Bottle to Pint
12oz
Thanks to my co-worker Kathleen for this one
App- A fairly sparkly looking orange with some good bubble activity. I used a friends pint glass, so not sure if right glass or not, but best I had. Small 1/2" head that fell to nothing. A couple dots of cling.
Smell- A light bit of an small malty orange. A little bit of a spice note and maybe just a touch of bitter. A light IPA or a small pale ale really.
Taste- This was pretty tasty. I liked it better than the Detroit brewing one. Had more pop and flavor vs just a small malt backbone with a little citrus. Nice balance and a good fast drinker. An easy thirst quencher.
Mouth- A little bit of a lighter medium body with a fairly light medium carbonation. A good amount of malt on the back with a touch of citrus and a bit grainular.
Drink- Better than the 1st Altbier of the night, but wasnt anything wowing. Solid offering and quaffable.

Poured into an imperial pint glass. Color was a rich golden amber with a plain 1 finger white head. head lasted ~five minutes before leaving a few lacings on the glass. Aroma was slighty sweet and fruity, but also had notes of acid and yeast. Taste started out fruity with a hint of citrus, before shifting to a yeasty hop flavor. A slightly sour and yeasty flavor lingered in the mouth after sipping. Felt ok, maybe a bit overly bubbly. Overall not bad, but came across a bit strange towards the end of each sip.

Nice pour with a deep straw color and foamy cap that sticks heavily to walls of the glass. The smell which is most prominent is the citrus aroma with a slightly grassy note or two. Taste is a bit above average with a slightly malty taste and some grape-fruity citrus bite to it. Mouthfeel is a medium feel with a good carbonation level to it. Nice lacing down sides of glass. Like it alot but not top of the style very decent beer.

A: Pale golden straw pour with a huge fluffy white head that lasts forever. Great lacing too.
S: Very floral hops with some herbal quality as well.
T: Grapefruit and herbal hops, bready malt backing it up.
M: Medium, high carbonation.
O: Decent but nothing amazing.

A: Clear gold color, big frothy head. Nice lacing.
S: Orange, citrus, sweet, tart - lemon meringue. Smells like dessert.
T: bitter, lemon, orange, grapefruit.
M: Lots of bubbly carbonation that really helps to bring the flavors out.
O: This is really an exceptional pale ale. I'm especially a fan of the subtle, delicious nose, which really adds a lot to the complexity of the flavor.

A pint at Old Chicago in Southgate, Michigan.
This beer appears a clear pale golden colour, with one finger of soapy white head, which leaves some streaky lace as it duly wisps away. It smells of faint grainy malt, and floral, leafy hops. The taste doesn't waver much, with some edgy cereal grain, and bitter grassy, earthy hops. The carbonation is moderate, the body light, but not thin, and fairly smooth. It finishes crisp, and fairly clean, a somewhat metallic hoppiness lingering.
Nothing fancy, just an adequate accompaniment to pseudo-deepdish pizza and Detroit Lions eyeballin'.

Poured a hazy golden yellow with about one finger of head. After dissipating a substantial amount of lacing was left on the sides of the glass.
The smell is of very herbal hops and some malty sweetness.
The taste is also herbal with some sweetness; however, its a little bland compared to other pale ales I have had before.
It has a lighter mouthfeel that drinks pretty easily.
Overall, Detroit Pale Ale is a good beer, if nothing special.
I do really like the label with the Detroit skyline on in.

Bottled dated June 2011 poured into a shaker pint.
A: Pours a slightly opaque golden yellow with a one-finger head that fades quickly. The remnants stick around though and provide adequate lacing.
S: Smells of floral hops, a sense of grassiness, and a malty sweetness that isn't present in some of my favorite hop-forward APAs such as Alpha King or Moon Man. Smells more like SNPA, which isn't a bad thing at all. Perhaps the faintest hint of honey as well.
T: Initially the malt backbone hits your tongues, but then you get the bitterness and floral qualities of the hops. Not as floral-y or citrusy as I might like. This is a solid pale that does nothing to stand out of the pack.
M: Has a medium-light to a medium mouthfeel that feels just a touch fizzy on the tongue, suggesting perhaps just a bit more carbonation than for the style.
O: I'm really confused why BA has this listed as an altbier rather than a pale ale, especially considering that's what the brewer calls it. That out of the way, I'm just a touch disappointed that the taste doesn't live up to the inviting aroma. An all around solid offering from Atwater, but all things being equal I'm going to hunt out SNPA the next time I'm in SE Michigan rather than Detroit Pale Ale.

Appearance: Poured a nice yellow with about two inches of head which slowly dissipated. A tad of lacing remains.
Smell: Some grassy notes
Taste: Your typical English Pale ale. The malts are upfront and there isn't a ton of hops on the finish.
Feel: There is a bot of carbonation in this beer. It's not subtle like a Bass but it makes the beer more drinkable.
Overall: I'm not a huge fan of English Pales - but this is a pretty drinkable beer.
PS - This beer is listed as an altbier - if I'm wrong (I thought it was an English Pale) would some one school me in the ways of altbier. Thx!
