Style | ABV
Irish Red Ale |  4.50% ABV

Availability: Spring. bottle (107), on-tap (23), cask (2), nitro-tap (1)

Notes:
This ale pays homage to the Irish who settled on Kilgubbin Island, in Chicago over one-hundred years ago. Made in the Irish tradition, Kilgubbin is brewed with roast barley and chocolate malts giving it a rich ruby color. A touch of malted rye gives it a spicy finish.

Pours a clear light amber, with a thin head that quickly dissipates. No real lace on the glass. Aroma is very good... toasted malt, a yeasty aroma, faint hints of coffee and caramel. Flavor is malty as well... not very sweet, more like bread dough. A bit of roasted malt is detectable, but very faint. Hops lean toward the spicy side, but are very subdued... just enough to balance things out. Medium bodied, with medium carbonation. This is a very easy drinking beer, and would make for an good session ale.

Poured a clear dark copper color with an off-white head. Distinctive Goose Island smell. Aroma conists of chocolate malt, caramel and has a bit of a smokiness to it. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a small amount of creaminess to it and a pleasant crispness from the carbonation. Malty midtones contain a spiciness (contributed from malted rye) that clings to the tongue long after the smoky finish has departed. This is a delicious red ale.

Pours a reddish-brown copper beer with a lasting white foam head.

Aroma is grainy with faint notes of spice and a toasty/bready finish -- I swear I smell some faint smoke too? Clean.

Smooth and easy on the palate with a coarseness that breaks thru in the form of a bitty grain feel backed by a crisp carbonation that livens things up. Malt sweetness is medium, balanced, there, not too sweet and rather dextrin-y and neutral. Light toasted character. Overall a fairly dry beer. Thin fruity flavours mix well with a subdued citric splash of hops. Finish is dry with metallic flavours around the edges and oily hop leftovers.

As far as Red Ales go, this is a damn fine example.

One of Goose Islands better brews here. It has a deep mahogany color to it and pours a reddish/white creamy head. Not much of a hops taste more malty aroma which comes thru on the tsate. A very drinkable beer that I would recommend...............CHEERS

I find this a very enjoyable beer, especially because of its versatility, in that it goes well with many styles of food, or is just a good drinking beer. A pretty straight forward aroma of malt with slight caramel hints. Big foamy head, very clear, very nice red color that looks almost mahogany. Medium full taste of malt from start to finish, with nice slight dryness in the finish that isn't particularly long. Flavor has some caramel and smoke qualities providing a nice complexity. Mouthfeel is medium without excessive carbonation. I look forward to purchasing this beer about this time each year.

a unique style to be sure. pours out a very dark red, with a slight head. some spicy malt in the nose but barely perceptible. a pretty dry beer with woody/smokey/spicy notes from the rye in the middle. hops are hard to pick out. clean, crisp and uniquely refreshing. a fine and drinkable spring time ale.

This clear dark amber brew throws out a slight off white head. Not only is there a nice dry woody aroma present, but also a fairly strong chocolate aroma reminiscent of a good porter. This tastes pretty dry. In a good way. The caramel maltiness in this red ale is there, but it is more in the background compared to a lot of red ales that I have tried in the past. The rye really adds a nice little spiciness to this brew. It seems like there are some slight cedar or oak notes. Almost like this brew was stored in wood barrels (although I don't know if that is true or not). I really like this one.
