Wow. I can't help but wonder (based on the other good reviews) if I got a bad sixer here. Overpowering "wet penny" flavor, can't really taste anything else.

Really tasty but light on body.

First review so pardon the lack of depth; I'm a heavy coffee drinker and I consider myself a young beer fanatic, but most of my palate is acclimated to coffee. Although this sweet, crisp beer provided an ample supply of coffee flavor and a smooth and light body, I was put off a bit by the finish as the rich cocoa faded into what I can only describe as "Stale Coffee." I'm a bit of a snob, I know, but I can pick out old coffee when I taste it.
That being said this is probably my favorite "Coffee Beer" that I've tried and I won't hesitate to buy another sixer or two, but I think the coffee used tasted too much "Just like coffee" and the end result lacks complexity.

Love the label on this one. There used to be a coffee shop here in San Antonio called Ruta Maya that had a similar design scheme.
Poured into a DFH barrel pint glass, this beer is sort of a dirty brown (if that's possible) color with a light brown head. The nose is malty sweet but with a strong coffee scent. The taste is also malty sweet, with a dark cherry flavor mixed in. Nice bitter coffee notes and a dry bitter finish. Mouthfeel is slightly thin, but not necessarily inconsistent with the style.
I like this beer. It's quite tasty and extremely welcoming. Doesn't hurt to like coffee if you're going to drink this beer, but considering it says "coffee schwarzbier" on the label, you're forewarned. Nice fall or winter beer, but also nice on this 88-degree warm Texas October evening. I'll revisit this in the future. Nice work from the folks at Atwater.

Dark brown black pour with a small tan head. Very nice roasted malt and coffee aroma. Big dark roasted coffee flavor upfront. Also has a good balance of bitter espresso and dark malt with just a hint of chocolate. Medium bodied.
