12 oz bottle marked "bottled on 11/11/11" poured into a snifter. I have had this beer many times before, but never got around to reviewing it. Seems the Abv has gone up on this years batch too...sitting at 14.5%

a- pours black and syrupy looking. edges of the beer are a deep chocolate brown. almost no head to speak of.

s-nose is huge on the bourbon and oak, but has great complexity. hints of dark chocolate, maybe just a bit of coffee and rich sweet maltiness. slight candied fruit as well

t- man, i had forgotten how much i love this beer. huge complex flavors. seems to start with bittersweet chocolate, a little coffee, vanilla and oak then the bourbon comes to play, bringing with it some candied fruit sweetness and then back to the chocolate richness. wow thats a good beer

m- i prefer a thicker stout, and this one is one of the best. chocolate bourbony motor oil. thick and syrupy. almost no carbonation. rich and creamy on the palate. booze is definately present, especially as it warms, but i dont mind it at all

overall, i now remember why this is consistantly one of my favorite beers. just a monster beer from start to finish. I wish it still had the high availability that it used to, but i guess thats what happens when you make such a great brew.

Served from bottle into Teku glass.

A - very dark, with a small amount of tan head that lingers arouns the glass

S - Mostly bourbon in the nose with a little bit of dark roasted malts and a little sweetness as well.

T - Lots of bourbon up front backed by good roasty flavors, coffee, chocolatte etc. Decent amount of alcohol burn, but with all the bourbon flavor this doesn't really seem like a bad thing.

M - thick and smooth mouthfeel, with a good amount of carbonation

O - Fantastic beer, really enjoyed this one, and at 15% enjoyed it slowly.
