Was vacationing @ Jiminy Peak and amazed to see that a John Harvard's was at the site. Expecting the Pumpkin Spice Ale that the Long Island location brews each fall, I was surprised when the waitress told me Pumpkin Porter was on tap. The beer pours a very dark brown/near black with a slight tan head. Good amount of lacing left on the glass. Surprisingly, not much of a smell to it. You get a slight sense of pumpkin/malt, but not much. The taste however is another story. Hints of pumpkin, malt, caramel, chocolate, coffee--a beautiful beer. It's a porter, so it's expectedly bitter. As a fan of dark beers, I think it would be hard to have more than 2 or 3 of these in one session. That said, this is definitely a beer you need to try.
