This is a very enjoyable Kolsch. They do a great job brewing this super summertime beer. I brought in some Kolsch glasses and we polished off quite a few with the Owner, Mark Reith.
Appearance - very clear and golden.
Smell - crisp, clean with citrus overtones
Taste - same as it smelled. Very clean
Mouthful - tangy
Drinkability - super summertime beer. Alcohol content is mid 5's so you can have a few (lol) and still walk.

I tried this, but not really that familiar with the style. About near the end of life, having been bottled in Feb, six months ago. Color seems dark for the style, a bit hazy, and fading head with somewhat extensive lacing. Smells like nothing almost, some grain I suppose but not much else. Tastes like a richer average beer, some grain, some malt, low bitterness. After-taste not much after, which I suppose is typical. Effervescence is low, muted, slick, somewhat refreshing but overall un-substantive. I wouldn't want six of these sitting in the fridge. Like I said though, not really sure I know the style.

This one looks a bit too dark to me, and the nose strikes me as straight up apple juice. The flavor is decent, I suppose. A bit too tangy sweet with a higher grain tone than I would be expecting. There is a creamy aspect to it, which makes it a bit more pleasant. Kolsch seems a style that not many American breweries can really pull together. This one is, okay. A bit too heavy, but a decently drinkable beer.

A: A very pale clear straw pour. Fluffy white head with great lacing. Decent retention.
S: Cereal grain, pear, grass and lemons.
T: Watery pale grain. A little lemony and grassy.
M: Very thin as you would expect.
O: Pretty much what you would expect from a Kolsch. Nothing special, it's pretty simple and watery.

Pours clear yellow gold with a 1 finger snow white foamy head that was full of bubbles and faded slowly, leaving great foamy lacing that sicks to the glass; a very impressive looking brew from the tap.
Smells of sweet malt, grains, floral hops, wheat, lemon zest, grass, corn or that general lager smell, which is light, airy and basically the essence of beer.
Tastes of sweet malt, floral hops, wheat, citrus hops, lemon, grass, hay, light caramel and a malty sweetness that's almost like a hint of sugar; really it's just a good basic beer.
Mouthfeel was light, crisp and refreshing, with light, zippy carbonation, a very light body and a smooth easy feel as it flows over the tongue. This is a great session beer with just enough flavor to keep wit well above it's macro competition, with a nice crisp, clean finish - take that Bud

Bottle (with no date found) poured into a pilsener glass. In honor of Bootsy Collins, I should have maybe drank from the boot. It may have contained the head on this thing.
A- F-ing gusher. The groove was not in the heart, as I lost a good 1/2 ounce on my table and felt like a fool sucking the foam from the bottle. Once in the glass it was pretty nice. Somewhere between straw and gold with some haze, a little sediment, and a ton of carbonation. The head was gigantic (is six or seven fingers a measurement?), pillowy, and white. Head retention was great and there were foamy rings left all over the glass. Aside from the initial eruption, it's a nice looking beer.
S- Pretty much a mix of grain and lemon. I'd call it delicate and a pretty good fit for the style. Nothing off-putting, and quite clean.
T- Lots of lemon and something of white grape skins. There's a gentle, grainy backbone. Maybe a little wheat in there to lighten things up and bring out a little creamy touch? The lemony, grape-like flavors really come through in the finish.
M- Soft and creamy. Moderate carbonation. Lemon makes for a bit of a pert, drying quality.
D- It's an easy drinker. No bells and whistles, but very solid all the same. I could see this being a great backyard BBQ type of beer. Maybe something to have with your basic dog at a ball game (yellow mustard only please). I think it could be a crowd pleaser.

I found a bottle of this "retired" beer in Grand Rapids in October 2010 - perhaps its back, which is a good thing. Not the best Kolsch I've had but it's enjoyable. The beer poured straw-colored and slightly clouds, producing a huge long-lasting head. The smell and taste are typical but it is a bit bright. The date on the bottle was July 2010 so perhaps we should have enjoyed it earlier.

The beer pours a hazy pale gold color with a 1/2" white head that fades to lacing. There are a few floaties present. The aroma is average. It has a dry pale malt scent along with a slight citrus edge. There is a light hop aroma as well. The taste is average as well. It has a weak and watery pale malt flavor that goes down like water and finishes a tad dry and bitter. The mouthfeel is decent. It is a low bodied beer with adequate/good carbonation. This isn't my favorite Kolsch on the market, but someone new to craft beer may enjoy it.

Poured into a pint glass.
A: Very clear, pale yellow with a bone white head that disappears quickly.
S: Not much - some grassiness maybe a little grain.
T: Watered down at best. Some faint bitterness with a bit of sweetness.
M: Thin and not well carbonated like water.
D: If you like flavorless stuff, this is easy drinking. Otherwise find something else - Recommendation to avoid.

Pale straw soaked in orange juice. Multiple bubbles zip through a fine particulate haze before plunking into the underside of a bone white cap that looks like something one might find atop a BMC lager. The foam is airy, stiff, unsticky and doesn't leave much lace.
The three words that come to mind when I put my nose over the pint glass are 'Euro', 'pale' and 'lager'. Never mind that D Light is American and is an ale (it is pale, though). Musty hops and an unpleasant off-aroma do not add up to anything worthwhile. Do these guys brew with untreated Detroit River water?
This stuff tastes like macro swill. A borderline nasty, grainy huskiness dominates the flavor profile. I'm not sure why I mentioned hops when describing the aroma because I certainly don't taste any. I'll say one thing, D Light has more flavor than most light beers. Too bad that flavor sucks.
Yeah, this is a kolsch, but it's also a 'light ale'. The calorie and carb counts are 128 and 9.2 respectively. For comparison's sake, Sam Adams Light weighs in at 124 and 9.7. The beer's mouthfeel is full-on thin with a decent amount of carbonation that, unfortunately, isn't making this experience any more pleasant.
I've now had four Atwater Block Brewing Co. beers and they've all been varying degrees of lousy. D(readful) Light is the worst one yet. By a long shot. I'm not kidding about the Detroit River water. Either the brewery has some serious quality control issues or they should taste their beer before releasing it onto an unsuspecting public.

Appearance: Light and golden color with a two finger head that quickly drops to a very tiny amount.
Smell: Citrus and grapes. Nice but sort of faint.
Taste: Again, slight citrus and grape flavors and a bit of malty flavor. Good flavor for the style but lighter than many craft beers, which may take some by surprise.
Mouthfeel: Very crisp, clean and smooth. Leaves little taste after each sip.
Drinkability: This is a beer that you could have several of. Not overpowering in any way and very refreshing. Glad I tried this while still summertime, not a winter beer. Enjoy while still warm outside. Good job here for the style.
