Notes:
This ale pays homage to the Irish who settled on Kilgubbin Island, in Chicago over one-hundred years ago. Made in the Irish tradition, Kilgubbin is brewed with roast barley and chocolate malts giving it a rich ruby color. A touch of malted rye gives it a spicy finish.

Decent head and retnetion nice amber color. Nice caramel biscuity malt smell. Light cocoaness in smell and taste. Taste is light and refreshing with a nice biscuityness. Mouthfeel is a little bit thin, but not bad. This brew is easy to drink. Give it a try.

appearance is nice. Has a brown redish light tint like a strong tea with just a smidgin of white foam. Not much lacing.
Smells fruity sweet with a nice malty aroma. Yeast abounds here.
Almost a bready smell.
Taste is malty sweet with just a tad of cocoa bitterness. Mabey a raisin/plum flavor in there as well.
Mouthfeel is pleasant and clean. Not much carbonation here but still a nice feel.
This would be a great session beer that could please most beer drinkers. Not fantastic but pretty good.

Looks good. Smells good. Tastes OK.
I am not terribly impressed by this one. It smells promising, but the taste and mouthfeel is weak and unrefined. There is a thick feeling it that resembles dough. It is a red ale that really has little character, and what character it does have is odd.
Another Goose egg.

Well, darn, I finally found a brew that I didnt particularly care for, bummer. It had a good pour mahogany brown with a foamy and lacey head. Then, a sharp and biting earthy aroma, including spices and rye.
But the taste, a doughy malt followed by an overly powerful rye grass. Just not my cup of tea. Brew was dry and crisp, medium bodied.
Cant win them all.

12oz. bottle thanks to jhammerly.
Pours a clear chestnut brown with not so much red. Has a creamy eggshell head that thins. Nice lacing on the glass.
Aroma is malty and nutty with a hint of cocoa.
Taste is malty and nutty upfront followed by a light cocoa flavor. Finishes malty and nutty with very little aftertaste.
Medium body, decent carbonation.
This is a nice driking Irish "red" ale. It just needs to have some actual red in the color.

Paid $5.99 for a 6-pack...
The beer pours a slightly hazy dark amber colored base, with an off-white tinted medium head, great head retention and very nice lacing effects. The aroma was a little bit of hop flare and that was it.
The taste is filling, a nice mix of toasty malts and hop character. The M&D both fit very well, the head retention add more to the taste and the aftertaste is pleasant. The drinkability is top-tier, I would gladly drink this as a session, and for $6 you can't go wrong.
Final Thought: Another reason why Goose Island should dominate the Midwest... they are clearly better than the Boston Beer Company.

Poured a nice dark amber red with a light white head with good lacing.
Smell was all roasted malts.
Taste was dominated by the nice roasted malt flavors with just a bit of grassy hops. Very light and toasty malts not at all sweet.
Mouthfeel was crisp and refreshing.
Overall a solid and easy to drink Irish Red.

Appearance: Poured from the 12 oz bottle into a standard pint glass, the beer has a decent 1/4 inch head that sits atop a dark amber body. The head fades to a patchy cloud and soapy ring around the glass. Spotty lacing as the beer is consumed.
Smell: Aromas of roasted malt (smells like roasted barley and a little chocolatey) also a little and floral hoppiness.
Taste: Well balanced, with the malt starting this one off and carrying the prmary tastes. This was not sweet at all for me with tastes of roasted malts, a little roasted chocolate. This does have a nice little hop bitterness on the finish.
Mouthfeel: A little thin but not watery. Has a crisp, clean, finish with a light carbonation. I do get a few hop burps as I drink the beer.
Drinkability: A fine seasonal, one that I will likely get again next spring. More than one can be easily consumed. Originally had a six pack for St. Patty's day, I held this one last beer in reserve for a proper review. Bottle had best consumed by 072506 on the label.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle leaving an inch head that receded to 1/8 inch and surface skim rather quickly. Not much lacing. Color is a tranparent reddish brown, like brewed black tea.
Aroma - Bready malt and some citrus hops.
Taste - bready malt , very bready, also black tea. Slight lemon hops, a little upfront, but mostly at the end, also contributes to tea tones ( think iced tea w/lemon ). Little bit of smokiness from malt roast. Dry, but not bitter finish. Very pleasant.
Mouthfeel - moderate fullness to light, moderate carbonation, smooth.
Drinkability - this goes down easy, and I'd certainly have more in one sitting. Although this is a spring ale, I think it's light enough
(in taste and body) to drink on a hot summer's day.

Appearance- brownish red, stern yet inviting
Smell- very bitter withe the atmosphere of apples
Taste- the beer is bitter and sharp
Mouthfeel- carbonation is a tad high, but this adds to the distinctiveness
Drinkability- hard to drink fast, the bitterness and bight at the very materialization of the pallet or taste, makes this red ale a wall to guzzle. Nurses fine though.
All of the Goose Island's beer I've had. Has that trademark beautiful complex bitterness. That in turn is scrumptious. This seasonal is a little different in that it seamed to be a little more sassier then there regular Honkers Ale. Bitter, complex, slightly spicy, and good.

12oz single, Woodman's, best by 6/26/06
appearance: pours a full mahogany-amber into a great dane imperial pint glass, full foamy beige head with, very strong retention, pretty clear body. an appealing irish red
smell: a surprising dose of fresh and alive green hops, sweet caramel malt presence, very earthy aromas, a touch of spice
taste: while the aromas were nothing tremendous, there is a lot going on in this beer....fresh green hops, sweet bready malt, rye, creamy caramel, a decent spice presence, a woody feel, a hint of smoke. A very good irish red from goose island
mouthfeel: medium body, adequate carbonation
drinkability: sessionable

Another Goose, in the older Goose packaging. It was deep amber, poured with no head and minimal carbs. Smelled grapefruity, almost like a better pale or IPA but mellowed a bit by the malts used. Mouth awoke the palette, no real foam, bitter exploded down and amber lager aftertaste. This was a okay tasting dark pale? It was darker like coffee and had hints of coffee, but did not have the bitter note of a red. It seemed like a darker Honker's ale with muted tastes in favor of burnt malts rather than fruitiness. It was like the flavor stopped rather than followed through to make this great.
Not a bad beer, but the Honker's is a better choice.

Pours red-amber in color with anoff whote head.
Smell is earthy, woody, with strong malt character.
Taste is similiar to the aroma with the toasted malt taking center stage giving this brew sweetness up front. Pleasant light fruit and nut notes. A touch of caramel. Finish is lightly hopped and dryer than expected with lingering clove flavor.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied
Not a bad brew at all. I wouldn't mind a little more 'oomph' and balance to the flavor. This would still be a decent session beer.

A very good Irish Red. Red's are usually a boring style for me, but this beer is solid. Not a standout with any beer quality, just balanced to perfection. An obvious ruby color, clear, with a mild trace of head retention. Aromas of bread, toast, yeast and barley malt. Tastes quite malty for such low gravity (expected), and hopped for balance and a little spice. Remains bready and yeasty well into the taste and finish. Moderately bitter and malty finish. Not dry and not overly alcoholic. Solid, but not a standout.

(Served in a Nonic)
A- This beer has a deep reddish-brown crystal clear body that is a bit opaque. There is a creamy off-white head that last and last with a gentle carbonation to keep it going.
S- The smell of fresh malt and fresh green hops come through in this beer. A hint of dry lightly toasted malt comes through as it warms.
T- The fresh pale malt has a nice dry biscuit note with some chocolate malt in the background. The green hops that finish have note of pine and pepper in them.
M- This beer had a medium mouthfeel with a creamy texture.
D- This beer has fresh well balanced hops and malts with a good complexity to the malt. The beer had an overall dryness that really enhanced the malt flavor.

A quality product from Goose Island, as always. I arrived at work and was a bit surprised to see all of the spring / St. Patties seasonals in already, and then I realized that the schedule had been changed and I didn't even have to work that night. Great! A time to catch up on some new seasonals.
The beer pours to a dark amber color, fairly clear, and with a good carbonation. The head builds to about an inch and settles out to about a centimeter after a few minutes. The lacing is good.
The smell is of sweet, gently roasted, caramelized grain with a nice spicy hop aroma. The taste is very similar but much more powerful.
Very fresh, crisp, and drinkable. Almost seems like a lager, such as an O'fest, with the crisp hop finish and light body. This beer was a very refreshing change up from all of the bigass beer I've been drinking.

12 ounce bottle. Goose Island Kilgubbin Red pours out a clear, dark amber color with half an inch of head. Grain and hops aroma, with some spice in the background. Toasted malt flavor with an earthy nutiness. Slightly bitter finish with lots of hop flavor. Mouthfeel is medium to full, and slightly creamy. Carbonation is slightly high. Good drinkability. I like the use of hops in this beer. The hops are prominent in the nose and give this beer a juicy finish. Nice red ale.

Appearance- Clear, dark, red-tinted amber. Ample, sticky, off-white head. Bits of foam cling to the sides of the glass.
Smell- Strong, piney hop aromas.
Tastes- Slight malt sweetness up front, complimented by leafy, burnt hop bitterness in the finish. It's a bitter beer overall, but the hops aren't as strong as the aroma would suggest.
Verdict- It's a serviceable red, though it could stand to be more adventurous.

A - A clear reddish amber with a small head that dissapears quickly. Not quite the color I was expecting.
S - Malty, touch of caramel and hops, again, not nearly as in your face as I'd like. Slightly roasty.
T - Malty and roasty with a nice hop backbone. Lots of lingering smoke and roast.
M - Thin in viscosity, but still very rich. A good job overall with the texture of this beer.
D - At first sip, you'll think one is enough. But it grows on you quickly and goes wonderfully with a variety of meals. I am impresed with this beer.

A- It pours nice 2 inch had and has a nice dark brownish-red color to it. The head is nice and fluffy, and laces nicley as it goes down the glass. Always a plus in my book.
S-Smells strongly of sweet caramel, and piney sweet hops.
T- Caramel comes on strong and some toast. Almost bread. There is bitterness at the end, and has the background of hops. Very little hops prescence.
M- High gravity makes it heavy on the palette. It is very slick and smooth. Gummy feel during the after taste.
D- Overall it is very good for it's style. Very drinkable.

Pours a clear copper, nice offwhite head forms, laces well on the glass. Smells like rich malts, some chocolate, a hint of citrus. Wow, this is tastier than I remember it being. Smooth milk chocolate, lemon zest in the middle, hoppy bitter finish. I think the time this bottle spent in my kitchen brought forth some of the hoppiness. Nice carbonation, smooth and nicely dry, tasty beer.

12 oz bottle pours a clear copper body with a scant beige that quickly falls to a collar. Some chains of lace are left on the glass.
Roasted caramel malt and spicy floral hops comprise a subdued aroma.
Mouthfeel is light medium bodied and the carbonation seems a bit too much.
Taste has a slightly sweet caramel malt backbone with good floral hops bitterness.
I'm not much of a fan of Irish Red Ales, and this one doesn't do much to alter my opinion of the style. Good drinkability, but not something I would buy again.

Light bodied, nice reddish amber color, slightly hazy, with a modest tan head.

12oz bottle obtained via trade with CRJMellor. Thanks for the opportunity...
Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 3/4" beige head over the reddish copper brew. Head lasts reasonably, and laces well. Aroma is lightly fruity grain husks. Taste follows the nose, although the fruit seems to turn almost into a tea-like flavor, with a dry close. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, even for the style, and drinkability is okay. A nice ale, just wish there was a bit more substance to it.
<edit> Got even thinner as it warmed up, pretty watery overall.

Pours a reddish-brown copper with a lasting white foamy head.
Aroma is understated: grainy with faint notes of smoke and spice and a toasty/bready overtone
Smooth and easy on the palate malty sweetness balanced... not too sweet Light toasted character..some fruity flavours with a subdued citric finish. Mild and malty scotch ale with a wisp of peat smoke.
