2008 bottle, bought off shelf and drank in 2013.
Pours a medium nutty brown color, thick and cloudy with lots of floaties. Pretty nice white head. Belgian "pale" ale my ass.
Smells pretty quad like--very malty, nutty, yeast, bananas, hints of other fruit, booze, really a lot going on. Definitely smells like it has a few years on it.
Taste has a lot of the same but less sweet, has a slightly fruity almost vinous character. Good, but less complex than I expected.
Body very thick and rich, booze still shows a bit. Kindof a sipper but feels pretty good.

Poured on tap into an elongated tulip glass at Max's taphouse in Baltimore. Just changed the kegs and first sip.
A golden and very bronze clear body is presented on the pour with not much head given, with some golden brass like hues towards the bottom. The carbonation on this really moves in slow motion so slowly up the glass. It litteraly crawls. The colar is a faint tan color.
Nose is closed, with maybe a sense of mild classic candi like sweetness. Straightforward but not really diverse or impressive.
Palate has a slight sense of vinous feel on first sip, with a classic Belgian mixing malt in the mid palate at first. Moderate carbonation, but a sense of simple white sugar that just dominates and takes the palate over.
It's a fine simple example, but it's also kind of pedestrian. Not my ideal Belgian big pale ale (tripel or not), and it seems like de Struise could have done better.

A 330ml bottle with no visible BB date (Lot 2621080611). 2011 vintage. Purchased ages ago from a Belgian webshop. Described on the label as a blonde ale with herbs and spices, and features an image of Jesus in a santa hat.
Poured into a Duvel tulip. Bottle conditioned. A very hazy marmalade-amber colour with good carbonation. Produces a huge head of creamy white foam with excellent retention; this slowly subsides to a surface layer. Aroma of caramel malt with notes of fruity yeast esters, earthiness, sugar, mild clove, hints of spice, faint herbs and stewed hops. Slightly sweet, with a subtle warming whiff of alcohol.
Tastes of sweet caramel malt with a fruity character and a very dry finish. Notes of earthy yeast, fruity esters, sugar, mild spice, faint herbs and stewed hops. The spices seem muted and indistinct. A subtle hint of booze in the background, followed by a mild bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is velvety smooth, dry and lightly tingly, with a lovely body that envelops the tongue. Highly astringent, with an aftertaste of sweet malt, earthy yeast and faint spice/herbs.
Pretty good - a solid brew with excellent balance. Perhaps a tad too dry. The spices and herbs seem to have faded to the point where they cannot be individually discerned, but the overall flavour is pleasant. The alcohol is very well hidden, and contributes only slightly to the aroma/flavour. Not the most amazing Christmas brew in the world, but a decent, well-crafted beer. Worth sampling if you come across it.

Had this on 2013-01-07 in Bowling Green, KY. This is lot C/8/10 (from the code on the bottle)
A - Very hazy orange-brown with a 1/2-finger off-white head and mild lacing.
S - Belgian yeast funk, apricot, spice.
T - Homemade bread, fig, plum, holiday spices, orange marmalade and tart apricot. The sweetness yields to drying alcohol and moderate hop bitterness.
M - medium body and light-medium carbonation. Semi-smooth yet prickly.
O - Getting old and a bit oxidized but still enjoyable. Not as good as their Pannepot but a nice treat at a real good price of $5.99 per bottle.

Found while browsing at Fleming Place Wine & Spirits in Topeka, KS. $7 for an 11.2 oz bottle. Labeled C 8 10. Poured into a snifter. I think this might be a 2011 bottle?
Appearance: One finger of head that quickly recedes to a ring around the glass. Almost looks like dirty dishwater. Orange brown color-that makes me think of a ripened peach.
Smell: Candy and bubblegum followed by an almost white wine like smell. Spiked apple juice. Molasses like malts.
Taste: A fading holiday beer bouquet upfront (clove, anise, ginger, cinnamon). A sweet, slightly acidic wine like alcohol bite down the middle. Herbs, then a a bready finish.
Mouthfeel: Slightly acidic with a dry finish. Medium mouthfeel. Light, fizzy carbonation at the beginning.
Drink this while taking apart your Gingerbread house. I can only imagine how much spicier this would be fresh. At this point it's almost like an herbal tea. I really enjoyed the wine like character it had and the way the ABV was hidden. Probably one of the better "spiced" holiday beer I've had. But when considering the price I won't be buying this again.
