I'm sure I'll be going to bed after this one...been an active day...bottled my Scottish 80/-...gonna end it with a good brew.
This is one dark Belgian. Nearly pitch black, but shows hints of red when held to the light. Foamy upon popping the cap. Nice two-finger tall tan head on the pour. Reduced slowly, well supported by ample carbonation. Some nice stick to the glass.
Dark vinuous fruit aromas, darker than others though, raisin and prunes. Belgian yeast character comes through a little spicy and peppery. Light hints of roasted characters. Subtle alcohol rounds it out.
This is a tasty brew, no doubt. Big dark fruit characters, boozy raisins, fig, and prunes. Super dark candi sugar notes, rum like, leaves a bit of raw sugar aftertaste. Finishes with hints of chocolate and a whisp of cherries. Alcohol is noticable, but its just really smooth.
Smooth, medium bodied, doesn't finish quite as dry as some of the Trappist beers, but it isn't far behind. Slight residual sweetness. A bit of carbonation spikes the tongue.
This is a superb beer. Rich and complex, a little boozy but smooth (I know I've said that a few times, but this is a 10% beer), the way it should be. Finishes a little heavier than the Trappists, making it a little less drinkable, but the complexity makes up for it.

Pours black with a fading tan head.
Nose shows chocolate, spiced figs, prunes, caramel, burnt brown sugar, candi sugar. Lovely.
More burnt sugar as a flavours along with some roasted malt, bready malt and spices.
Could use a more syrupy body and creamier carbonation.

Completely not what I expected going in. I've had plenty of Belgian quads, but this is so much different. It has the typical raisin/plum taste and smell, but this one is so much more. There's a hint of a stout as well - coffee and dark roasted malt. Also, there's a nice oaken flavor to it. I would call this one very complex - so many different things to taste in this beer and the aroma is very complex as well. I very much like this beer.
