Not sure if this is the same beer, but this is the "Weiss" that is sold in Ukraine. Quite a nice surprise to have such a quality beer sold at Ukrainian beer prices (0.75 USD for 1/2 L.) The best thing I can say is that this is a very, very good imitation of the superb Schneider's Weisse. Is it as good? Almost - can detect a certain small level of unrefinement. Is it worth buying at 1/4 the price? To paraphrase a certain American politician, "you betcha!"

500ml can poured into a weizen glass by freshness date.

A:
The pour forms thick white Hefeweizen head that stands by good retention before gradually collapsing to a layer of foamy lace, cloudy yellow amber color with medium visible carbonation in texture.

S:
Big clove, caramel, bubblegum and banana are heads up also big bready malt and citrus zest in late participation.

T:
The taste is well balance in mingling wheat malt, barley malt and hop. Yeasts also play well by yielding big clove touch in the lead along with banana, spice, bubblegum and citrus. Bitterness is left there by hop with a ghost-like quality.

M:
Feel is rich, crisp, smooth and refreshing generating by firm carbonation within its medium body, very dry finish.

O:
Precisely a good to go with any occasion, high drinkability and could be treated as good session beer.

Pours hazy light golden with huge and beatiful white head with excellent retention, thick lacing. Aroma is light wheat, citrus and some yeast.

Taste is a little subdued, but typical Hefeweizen, some wheat, banana, spices and yeast. Mouthfeel is refreshing light/medium with lively carbonation.

Overall, not bad at all. Could improve the taste a bit, but price/performance is unbeatable, I bought it for 29 euro cents (not including the bottle deposit) in a German supermarket.

500ml can

A- Light golden, very clear for a hefeweizen, but still quite hazy. Great and persistent head as usual when pouring in a weizen glass, not much lacing though

S- Light wheat with some citrus notes on the back, overall very much on the sweet side

T- Nor strong nor complex. Malts on the light side, with a slight bready hint. Then some lemon and bubblegum notes. A very sweet beer overall, even for a weizien

M- Light body and carbonation fit the beer's overall 'easy' feeling. Goes down smooth with nothing worth remembering

O- Among all the german Hefeweizens i've tried (and they are quite a few) this is probably the less interesting one. Being so simple and easily drinkable, it was not either so much refreshing

330 mL can. Brew date: May 13, 2011. Best by: July 13, 2012. 4.9% ABV, 11 degrees Plato.

Appearance: Straw color with a touch of orange. Slightly cloudy. Two fingers of dense foam, having very good retention.

Smell: Banana esters are evident, also detected some citrus notes. Not very strong.

Taste: Mild but typical weisebier flavors; some banana, yeast, malty. Again as with the smell, the taste is not overpowering in the least.

Mouthfeel: A bit light in body. Finishes a bit dry. Carbonation is fine for the style.

Overall: Not a bad beer by any stretch, but not exceptional. I would drink it if I couldn't find a better weisebier. Quite easy to drink, in fact.

A: Color according to the style, it is an intense amber color with some hue orange, also cloudy in line with style so it is good enough, the only problem is that poor carbonation and the head doesn't leaves a lot of traces, good size and white color with small bubbles, a permanent layer remains all the time.

S: Could be better, it is not to strong but you can sense some citrus inside as per the style, also it is not clear but may be some little aroma to banana, low hops and some malts of course the wheat.

T: The flavor start neutral but then the wheat flavor is the dominant not to intense it is somehow simple not to complex as in other Hefeweisbeers

M: Starts with a refreshing feeling then turning to a little bitter sensation.

My oettinger hefweizen poured from the can with a deep orange cloudy body and some very fine carbonation bubbling just behind the glass, which I quite liked the look of. The head sat rather low and left a fair bit of fine bubbled lacing upon drinking. The smell was of sweet fruit and honey with grain. Taste was nothing complex, but still enjoyable: grainy with some earthiness and a slight bitter aftertaste, and the expected yeastiness that gradually became more present. This hefeweizen had a nice creamy mouthfeel thanks to the carbonation, but became flatter and watery closer to the finish. Overall, this hefeweizen is a very enjoyable drink, even if not uniquely so. Bonus points must be given for price - although it might get a bit more credit if it weren't so damn cheap. This is definitely my favourite oettinger brew.

Draft: Poured a hazy light orangey/beige color weizen with a decent foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aromas of banana ester are quite dominant with some nice notes of wheat malt. Taste is refreshing with notes of wheat malt with balanced sweetness level and banana ester, Body is quite full with average filtration and good carbonation. Not sure why this one is rated so low - it isn't the best weizen out there but it still well brewed IMO.

.5L, Germany, best by 2/11.

Pours a bright, cloudy straw-orange with a great head and good lacing.

Aroma is surprisingly good, with some ripe fruit notes and that quintessential banana character. A bit tart and floral, too.

The flavor was, unfortunately, pretty watered-down. There's nothing too off-putting about this beer (uncommon for Oettinger), but then again there is not much substance either. None of the qualities of the aroma come through in the flavor, and all you're left with is a non-descript yeasty breadiness. Touch of spice. Mouthfeel was a bit creamy but in the end, average. Light and still very drinkable.

This is the best beer I've had from Oettinger, and yet I was still disappointed. Can't go wrong with the price, though.

Picked up a 500ml can from Super Walmart in Cancun, MX.

A: Pours a cloudy yellow. Very large fluffy white head with decent retention and lacing.

S: Some bananas and cloves, also get a slightly metallic odor. Also some yeast and wheat notes.

T: A lot of banana here at the beginning, less so as it warms. Very yeasty. There is also a bubblegum flavor at the end that is a bit unpleasant.

M/D: Smooth with nice carbonation, very refreshing. At first I really enjoyed the banana flavor, but the more I drank it the less I liked it, as the bubblegum taste took over. Not bad, but not great. Have had better in this style.

Drank this hefeweissbier in the Paulaner glas i have. The beer gives a big white head which only slowly disappears, leaving a nice white ring. There is much carbonation which i like in this kind of beer.

There is no specific smell, in the beginning there is some yeastsmell and far away some lemon.

The taste is not the best taste i ever had drinking this kind of beer but it's ok.

With a better than normal mouthfeel and a good drinkability this is beer to try.

Poured from the 500mL can into a weizen glass.

A: The beer is a light gold color, very cloudy. Head is about 4 fingers, pure sparkly white with good retention.

S: Spicy aroma of clove and banana - typical. There's also lemon zest in there, orange rind, pear. A light yeastiness lies under everything, along with a light note of lemon vodka.

T: Very yeasty and wheaty. Fruitiness in the middle of apples and pears. Light biscuity malt in the mix as well. Finishes with what reminded me of plain oatmeal, bubble gum, and yeast. As the beer warms a bit, the bubble gum taste becomes more pronounced.

F: Crisp as it hits the tongue and somewhat drying. Smooth going down.

D: A good beer and easy to drink. I can't tell if it's because I live in a country lacking in beer quality or if it's that good of a beer but I'm impressed regardless.

The last Hefe I had was the stellasr Andechs Hefe, so this one has big shoes to fill.
Pours out a hazy orange-tinted malt tone. Light head, slight bit of tan hint of color in the head. Active carbonation
Smells a bit vegetal. Corn, and wheat. BUt there is that strange "plastic" smell that happens when you hit temps too high in homebrew. Light yeastiness, bit of fruit thats about it
Taste is better however. Active carbonation keeps mouthfeel lively, light wheat creaminess. The flavor is donimated by the carbonation. It overwhelms the palate a bit, leaving it hard to discern specific flavors. Light fruitiness, some yeasty mustiness. Bt for a Hefe, a bit too carbonated.
Mouthfeel and flavor reminds me more of a Kristallweizen then a Hefe. It really lacks th deph of flavor and mouthfeel found in other examples. Turn down the carbonation, and crank up the yeast, bitte. But at .45 cents, ill drink it

From a 50 cl can, this beer is a hazy, orange-yellow liquid. It's very cloudy, and the head is disappointingly fragile. The smell, though, is pretty nice...citrusy wheat-twang in the front, followed by lots of spice, banana. There's a little fruit in the smell as well, and a fresh grass aroma. The taste is a little tart and drier than necessary. Fairly well carbonated, which gives the beer a spritz y character. A little disappointing. It's not hard to find much better hefes.

A- Pours a cloudy, yellow-orange. Nice, fluffy white head with decent retention and leaves a nice lacing.

S- Smell is mainly of wheat malts. Only a little banana.

T- Taste is pretty weak. Starts off following the smell, wheat malts. Then I get a really strong note of bubblegum. That flavor lingers for a little on the finish.

M- Carbonation is a pretty light. Goes down pretty fast and easy.

D- Couldn't drink more than probably one of these. That strong bubblegum flavor is not very pleasant by the end of one glass.

Overall, I've tried quite a few weissbiers in Germany now, and I would definitely place this one on the lower end of the spectrum.

Picked this up at a local supermarket in La Cruz Costa Rica near the Nicaruagan border, much to my sheer delight!

A: Poured into half sized pint glass (hey, that's all they had in the villa) Cloudy off yellow 2 finger growing head. Retained and laced very well.

S: Banana and earthy smell with dash of a biscuit.

T: Banana and yeast but not overpowering, an interesting midlness which i'll say was intentional, and hopefully not because of the date.

M-Heavy and fully carbonated but not overly acidic.

D-The best beer I had in CR the entire time and a wheat I've never heard of. Glad to see that the German expats and tourists in CR have brought their beer with them. Considering it was from a can, this was an excellent quaf.

First bottle of beer I had in Germany while on vacation.

Pours a relatively hazy dark Yellow with a nice flufy white head that dissipates very slowly. A wonderfully balanced bouquet of wheat malt and aromas from hefe yeast. Flavor and aroma is of faint clove and banana and hefeweiss. Goodness.

I`ll have more.

from jenny lou's in beijing

500ml tall brown bottle

cloudy, golden honey with orange tint. decent head slowly fades to thin wispy layer. negligible lacing tends to slide down the glass between sips.

aroma is faint, sweet hints of clove, whiff of banana and yeast. a bit diluted.

flavor is also a bit diluted, overly-evened-out, and muddled. nothing off-putting, but not very flavorful for a hefeweisz. mild bitterness with some phenolic notes into the finish, but again too faint to make any distinction.

smooth, but thin. carbonation a bit too lively.

the middle-of-the-road flavors actually make this easy to drink, but very unexciting.

Poured from a 500ml can bearing a "best before" date of 13.07.08 on the bottom of same. My brother brought it back with him from a recent trip to Switzerland and Germany.
Appearance: murky dark yellow color topped by a fluffy white head that produced ringlets of lace.
Smell: not too much going on here; lots of pale malt aromas but not much in the way of the usual banana-and-clove yeastiness I love in a German hefeweizen.
Taste: again, the signature banana and clove taste (and sometimes, bubblegum) is very restrained. Virtually non-existent, really. Good malt character but also bearing a mild metallic tinge, probably from the can.
Feel: light, creamy, refreshing.
Overall: not too bad, especially considering it's coming from a can. Still, I'd like to experience more of that clovey, banana-y yeastiness goodness here. Decent, but nothing to shout to the heavens about.
