This store's selection is *very* deceiving if you go by their website. Click on the beers section and you really don't see all that much and you'd think that they have a very small aznd common inventory of beer. I checked the beer.org site and they had a link to this store to Otter Creek's Russian Imperial Stout! I didn't have a clue. Anywho, I placed my order and they responded quickly with a we're going to wait on shipping until the weather stabalizes. I waited for quite a while and sent an email saying it was ok to ship. Well...the weather turned nasty and the Fedex page said the box was on the truck for 2 days but now it is here. Bottom line, the box arived safely(well packed!) and I'm about to open one of them puppies. I can thoroughly recommend them for online purchases; they just need to make it easier to find the *good stuff* ;^) Good prices as well on the brew I bought at $7.45 a 22oz bomber. More User Reviews: PaulMPap ( Oak Ridge, New Jersey )A / 4.5quality: 4.5 | service: 4.5 | selection: 4.5 - $$ rDev: -0.7%Out of all the places I've been to in Morris County, the only other place that probably beats this is Oak Tree Buy Rite. Quite some distance from eachother and Liquor Outlet being closer to my house and all it's great. The store itself is a decent size with a wide variety of beer/wine. The wall to the left is where all the goodies are though. With 6 shelves of singles and a full isle long you can find a good amount of stuff. They carry almost everything you can get in the area. They have some local brew and other imports and nationwide brew. The coolers go along the whole back wall and are always stocked and the floor is always stocked with cases. It's almost rare to see this place run out of an item. The back is a huge warehouse that holds a lot of beer aswell. The staff there is always nice and can help you. Being delivering beer, this place has the top selection in northern NJ by far. Give it a look for sure. Reviewed on: 11-03-2009 22:59:25
infi ( Rockland, New York )A+ / 4.7quality: 4.5 | service: 4 | selection: 5 - $$ rDev: +3.6%About a 20-30 minute drive from the suburbs of New York. Walk in and immediately are faced with wine products towards the front and right sides. Take a left towards the leftmost side wall and you'll find the Gourmet Beer aisle full of shelves of domestic and international brews, all found in either sixers, 4-packs, bombers, 750mL's, individuals and growlers, with the BMC cases on your right. There are also some kegs of specific beers found on the top shelves. The shelves are separated by country and are all easily accessible. Also, there was much convenience for each beer with their respective price tags. Each price tag had a hop meter with its IBU range, which was very informative for someone who's looking to try something new. Each country's section has a very nice selection of brews for you to ponder and look at. Great quality, although there were some old outliers to take note of. Just be a bit conscious when shopping for individual bottles, especially the imports. The service was mostly self-serve. They'll give you as much time as you want without interrupting your blank stares. It must be a regular sighting there. However, if you do need help, you could just ask and someone would be able to help you immediately. Even the signs say so, like one along the lines of: "If you can't find something particular, please ask us!" Great to know that they value their customers. They also have shopping carts for the days that you decide to go on a spending spree and can't hold multiple bottles at once. Very convenient. The selection is very deserving of a 5. Each country and region is greatly and generously represented. There are a ton of the US beers, with breweries of numerous states. The gems that I've found that I couldn't necessarily get here in my local were of Founders, Weyerbacher, Bruery and North Coast. Germany had a lot of their hefeweizens, dunkelweizens and dopplebocks. Canada surprised me with the Peche Mortel, which has been a highly sought after beer for me. Denmark had a good amount of Mikkeller, of which I picked up their Beer Geek Breakfast. The United Kingdom were also there with Samuel Smith, BrewDog, Wells & Youngs and Fullers. And the Belgian section was immense with its pale ales, dubbels, tripels, quads, krieks, and lambics. They've got two bottles of Cantillon - the Iris and Grand Cru - if you're ever looking for that. And finally, they've got around 6-7 freezer doors full of individual bottles, six-, four- and value packs, BMC, and malt liquors. Much convenience for one's who are on the go and immediately want something chilled for immediate enjoyment. Overall, such a great store. Large and spatious in aisle size for a decent amount of viewing customers. I enjoyed the experience that this place had and would definitely consider coming back for more, not just for beer but also for their wine and hard liquors. Make sure you've got enough time for you to look around or do your homework before coming here, because it's an adventure in itself. Definitely worth recommending and stopping in. r0nyn ( New York )A+ / 4.75quality: 4.5 | service: 4.5 | selection: 5 - $$ rDev: +4.6%Decided to take a road trip out to this place based on BA Beerfly reviews, so I dragged fellow BA infi along with me. Boonton is kind of in the middle of nowhere, but it wasn't too hard to get to, right off of I-287. A little out of the way for me, but I couldn't let it go unvisited. And boy am I glad I didn't. Floorspace is dominated by BMC stuff for the most part, with wines and spirits occupying the right half of the store. On the left-hand side of the store is where the treasure lies. Demarcated by a sign that says 'Gourmet Beers', a long row of craft brews stretches from the front of the store to the back. Domestic sixer and four-packs are up front, followed by a plethora of 750ml bottles more American stuff. The lineup was rather impressive, with offerings ranging from Rogue's to Weyerbacher, Troegs, Southern Tier, Founders and much more. After that came the foreign stuff, specifically German, English, Canadian and Belgian beers. Usual suspects included Weihenstephaner, Samuel Smith's, Unibroue and St Bernardus to name just a few. Suffice to say that the selection was absolutely out of this world. Definitely the most diverse lineup I've ever laid eyes on. They've got quite a few BA Top-100 offerings that have been hard to find around the NY/NJ area, so that was a major plus. There's also a row of coolers in the back that held some of the craft beers behind the first few doors, but as you moved along, it quickly turned into adjunct dross. Most things I checked the date on were within reasonable freshness, but there were a couple that were a bit older than I would have liked. Still, nothing to raise a huge stink over. Prices were fair and reasonable, for the most part. A little cheaper than what I'm used to from my locals around here, but nothing super exciting. Everything is conveniently labeled, so there's no having to guess how much something is. There's also some handy information on the tags, such as the glassware recommended for the specific beer as well as the IBU rating, which was great for me, since I tend to stay away from the bitter stuff. The staff was friendly and personable, which is always a good thing for a beer store. The cashier even gave me a 10% discount since we had such a big beer haul (14 bottles or something), which was more than welcome. Didn't get a chance to pick their brains on certain beers since I was in a hurry, but I know I'll be coming back, so I can just save that for next time. Definitely one of the best beer retailers I've ever been to. Amazing selection, fair prices, friendly staff...honestly, what more could you want in a beer store? Reviewed on: 09-18-2009 04:37:51
nyrangerfan ( Morristown, New Jersey )A+ / 4.75quality: 4.5 | service: 4.5 | selection: 5 - $$ rDev: +4.6%Liquor Outlet Wine Cellars in Boonton is VERY easy to get to as it's just off route 287 and you can get back on just as easily. It has a GREAT selection of beers. The entire left wall is all shelving of warm beer starting with the 6-packs on the left, moving to bombers in the middle and ending with foreign/Belgian stuff on the right (though I don't pay much attention to the right side). Moving to the back of the store is all the refrigerators with TONS of cold 6 packs and some bombers. In the middle between the left shelves and back fridges are pallets and pallets of cases of more beer. They have many beers from the major breweries including: DFH, Stone, Southern Tier, Weyerbacher, Brooklyn, Bear Republic, Green Flash, Victory, Troegs, Founders, Sierra, Allagash, Flying Dog, The Bruery, Rogue, etc, etc... Every time I've been there, I was always asked if I needed help and everyone was always very friendly. The prices are standard for the area which means they're good. They also have everything well labeled with tags that include details about each beer. If you're within 30 minutes of this place, DEFINITELY take the trip as you won't be disappointed. They have a TON of beer, and it probably only takes up 25% of the entire store, so they obviously have a TON of wine and spirits also. Reviewed on: 09-10-2009 02:27:38
njmoons ( Wayne, New Jersey )A / 4.5quality: 4.5 | service: 4.5 | selection: 4.5 - $$$ rDev: -0.7%Ended up here based on other BA reviews, and I am glad I stopped. They have a commitment to beer that I have not seen elsewhere. It started when I walked in the door. They had a sales rep from Erie Brewing, I had fun asking a few questions. Then I headed for the Wall of 750's oversize bottles, and Bombers. Had fun picking a few new beers to sample. And by the way, the people that worked there were very pleasent, and helpful. I had 2 people ask if I had any questions in when in the store, and at check out they were quick and friendly. Prices were slightly higher than average, but not enough to discourage me from shopping there in the future. I will stop by whenever I am in the area. Reviewed on: 08-22-2009 06:48:49
donniecuffs ( Mountain Lakes, New Jersey )A+ / 4.9quality: 5 | service: 4 | selection: 5 - $$ rDev: +7.6%When you pull up in the parking lot and behold the size of the building, you'll probably anticipate a varied selection, and when you finally enter, you won't be disappointed. Not only do they have a varied geographic selection, both domestic and foreign, but they also have a healthy number already refrigerated. Furthermore, their selection of 22oz bottles, occupying an entire aisle, is very impressive, and since this store has developed somewhat of a strong beer reputation, the resultant sales turnover allows the store to constantly re-stock fresh beer, so quality is fantastic. I only have three constructive criticisms: 1. to have a slightly more robust foreign beer selection; 2. to carry ALL nj breweries (e.g. 4 out of 5 isn't bad, but to not carry Ramstein is a disgrace); and 3. to lean on their distributors to get higher limited release beer allotments, as the sales turnover certainly warrants it. cid71 ( Denville, New Jersey )A+ / 4.7quality: 4.5 | service: 4 | selection: 5 - $$ rDev: +3.6%Ive been to about 10 liquor stores in the Morris County area and these guys have the best selection. They have the largest refrigerated area and their selection of singles is unmatched. They have a number of hard to find singles a number of them foreign. Foreign beers often dont have bottled dates so its hard to figure out how long theyve been there but they have them. I often check out beer websites trying to find various craft brands and these guys are repeatedly listed. Store is a good size so beer is laid out well and stuff isnt crammed in and crowded like in a lot of other smaller places. Reviewed on: 05-19-2009 03:20:42
Yetiman420 ( Cincinnati, Ohio )A / 4.4quality: 4.5 | service: 3.5 | selection: 4.5 - $ rDev: -3%I was in Jersey on business and had some time in the morning to bounce around to a couple of beer stores in the hopes of finding some Captain Lawrence or other gems. I stayed the night in Parsippany and this place and El Dorado were an easy one-two punch (don't waste your time with El Dorado - see review). I picked up a Black Ops and a Captain Lawrence American Tripple. They had a large selection of the beers you'll find at any of the better beer stores in the area. Worth the stop if it's within reach for you. Reviewed on: 03-15-2009 02:12:07
BirdFlu ( Montclair, New Jersey )A / 4.35quality: 4.5 | service: 3 | selection: 4.5 - $$ rDev: -4.1%Though not somewhere I make a point to frequent weekly, I try and stop in here once a month or so.. The selection is definitely great, though not too different than the selection at wine and bev depot in Totowa or Gary's in Madison. You can find stuff from pretty much everyone, though I've never found anything that was rare really. Ive never talked to any employees there who seemed to know anything about beer. The beer wall can take up a good half hour of your time trying to make decisions, so don't bring your significant other lest you want them to get impatient. It's definitely a great spot and if you are in the area stop in. Reviewed on: 02-14-2009 17:34:30
