Served from a cask
A pours a caramelly red with just a touch of khaki head. No lacing. Head dissipates almost immediately.
S boozey, whisky, spicey, cinnamon, berries.
T very smooth. Orange peel, elderberry, woody, bourbon, caramel. A nice mix of wood and whiskey that doesn't overpower, but adds to the complexity.
M full bodied. Very soft on the palate, from the cask conditiining no doubt.
D very easy to drink.
Overall a really nice beer for xmas in July. The flavors of the barrel aging blends nicely instead of overpowering. The softness of the cask adds to its drinkability.

On cask in a tulip at the Smokehouse on 2/28/11
This critter was aged in Woodford Reserve barrels.
Dense, hazy copper. Thin head with a collar of retention. No lacing.
Sweet bourbon aroma with woodiness, some char and a nip of vanilla. Toasted spiced bread. Some cinnamon and maybe ginger. Wow, tastes really sweet with bourbon but not at all hot. Rather charred. Some sticky fruit notes. Not much spice. More vanilla than in the nose. Totally under control, heat-wise. Medium body; sticky and dense. Super low carbonation; really smooth. Candied finish with a touch of barrel.
Overall impression: the barreling is actually done really well, but the base beer is just ok. Really good, but sweet. I'm glad it isn't overly spiced.
