enough retention. The aroma is ripe with sweet stone fruit and tropical fruits, and a bit of honey. The taste follows the nose, with a medium, balanced hop bitterness, and a sweet malt character - a tad bit too sweet, but good flavor overall. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, mild bitterness perception, and rather wet. Overall, this is a very nice tasting English style IPA, but maybe a bit too sweet.

Enjoyed this beer out of pint glass on tap at Union Jack's in Annapolis, MD

A: Pours a golden ale with a 2-finger white head that slowly dissipates into a solid lace leaving a great trail all the way down the glass.

S: Floral hops aroma with a light malt nose.

T: Sweet malt at first followed by a spicy bitter middle and finishes on the dry side of hoppy.

M: Medium body and medium carbonation.

O: Solid ipa – great flavors and aromas.

Pours medium orange with a foam white head what does not last. Some lace.

Some citric notes and toasted malt. Some grain and fruit in the nose, as well as a honeyed aroma.

Some citric hop notes, moderately toasty malt, a little fruit, and ok bitterness. Not overly complex, but the balance works. Finishes with some bitterness and an equal amount of malt.

Medium body, a little slick. Good carbonation.

A decent average IPA. Easy to drink, good with food. Worse than others, better than most.

Bottle poured into a pint glass. A recent find after having seen draft availablity fairly often. Brewed at Bud plant in NY and bottled on 2/17/2013, so about 6 weeks old. Pours a golden straw with a finger of soapy off white foam and good clarity. Offers decent lace and moderate retention.

Bright citrus hop aroma, particularly through the foam initially. A bit more difficult to gather as the pours settles however, yet always available with some agitation. Taste starts with a creamy grainy delivery. Segues to a coarse middle of neutral grain followed by a watery flash and a decent lingering bitter orange character that doesn't have a harsh character to it. Medium bodied feel though it varies through the palate quite a bit. Overall a decent beer for the style and offers good drinkability yet doesn't quite grab you either. Likely exactly what they were aiming for however.

12 oz bottle pours a clear, dark gold color with an ample cap of off-white head. Modest retention but good lacing.

Nose is piney-citric with a fruity yeast presence. Malts are toffee with maybe a little peanut brittle toffee-ness. Ok nose, smells a little old school though...like an IPA made before IPAs got really good.

Taste is decent as well, but nothing great. Pine and orange peel hop flavors with more bitterness than flavor. Malts are big enough, neither applying a slather of sweet caramel nor ghosting across like many a West Coast IPA. Mouthfeel follows in the same vein, solidly medium. Really, this beer is pretty boring and just tastes like a recipe formulated back in the 90's....thats no fault of GI really, I understand the need to keep a consistent recipe for the fanboys, but I wont be buying this one again.

S: Grass, pine, evergreen, melon, flowers and grapefruit.

T: Very sweet. Pine and evergreen hops are in the background with sweet light caramel overpowering everything else.

O: Too sweet for me. Although the nose is great, there isn't enough flavour hops to offset the sweet malt to keep it interesting.

Appearance. Pours a deep yellow gold with almost a finger of white head.

Smell. Earthy English hops and a little citrus, butterscotch and some grainy malts.

Taste. Earthy grassy hops, nice bitterness. Caramel malts in the back.

Mouthfeel. Medium body, smooth medium carbonation.

Overall. Maybe not my favorite ipa style, but that being said it's a good brew.

This is a great example of a classic English IPA. The balance of hops and malt is spot on. I love that the malt shines through on this and that the nose and flavor of the hops do not completely cover this up. The beer is crystal clear...which means they have great filtration. This is a more sessionable IPA and I love enjoying this with a burger.
