2005 vintage

A - not quite opaque, hint of red flash around edges, looks to be clear, thin tan head, recedes to a ring, almost no lacing

S - deep plum, spicy yeast, vanilla oak

T - lots of plum and grape, tart fruitiness, mellow wood, spicy esters, extremely smooth flavours

M - med light, med low carbonation, overall light and airy, as opposed to creamy, very smooth alcohol, no harshness or astringency from oak barrel

D - extremely smooth oak character, tart fruitiness, well aged, very tasty

I didn't much care for the regular Pannepot, but this is a completely different beast. Tart grape/ plum reminds me of the essence of grape soda (without the cloying sugary sweet character). The oak is well integrated into the overall flavour of the beer, and just adds to the complexity instead of screaming "OAK." I'm glad I got the chance to try this, as it really is outstanding, but the price point (about $14 per 330ml bottle in Alberta) seems a tad excessive.
