Per the suggestion of the bottle, we pour this thick, pitch-black brew into our snifters. The head is brief, but is of the color of rich milk chocolate. Dainty lacing appears as you sip. Diacetyls infiltrate the nostrils, giving the impression of a freshly toasted English muffin smothered in butter. Malts are also heavy, and roasted. The bourbon barreling adds to the aroma, and the associated alcohol is strong. The flavors take off like a runaway freight train!! Sweet, smooth roasted malts hit up front. These continue into the middle, where they are met with a smoky bourbon burn. Again, these mix, and lag to the finish, where they are subsequently joined by a woody flavoring and a sweet coffee flavor. The latter pleasantly dominates the aftertaste, which also has a fairly strong alcoholic component to the breath. The beer is full bodied with light to medium carbonation. The feel is slick, smooth, and impossibly creamy. Thanks to the 13.00% abv there is a huge warming character to each sip, which also makes this one you take your time with.

Overall, this was a fantastic find!! What we enjoyed most about it was the inherent complexity to the flavors, which find such an intricate and intimate balance and smoothness. This expert blending of such robust flavors and aromas, and the unique impregnation from the barrel aging, make this beer of an outstanding quality, placing this brew apart from its competitors.

Served from bottle into Teku glass.

A - very dark, with a small amount of tan head that lingers arouns the glass

S - Mostly bourbon in the nose with a little bit of dark roasted malts and a little sweetness as well.

T - Lots of bourbon up front backed by good roasty flavors, coffee, chocolatte etc. Decent amount of alcohol burn, but with all the bourbon flavor this doesn't really seem like a bad thing.

M - thick and smooth mouthfeel, with a good amount of carbonation

O - Fantastic beer, really enjoyed this one, and at 15% enjoyed it slowly.
