Tap at Macs Steele Creek. A rather thick looking black pour. Finger of light tan head. Laterally stuck to the glass.
Aroma, equal parts hops an roast. Pine and citrus zest. Malt and very light coffee.
Taste, strong anise and herbal/pine presence up front. Bitter dark chocolate malt backbone. A little coffee, more anise and pine finish. The bite lingers quite well, piney anise burps.
Not quite medium body, a bit too thick to be of the refreshing type. Carbonation was almost creamy, this coated the mouth very well. Well balanced and well done.

Bottle poured nto a Goose Island piny.
Appearance: Pretty much black. Half finger of tan head. Pretty nice retention and some mild lacing.
Aroma: Dark roast coffee malts. Citrusy and herbal hops.
Taste: Dark roasty coffee malts play with a nice subtle citrus flavor with a higher than expected bitterness at 64 IBU's. Getting a decent bitter chocolate lingering on the back end.
Mouthfeel: Smooth almost creamy medium body. Moderate carbonation. Excellent bitterness and a clean roasty finish.

Very dark, near black pour with 1/2 finger of mocha head. Not much retention. Decent, but thin, lace sheets.
Nose is a nice mix of roast malt and cascade hops. Bit of coffee and chocolate in there too.
Roast hits first, but cascade really takes over strong. Dominates the finish. Coffee and chocolate break through, but roast malt and citrus hops cover them up. Nice and fairly complex.
Feel is about right for the style. Hop resin even sneaks through the darker flavors.
The only thing that brings this down for me is that it was a very limited release and the local shops that got it charged an arm and a leg for it. Hopefully, they'll make it again at a more reasonable price point.

A - black with a huge, brown head that has great retention
S - citrus, faint roasted malt
T - coffee, roasted malts, spicy and herbal hop character
M - medium bodied, smooth, well carbonated
This is a great blend of dark roasted malts and big hop character. It has impressive balance and yet each flavor has its time to shine. I could drink a lot of this.

A - Very black, good head, but with light lacing
S - roasty with some herbal hops
T - nice herbal hops that don't linger, chocolate, roasty and smoky, light coffee
M - medium body with light hops and good carbonation, maybe a tad thin to me for style
O - A good beer but over priced... Good to try, but about it when it comes to black ipas... There are so many much better for the money out there.

A - Very dark, nearly black in color with a thick head initially, which tapers into a consistent half-inch head.
S - Smells like an IPA, rich in hops, but followed additionally by malts and a hint of chocolate.
T - Follows the scent, mostly. Moderate bitterness, roasted malts, and light chocolate. Tastes like it should for the most part -- think a combination between porter and IPA, and that's pretty much what you get.
M - Sticky, moderate thickness mouth feel with moderate carbonation.
O - A unique beer experience, and for that alone I consider it worth trying. An enjoyable beer overall. I'd like to see them make this a mainstay for them, instead of a limited release.

64 IBU
Dark, nearly black color topped with a nice, sticky tan head. Spotty lace. Roasted malt, coffee, and fruity hops in the aroma with a touch of yeast. Sweet roast, resin, juicy citrus, light esters, and a sturdy bitterness. Medium bodied, slightly oily mouthfeel with prickly carbonation.
Solid...not terribly hoppy, but tasty enough to have a couple.
