A bottle conditioned British ale that has its good points but overall is pretty average. Great label and presentation though.

Pours slightly carbonated, a clear dark copper with a limited bubbly head that laces somewhat. The aroma is a muted blend of malts and some English hops, but very limited nose overall. The flavors are also rather bland, some biscuity flavors with a slight hop bitterness. The beer has a decent mouthfeel for the style. Worth trying if you can locate it, but not really an ale for the regular rotation.

A cloudy ruby hue with a large lasting tan head on the pour with good lacing throughout to the end. Aroma of sweet toasted caramel malt, dark fruity notes, plums, dates, liquorice and some light alcohol esters. Taste is sweet toasted caramel malt, dark fruity flavors of plum, liquorice, some yeast, raisins and some light bitterness. Palate is a medium body with a smooth mouth feel and mild carbonation. Finish is sweet toasted malt, dark fruits, plums and raisin notes, light liquorice flavor with a slight pungent sweet bitter ending. Overall this brew was quite good tasty and enjoyable, very nice.

I am making an effort to clear some of the beer out of my basement and Dorothy had been sitting down there, patiently awaiting our rendezvous(es) since yesterday evening. We woke up together this morning and she was ready for a second go-'round as was I, so here we are.

From the bottle: "A bottle conditioned ale - pour slowly to retain natural sediment in bottle. Best served slightly chilled." Aye aye to all of the above. Rilly?!? Slightly chilled? A hot number like Dorothy? A quick cool-down in the shower may be in order. Save Water, Drink Beer! Save Water, Shower With A Friend! Really Save Water, Drink Beer While Showering With A Friend! She is nodding in assent, so away we go.

I'm back, Dorothy with me, slightly chilled. I went with a VERY gentle pour as she is not into the rough stuff and I did not want to agitate any yeast in the bottle. No worries, though, she has no yeast problems, in case anyone was wondering. No head, other than wisps, at this time but a beautiful garnet color with NE-quality clarity. There is a real reason that MILFs are gaining popularity - many women get better with age, Dorothy hopefully among them. Nose had a caramel/toffee sweetness, suggesting that the hops had faded in the aging process. Mouthfeel was thin with a sherry-like dryness and a very mild bitterness in the mouth. In looking at the style description, it strikes me that Dorothy has aged quite nicely. It probably helped that it was bottle-conditioned, but I make no apologies for having forgotten her. I just got overwhelmed with work at one point and could not give my stash of beer the attention that it deserved. Finish was likewise dry, the hops making a grassy appearance at the extreme finish. Thanks for hanging in, Dorothy!

Pours a nice reddish-copper color with a one-finger head into my glass.

Buttery malt with just a hint of hops upfront. Seems rather diluted. Possibly an older bottle.

Ditto on the taste. Buttery malt compliments just a smattering of hop bitterness. It's the classic bitter formula at work here.

Lingering sweet/buttery malt. Nothing to crow about here.

It's not bad but I was expecting more from the style. I just have a difficult time mustering up the motivation for home-team examples of this style.

Red-copper, huge tan head steadily shrinks to 1” lasting top, some nice rings of lace.

Aroma is rich caramelized barley, toast, light tea, leafy and strong, with some mineral/iron, some vague dried cherry. It is very English and pretty nice.

Taste is a lot of very winey fruit – mostly cherry, raisin, and prune – with caramelized toast and a strong woody-leafy-earthy-herbal, tingly hop character soon joins but then becomes more vague and subdued. Hop bitterness just dominates he finish and aftertaste, which is very dry and toasty with hints of dried fruit in brandy. It’s a bit heavy and drinakbilty is not high, and the character eventually settles into good but somewhat two-dimensional quality.

Not that impressive to look at, but not bad. Chestnut to auburn in color, clear, without much head and only spotty lacing.

Smells of bready caramel malts, with a touch of fruitiness and a grainy background.

Tastes pretty good. Caramel malt characters are bold, accented with a nice fruity flavor, with a touch of hops and some grassy notes.

Feel is smooth and relatively light, with a nice lingering bitterness.

Overall it's pretty good.

Impressive and lasting head, leaving lots of chunky lace. Chunky recession as well. Deep amber color. Clear.

Mildly caramel aroma. There's a touch of deeply toasted malt bitterness. There's some alcohol to the nose as well.

Rich broth with a low level of carbonation. This is a predominately malty brew. There's enough hop bitterness to give it a little balance. Overall, this is a dry beer with a creamy finish. The finish has a enough hop to make it interesting.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 1pint .9oz bottle into a nonic pint glass. The label has a very brief description of the beer plus serving temp. It also has the abv listed at 6%.

Appearance: The body has a deep amber color with a burnt orange to reddish highlight. It has tons of visible carbonation rushing up to its thick and creamy head. The tightly packed off white head leaves lots of cool lace patterns and rings on the glass.

Smell: It's malty and sweet with notes of caramel and toffee. Underneath the maltiness is a mild dried leafy/herbal and slightly mineral like hop presence.

Taste/Palate: Meeting on the tongue are wonderful malty bready notes with hints of bready yeast, caramel and toffee with mellow fruitiness. Light leafy and herbal hops add a pleasant balance of mild bitterness to the finish. Its mouth feel is a solid medium to full and smooth as silk with mellow carbonation.

Notes: This beer has a brilliant flavor, balance and excellent drinkability. Cheers!!!

A 16.9 oz bottle into a water glass. The color is a deep amber with a slight haze. Head is tan and moderate in size with decent lacing though not much retention.

The nose is rich malts and floral hops with a touch of caramel.

This is a big, malty beer with a bit of hops but almost no bitterness. It is smooth and creamy with a bit of complexity and a nice balance.

This is a full-bodied beer with moderate carbonation and despite the fullness and body it is still easy to drink.

Slainte.

Dorothy Goodbody's Our Glass is a deep amber/red color with a half inch, beige head that fades to a collar.

The aroma is sweet caramel malt.

The taste is lightly caramel, but there is an unpleasant after taste of copper penny. The taste doesn't noticably improve after warming.

The mouth feel is medium bodied with sufficient carbonation.

Drinkability is good. A 6.00 ABV is quite reasonable and I can get past the after taste. The only drinkability knock is the fairly high price tag on an above average beer.

Everything about Dorothy Goodbody's Our Glass is slightly above average, and so is my rating.

had this to finish my mug list it was the first beer of my night but it was all i tasted the next morning. poured nice and thick firm head griped the glass,very strong heave taste thick smell of alcohol with a little prune finish very heave hard to get down i was lucky to keep it down!!

Pours a reddish amber with a bubbly head and some fair lacing.

Scents of fermented stone fruit and a little caramel.

Bunch of different flavors here. Malt is sweet and toasted, almost smoky. Some dried stone fruit elements, with a little toffee note and and odd, medicinal/almost iodine edge to it. The hop presence is adequate, and the finish is fairly clean.

Moderately carbonated, decent bodied.

Overall, not too bad. A decent ESB, with some oddities. It was one of those beers that you see week after week and never buy -- so I grabbed one. A bit more marketing than quality, but decent just the same.

Pours a fairly clear dark amber color with a large inch and a half off white head. Decent retention and some spotty lace.

The aroma is ok. Some bready type malt, slightly sweet, with a bit of caramel.

The taste is ok. Caramel, nuts, and bread, slightly sweet, and a very slight bitterness. Not terribly impressive.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and moderately carbonated leaving a nice tingle.

Drinkability is moderate. This one is fairly easy to consume, but the flavor is a little uninspiring. I wouldn't be upset if I didn't get around to this one again.

Pours copper with 3 fingers of rocky tan head. Super lacing & very good head retention

S: Plums, pears & apples

T: Plums, apricots & leafy hops up front. Some dryness, more fruittyness plus herbal hops & caramel as well. Finishes with figs, plums & herbal hops

MF: Medium bodied, subtle carbonation & superb balance

Drinks very easy, a proper English ESB!

Dorothy Goodbody's- Our Glass

A- Deep clear red with a thick frothy head. Good lacing down the glass.
S- Dried fruits like raisin and cherry come through. Carmelized malt, tea leaves, and licorice as well are noted.
T- Sweet earthy tea hops balanced with a grainy caramel malt body.
M- Sweet and slightly boozyin the body, dry oily bitter finish.

Overall- Potent for a 6% abv. Decent at best, good for sipping. I won't revisit though.

Pours copper/amber with a thin, lasting off-white head. Some broken rings of lacing stick.

The smell is of caramel/grain with some tea-leaf and vague fruitiness.

The taste is of sweet malt - grainy, a bit caramelish, nutty. Bitterness is very subtle. Sweet - could use more balance.

The body is a bit shallow. Pretty slick with a covering sweetness on the palate.

Nothing particularly unique here - a pretty standard English ale - I don't know about an ESB - more like an English Pale with a bit more alcohol. Not bad for one - easy enough to drink, though I wonder how much the slickness (and alcohol fairly well-covered) attributes to that. Pleasant enough to get through a bottle easily enough.

This beer poured a cloudy/hazy brown with no head. The smell is mostly of malt. The taste is malty with some notes of caramel. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied. Overall, this is a very smooth and easy to drink beer – would make a nice session choice. As a side noted, it appears that others have noticed large heads on this brew, so I’ll look for it again – perhaps it was just my bottle.

Pours a medium chestnut brown with a thick tan head that maintains. Thick lacing on the glass.

Aroma is slightly biscuity and floral with a mild fruitiness.

Tastes like it smells,biscuity upfront followed by a floral hoppiness and fruitiness. A stern bitter bite hits midway through and rides to the finish. There is a slight metallic taste at the finish that tends to linger.

Medium body, creamy texture.

Was quite a tasty beer up until the metallic finish. That put a damper on the flavor,overall enjoyment, and drinkability. I'd maybe revisit this one if I knew that the sample was fresh.

With a sloppy pour creating a huge head with tiny bubbles, that lasts a ong time nicely carbonated. It has a brownish copper color, with a nice off white head color. Smells of floral, fruitiness, some grassy and a hint of bread. Flavors come with a highly caramel essences, that is not what the aroma suggests. Yeasty with hop, peppery and a good solid bitterness. With its medium body, a fine ESB for sitting and enjoying.

A 25oz bottle with a neat label. It was a dark amber color with a thick white head that retained well. Some nice lacing. It had a sweet, fruity (but nondescript) aroma. A malt taste up front, with a little fruit and then some hops. A comfortable beer, quite enjoyable.
