Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a Dogfish Head Snifter.

Appearance:
Pours clean with not head. Even though the snifter is designed to get some of the carbonation to the top, I can tell it's struggling to find anything to push up and whatever rises to the top dissipates quickly. However, a ring of dark brown lacing does appear. The beer itself is pitch black and darker than Cheney's soul.

Smell:
Hoo Boy. The alcohol is certainly noticeable even though the snifter isn't even in my hand. However, the strong alcohol smell does not detract much from the other notes. I can smell the bourbon barrel quite well. I get some hints of vanilla but not much chocolate or malt notes, which is a real shame. The chocolate starts to come out as it warms up.

Taste:
I can taste vanilla with a little bit of alcohol. Fortunately, the alcohol does not detract much and adds some welcome flavor. I can get some faint hints of dark chocolate but the chocolate does not really come out until the finish. The chocolate becomes much more noticeable after it's warmed up a bit and it is DELICIOUS!!!!

Mouthfeel:
Full-bodied with little carbonation. The alcohol is a little warming but not burning.

Overall:
A pretty good double-imperial but the KBS is clearly a superior one. I have no regrets shelling out money for this since it should keep me happy for the rest of a Boston winter. I recommend drinking this beer straight from the four pack and not putting it in the fridge. The chocolate seems easily muted.
