Stopped in here recently before seeing King's X at the Stone Pony, as it seemed like the best bar in the vicinity of said venue, and it's within easy walking distance. It's a pretty nice place, simple, tidy. Casual layout, with generic beer slogans lining the walls, and plenty of TV screens; not a huge place, but they use the space well. There's a bit of a rowdy (douchey), college-kid / broseph vibe going on, but that's not really the fault of the bar as much as it is of the clientele. But it's Asbury Park, so take that as you will. When I visited it was pretty busy and noisy, but our party of three still managed to snag bar seats after a few minutes.
The service was fine. Busy as it was, our bartender never left us waiting. She also seemed fairly in tune with the beer scene and was able to offer suggestions to my not-so-beer-savvy friend before I could chime in with my opinion.
As far as beer goes, they had a nice, diverse selection displayed, with such items as Lunch and KBS in the cellar. However, they seemed to really have a problem with updating their beer lists. The chalkboard over the bar didn't match the lists at the seats, and even the paper lists weren't up to date, so I had to come up with backup plans for pretty much every beer I ordered. The plus side to that is that it seems like they turn around kegs pretty quick, so at least you know you're getting fresh beer...even if it's not the one you originally wanted. I think these guys would really benefit from a digital taplist, or if they don't want to make that investment, they really need to get on the ball with keeping their lists updated.
Food is basically pub grub. Nothing out of the ordinary, but all pretty good. I had the pulled pork, which was really nothing to write home about, but it was decent. Prices were generally reasonable on food and beer.
Overall, I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to revisit this place, but if I ever find myself going to a show in Asbury Park (it happens rarely, but it does happen), I'd have no problem going back.

Stopped with my girlfriend at this place when we were down the Jersey shore... has a decent food and beverage selection with a main menu and a so-called bar menu... opted for the bar menu with its relatively cheaper prices and appetizer-like selection of chips, burgers and sandwiches... had a bunch of brews on tap including miller, blue moon, some dogfish... a nice atmosphere with pretty good quality and nice service... people seemed really friendly... good food and not a bad selection... recommended if you're in the area...

My wife and I met up with Soracloud and Mrs. Soracloud a couple of weeks ago on their recommendation, and I can happily say that this place did not disappoint.
Upon entering you are presented with dimly lit, urban sophisticated type place that is far from pretentious as it is casual at the same time. The bar is to the left (probably seats around 20 or so) with some bar area high-tops, and to the right is the more formal dining area.
There are about a dozen taps situated behind the bar and the selection included Troegs HopBack, Stone IPA, Dogfish 60 Minute, Captain Lawrence Liquid Gold, Anheuser Beach Bum (actually not a bad brew), Blue Moon, Guinness and more. Bottles/cans consisted of a lot of macros but did offer Sam Adams, Dale's Pale Ale, Pilsner Urquell and Anchor Steam. Not a crazy good selection, but for this area it's damn fine and better than almost all other establishments around. Each pint that I had tasted quite fresh indeed.
Service is attentive, offers up samples of brews to try (which is always a nice thing) and seems to have at least passing knowledge of the available beers.
For food, the Brickwall offers a Tavern Menu and a Main Menu. We ordered off of the Tavern Menu which consisted more of burgers, sandwiches, chicken pot pie, ribs, etc versus the "full meal" selections like Steaks and Seafood dishes on the Main Menu. Everything that came to the table looked great and everything that I ate was quite tasty.
Overall, this is a great new place to try at the Shore. I'd like for a bit more comprehensive beer selection overall, but I'm not going to complain about what they have and have to note again that for straight up beer bars, the area has The Ark, Crabs Claw, Market in the Middle (right next door to the Brickwall) and this place and that's it as far as I can tell. Being able to find the likes of Stone or Troegs on tap around here is kick-ass and hopefully the trend is expanded upon here and continued elsewhere. I'd happily go back to this place again and plan to do so soon.

I'm torn as how to review this place. Given the lack of quality beer places in the Jersey Shore area, this is a very welcome addition. Compared to a true "beer bar" that one might find in NYC, it doesn't hold a candle.
Having said that, they have 10-15 available draughts...some interesting local (east coast) selections. Easy-to-reach location via car or train. As noted earlier, they do not have a 'beer-knowledgable' staff. The waitresses have no idea what the beers are. I asked what kind of Dogfish Head they had, and my answer was "yes".
However, I'm glad they're here. A revitalized Asbury Park would be a welcome destination for a future pub crawl if there are more places like this.

This place is a welcome addition to a pathetic Jersey Shore beer scene. Bar is on a busy main street in dowtown Asbury Park. Area is clean and safe (though I would not venture to far- if you do follow the rule of not parking if there is broken auto glass in the street). You need a masters degree in parking meters to figure out how to use the ones in the area. The area and the bar seem to be recently renovated, but there were still enough locals to retain areas "atmosphere". Inside the bar is your typical inner city renovated drinking space (brick walls, hard wood floor and chalk boards). Bartenders were helpful (living in Vermont I know how to deal with the urban slacker/ wierdo/ biker combo), though the place was empty. They had Lost Abbey, Blue Point, Keegans on tap. Priced slighty high, but fine. Lines were clean. Would return.

Okay, after reading NeverSober's review of this place I almost skipped it. But, I also guessed that his experience had to be a fluke and it just happened to be a bad night/time.
I was in the area for business and wanted someplace to go by myself where I could sit at the bar, have a couple pints and something small to eat. I walked in around 8:30 on a Monday night and it was pleasantly busy but mostly with bar customers. I got a seat at the bar and was greeted with great service and a very nice bartender.
They have a decent selection of beer on tap, but most are along the lines of macros or huge imports like Newcastle and Smithwicks. The two notable beers on were Stone IPA (as others have mentioned) and Chimay Triple. They also had a few good choices in bottles. Not a horrible selection by any means, but beer is definitely not the focus.
I got the vegetarian spring rolls off the specials menu and they were good. Nothing fancy, but solid. The rest of the food I saw looked good - I just wasn't hungry at the time.
Overall I had a good time. Nice mix of locals and tourists with people dressed in business clothes and others in beach wear. Since I'm in the are all week I'll go back again. I think that sums it up.

I am a life long summer resident @ the shore. I was excited about a beer bar on the shore. I'm still waiting for one to open.The beer selection is VERY limited, and very uninspired. There are no foreign drafts and very few craft domestics. The wait staff are poorly trained and bad servers to boot. Our server could not tell me anything about any of the beers.
The food was extremely mundane. It arrived cold and never caught fire. Bland as dishwater and served poorly.
To sum up this is the best place on the shore and it's a bad day @ the shore.
Make the trip, go elsewhere. Buy for home consumption. The shore is still waiting for a decent beer bar.

This place keeps getting better every time I visit. The food is great, The "house" beers are great and I always leave happy. I stopped in on a Friday night and it was busy but the service didnt lack. Our waitress definatly knew what she was talking about when it came to beer. The house beers consist of your standards Bud,Miller etc along with Abita, Palm, Stone IPA and Troegs Hopback. They also feature a few guest taps of some really good beers. Golden Monkey, Single Chair, Hairy Eyeball and a few others were on tap this weekend. The word is the manager is a beer guy himself and wants the place to be known not only for its food but the beers they serve as well.

Glad to see this place got added! Well I was told about The Brick Wall from some folks at work so me and the Mrs decided to go check it out one early Saturday evening. Its towards the end of Cookman Ave (from Main St) there are a lot of shops down the street for the ladies if they want to break away from the bar scene for a spell (watch your wallets guys!)
Anyway, as a lot of folks on the Jersey Shore know, we are void of beer bars. Every establishment is a cookie cutter knock off of another bar down the street. This is truly a god send to the BA in all of us. Now I am not saying this is the Beer Bar to end all beer bars, but for Monmouth Co its a hell of a start. I really wish I brought a camera with me and took some pictures, this is a really well designed establishment. My words will most defienetly fall short of doing this place much justice but I will try.
When you first walk in you are greeted with an impressive bar, I would imagine it could comfortably fit 25-30 patrons. That is on the left, set against a large brick wall. To the right is a larger seating area where I counted about 8 high top tables and 13 full length 6 tops. I do not think you can just sit down, you need to visit the host first. The decor is for lack of a better word, construction. Menus are on clipboards as are the drink and dessert lists, condiments are carried in old wooden tool boxes. Wood, steel and ducts flow throughout the building if you have ever been to Triumph Brew pub in New Hope, they are quite similar in design. As I had stated earlier, my words fall short in delivering the true feel of what The Brick Wall is really like, you need to see it for yourself.
OK back to the bar, comfortable chairs and a large top surface to fit your pint and a couple plates of food. The kitchen I might add is open air and towards the end of the bar.
Speaking of kitchen they have a really unique menu. The appetizers (8) are not your run of the mill "bar munchies" and average out to be about $8 a piece. A large list of salads (7) come in at right around $8 also. They have two separate menus, one is finer fare averaging at around $22 a plate with 4 choices of steak 2 pork 2 Fish 1 Lamb and 1 chicken and your choice of 2 sides (i'll get to them later)
"The Tavern Menu" is a lower priced "cozy" food selection. You are given about 26 choices averaging in at $8 a piece. By cozy I mean, Chicken Pot Pie, Meatloaf, Wings, Beerkraut & Kielbasa, Mini Burgers, Hot Dogs etc. Hands down the best selection of food I have seen on the Jersey Shore.
On to the sides! Well you can make a meal of these (and I did one of the times I was there) . They average in $3 a piece. French fries, Garlic Mashed Potato, Sweet potato fries, crock of Mac n Cheese and about 8 other choices.
Beer! Yes, finally I will get to the beer! Well as I stated earlier The Brick Wall is daring to go where no Shore Bar has gone before...serving GOOD beer. The 12 tap tower is a far cry from your average BMC house and a refreshing sight. Well here we go, Guinness, Yards Pale Ale, Miller Lite, Rogue Dead Guy, Anchor Steam, Fueller's ESB, Troeg's Hop Back Ale, Stella, Winter's Bourbon Cask (AB but still good), Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA, Yuengling and Blue Moon/Purple Haze (in rotation). There bottle selection pretty much covers the Macro list with Bud, Coors, Corona, Heineken, etc (~25) So the unadventurous can still wet their whistle. They do though carry some Hacker Pschorr Weisse and Dark Weisse I believe and Woelver's. In cans, Dales Pale and Pabst.
I talked with the bartender and they like to keep a steady rotation on new products, so the list above will probably have changed but the plan is to keep it craft beer oriented, I believe he said Stone IPA was next on tap! Do not hesitate to call ahead and find out their selection. They also carry about 40+ bottles of wine averaging $20-$40 a bottle.
Live music on the weekends, the bar begins to get packed around 9pm, get there earlier in the day and you'll have the place to yourself. I really do hope The Brick Wall stays the course and sticks with what they have going on now. The only ONLY con I have was the use of frozen or chilled pint glasses. I asked that the bartender just rinse out my room temperature glass.
Great job Brick Wall, thank you for not falling into that Generic crap bar category!

Was in the area today, and based on an update to the US Cask Ale website
( http://www.cask-ale.co.uk/us/index.html ) where this place is listed as having cask ale on a hand pump, I stopped in to this upscale bar. Altho' Asbury Park is pretty empty, especially after a winter storm, the block the bar was on was packed with cars (looked like mostly construction worker vehicles, lots of building going on but not many businesses opened).
Walked in, only one customer eating lunch at the bar, a few table full. Didn't spot a hand pump handle but there were about 10-12 draft taps. Bartender shows up.
"What's on the hand pump?"
"Do you have a hand pump?"
"Cask ale. Do you sell cask ale?"
"Yeah." Points at a cartoon character tap handle.
"That's cask ale? What brand?"
"Baabaa..." (Well, that's all I was getting.)
Squint at the tap handle (sunny day after an ice storm, so there was a lot of glare and my eyes hadn't adjusted to the darkness of the bar). It then dawns on me- that's a snowman on the handle and it's A-B's *Bourbon* Cask Vanilla Ale. (WHAT'S the chance of that?)
"No, no... that's an Anheuser-Busch brand. Don't you sell cask ale from a hand pump? You're listed as selling it on a cask website."
More annoyed, puzzled looks, shrugs shoulders.
Giving up- "Is that Troegs Hopback? I'll have a Troegs."
After that, I was ignored- no menu, no asking "Are you eating?", no refill offered, etc., even tho' by then I was the only person at the bar and one of the few people left in the place.
Drank my Troegs- served way too cold- and left.
Not a bad draft selection- *for the area*- 12 taps- about half US & imported macros (Peroni was unusual) and half craft- Anchor Steam, Abita Purple Haze, Troegs Hopback, a Dogfish & a Flying Fish (blackboard didn't list style on the last two and the bartender was ignoring me) and it looked as if Stone IPA was just erased off the board.
7/23/08 - Was driving through the area yesterday and thought I'd stop in for a quick beer. Place was quite crowded at around 1:30pm, greeted by the hostess and sat at the small, half full bar- most everyone eating.
Strained to see the blackboard list of drafts, checked out the tap handles (man, I hate these ugly, huge ornate tap handles that don't simply state the name of beer). Came down to the fact that the only US craft beer on tap was Stone IPA and Chimay the only interesting import. Sat and waited for a bit, but no bartender ever showed up. Left.
Not a "beer destination". If you're in AP, stop in, otherwise....
