Bottle from LCBO. Batch 1640. Bottled Sept 07/11.
Pours a clear rusty coppery brown topped by a thick, frothy off white head that drops nice sheets of lacing.
Aroma of peat, grains, aluminum. caramel, ash and oxidized apple flesh.
Tastes like ashy apples with a light bitter, chalky finish. Waxy. Definitely has Beau's house taste to it.
It's not wholly pleasant. The flowery, grassy bitterness is a bit much, and there's an off-putting ashiness reminiscent of Dead Elephant.

Appearance: It has a nice deep golden/orange color to it. It has a nice
off-white head that dies down moderately and leaves little lacing.
Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of caramel, bready malts, grains, grassy hops and light spices.
Taste: Like the aromas, it has some grains, bready malts, with grassy hops balancing it out, some caramel and some toffee.
Mouthfeel: It has a light carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.
Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with good flavors and aromas. Very refreshing!

Appearance: A rusty copper body boasts high amounts of thin carbonation. The head produced a solid finger and a half, but did not lace nor retain very well.
Smell: Overwhelming caramel malt with a grassy hop background and a couple orange and peach notes. Nothing fancy, nothing overtly special. Warming brings out the fruitier notes.
Taste: Ample caramel malt floods the tastebuds and is slowly supplanted by fruitier orange, peach and apricot elements as a flash of pine and grassy hops finishes off the beer.
Mouthfeel: The carbonation here very finely walks the balance between creamy and bubbly and smooth transistioning helps out the case as well. There is a nice mixed taste aftertaste to the beer which if stronger and more complex would have won the perfect score.
Drinkability: Medium bodied that while remarkably easy to drink, I don't know if I would want more then two. This beer walks a strange line to me, like it should be heavier then it is, but it still serves it well.
Final Thoughts: Certainly a beer worth trying and as a seasonal, yeah I'd say it's appropriate. I wouldn't want it in the the summer, but certainly any other time.

As mentioned by others, the packaging by Beau's is superb. I always look forward to Beau's seasonals ...
Nightmarzen pours a light rusty/copper colour, and what little head there was disappeared fast.
Not a strong scent, but hints of caramel and hops are present. Lightly carbonated.
Very light mouthfeel. Taste has some initial sweetness and a nice touch of bitterness. Very smooth.
Overall, quite enjoyable. I wonder if I got an off bottle as others report lots of head. A great beer, but not my favorite from Beau's!

Haven t done a beer review in so long, so I had a look in the fridge and grabbed the first beer my arm reached for...
Appearance: Really love beau's packaging. Yes it amps the price up (probably considerably) but there is probably no better presentation in Ontario. The beer iteslf is a rich copper hue with a nice white head that leaves ample lacing on my tall Stiegl glass.
Smell: A hint of caramel from the malt is a warm welcome. the malt is very clean and clear. Hops are present too and nicely balanced. Despite the rustic packaging from Beau's this one is no barnyardy brew. Very clean on the nose.
Taste: My wife remarked that there's not a lot of flavor here, and while I agree, it does suit the style well. The finish is where the flavors come alive however. a long toffee and pine taste is lingering and warm.
Mouth-feel: Pretty juicy. I suppose it could be a bit drier for my taste. Carbonation is spot on and helps the situation. Bitterness from the hops is really good on the finish.
Overall: A beer I could easily drink all October long, but not one I'd personally seek to drink a ton of. Nightmarzen is however a well balanced, easy drinking beer with some nice character on the finish.

Deep copper, thick off-white head. Nice clear lacings.
Clean grain, very light caramel, grassy continental hops.
Nice grain flavour, mid-palate has a good toast character with a bit of sweetness. Clean finish with just a touch of bitterness.
"Clean" is the operative word here. Flavours are clrealy defined and pretty spot-on. Feel like either the malt or hops could be amped up just a tad, but a good drinkable Oktoberfest otherwise.

Bottle purchase as soon as they were available at the LCBO in Ottawa: Poured a clear amber color ale with no head, no lacing and no carbonation. Aroma consists of light sweet grainy malt. Taste is also dominated by unrefined grainy malt with some light sweet caramel notes. Body has a weird oily texture with no carbonation. Definitely not too good and even wondering if this was a bad bottle as there was no carbonation and malt notes were off – I’ll have to put this on the re-rate list.

First time I've seen this in Barrie. Really excited to try this.
As per the card on the neck it's the brewery's only regularly produced lager.
A- Crystal clear burnt copper pour. Booming three plus finger off white creamy head. Lacing is sticky in spots.
S- Sweet malts, grains and cereal with a touch of caramel. Definitely getting the floral Noble hops in this. It's really aromatic due to it's freshness. You can't get it any fresher!
T- Munich malts and the noble hops make it very festive tasting. Bright and roasty at the same time. The hops are floral and quite bitter. There is a touch of caramel and brown sugar in the finish.
M- Lighter end of medium body. Good carbonation.
O- I can remember a time when this style of beer was terrible to me. Now I find myself craving the fall brews. This has eluded me for quite some time, but now that it's in stock locally I'm going to stock up for the season!

From notes:
Appearance: clean; amber colouring; large suds which fade fairly quick
Aroma: fruitiness hits first; hint of peach; hops lingering in the back
Taste & Mouthfeel: huge flavour - hops and malt all at once; starts to lean more towards hops after a few seconds; hints of maple and stone fruit; grassy bitterness lingers nicely; carbonation and body is just right
Overall: strongly flavoured and almost feeling like a pale ale; straightforward taste in the end

A: Pours a relatively pale copper colour. My aggressive pour yielded plenty of head. Head persists for a reasonable length of time and leaves plenty of lacing as it recedes.
S: Clean nose of yeast and hops. Slight spiciness to it. Very pleasant.
T: Malt and hops predominate. Bread, yeast, and subtle caramelized sweetness. Lingering bitterness from the hops, more than I'd like.
M: Smooth and light on the tongue, but not without substance. Spicy character from the hops. Good carbonation.
O/D: Not bad, but not great. I had higher expectations for this beer. Would benefit from a bit less aggression from the hops. Everything else is quite pleasant about it, however.

There's nothing scary looking about Nightmärzen - its shimmering, filtered, coppered gold body is rather inviting. It looks like it should be as refreshing as it is flavourful. The only thing holding back a better score is the fact that its head quickly sinks into the beer and ends up looking like nothing more than a heap of ashes.
The nose is as German as bratwurst, weird art movies and well engineered cars. It has a clean, toasty, mineral maltiness that smells chewy and rich. The average Joe might not appreciate it as the style requires a good deal of proficiency and familiarity due to its subtlety. Though inconspicuous, its nutty sweetness smells delicious.
Whatever was just said for the aroma can be equally said for the taste. It may be finespun, but the flavour profile has a wholesome, rich maltiness that let on subtle hints of apple, breadcrumb and toasted nuts. A sprinkle of Perrier-like mineralness rounds out the finish along with a brief but earthy and gritty note of Noble hop bitterness.
Saying that Oktoberfest beers are refreshing because they are lagered is like calling gravity a force that makes apples fall from trees - it's true enough but it's hardly the whole story. Oktoberfest have a paradox of being rich and hearty yet plain and quaffable. They are hopped just enough to be crisp and carbonated just enough to be animated.
Nightmärzen, like all good Märzens, is sturdy and substantial but easy to put down and not so filling or alcoholic that additional rounds seem unreasonable. In fact, second helpings are almost necessary (especially since it's so reasonably priced!). This is a fall-time seasonal that I'll be sure to pick up again next year. And I recommend you do the same.

Pours a golden brilliantly clear with a strong and persistent head.
Saaz hoppy smell perhaps. Earthy smell with subtle grass
Taste is smooth, slightly sweet and malty with a wonderful peppery bitterness. The pepper builds as the malt dissipates. Very nice.
Overall very enjoyable beer. Would be easy to drink a bunch of these. A great beer by Beau's.
