Quality: Everything seems well cared for and I'm very happy with the quality of what I've tasted.
Service: Outstanding, Rick treated me too well, holding stock for me to pick up, and making excellent suggestions.
Selection: While not the largest selection I've seen, there is a remarkable lack of crap. Everything he had was top shelf, fresh, and many things new to our market and hard to get.
Highly recommended. You may want to bring a jacket so you can hang out in the beer cave. Prices seem a touch high, but worth it for the quality, selection and rarity.

Stopped by on my way to the Saucer couple Wednesday's back. Selection is above average, and certainly the best I've seen in the immediate area. A bit of a drive for me, but the offer to obtain special requests is certainly something that may make the drive worthwhile in the future. Have to give them one dig, though....asked for the BA discount, which Rick told my checkout guy was 10%...but I got the impression the guy checking me out thought it was all a big joke....since when I checked my receipt in the car, he hadn't applied the discount. Oh well...
UPDATE (6/07) : Stopped back by this past weekend, and found a couple of beers that I haven't seen anywhere else. No problems with the discount this time. Will definately be back.

Made the drive from Grapevine on a long lunch break and the trip was well worth it. Got a great deal on some Great Divide brews (which seems to be sort of making a name for this place), but the overall experience was very pleasurable. Met the owner, he's a really nice guy, seems very commited to bringing good beer to the area. In discussing a few special requests, I actually felt like he was personally interested, rather than just taking an order. That's a rare thing in industry. The selection wasn't overwelmingly large, but, as some other reviewers have noted, well chosen. There was plenty of good choices as opposed to some larger supermarket types who have lots of choices, but only a few good ones.
I could easily see myself making this trip again. We need more places like this in the metroplex.

Lone Star Beverages is located in a typical strip mall in Carrollton. In fact, from the outside the place looks no different than any number of beer/wine stores in the area. However, Lone Star has much more than the usual suspects.
Having said that, I've been to places with a better selection. However, the beer at Lone Star is quality. Plus, you can always request anything that is available from the distributor and they will get it for.
The vast majority of the beer is refrigerated, either in coolers or the "beer cave," a refrigerated walk-in cooler that contains the best beer in the place. I walked in wearing shorts and a t-shirt and I got cold very quickly. I just didn't want to leave before I checked out every interesting bottle.
What sets Lone Star apart from other stores I've been to is the service. I headed for the beer cave as soon as I walked in. There were several customers checking out or picking up beer from the evil macro section so the place wasn't empty. I wasn't in the beer cave a couple of minutes before Rick, the owner. popped his head in to ask is I needed any help. That initiated a nice beer conversation.
Needless to say I was very impressed with Lone Star. It has everything I could want as well as an owner that loves beer and is friendly towards beer lovers. That's reason enough to come back in my book.

a store of decadence in the north dallas area that is summed up in a walk in cooler of about 100 beers. selection is reasonable. clerk was all on the chimay blue recommendation. big on selling. interesting and somewhat random selection. some hammers. lips of faith series.... but for 17 bucks a pop. some de proef which surprised me. random west coast rarities. but very inconsistent. don't go here for german or english beer. terrible. mr. g's is a start. or central market. basically i had a friend pick up beer for me there once near closing time and they tried to up sell her past the 12 o'clock cut off then kicked her out without any beer. greedy place. not thoughtful about beer period. on a national scale of selection... like swiss cheese. palate mentality to make the dough. go once to get your fill... if you live in dallas go once a season.

Rick and the rest of the staff at Lone Star Beverage are very helpful. This store has a nice selection of beer and wine, with a walk-in cooler for the craft beer. It doesn't have the largest selection in the Metroplex, but they do stock most of the beers we get and occasionally gets beers before any other store.
One complaint is that there are no prices on the beer, so you have to take them to the register to find out how much something costs. The prices are also a little higher than some stores, but nothing outrageous.
I don't get over to this store too often but if you are in this part of the Metroplex, Lone Star Beverage is a good place to shop.

Great new beer and wine store in Carrollton at corner of Josey and Frankford right next to the CVS. They have only been open a couple months but they are rapidly adding new micros and crafts each week as the demand picks. The owners Rick and Sam are willing to order any beer they can get if they don't have it in stock already. The main coolers are for the macros and the usual micros. The Beer Cave is for the good stuff (and some macro overflow). They started out with one rack full of good stuff and have added 3 more in the past month or so. Carrollton was dry until a few years ago so they are the best store in the area. The service is excellent and they are currently offering a 10% discount if you mention BA. Even without the discount, they usually have better prices than most. Highly recommend and also advise that you keep checking back as they add. Also, don't be afraid to request something. They'll usually get it in a few days for you.

Very nice store with a good selection. What sets this shop apart was the service. Rick was incredibly helpful when I was there. In fact, 2 bombers were spirited from my hands to the front counter while I was shopping. Maybe it was to free up more space for additional purchases but it was very nice anyway. The selection can't compare to box stores, there just isn't the space for it, but the quality is great. There are excellent examples of just about any style and they do offer a limited mix your own sixer.
Definitely a great spot to shop and chat beer.

A moderate selection with a few new finds every time I go (which has been once every few months, as it's not close to me). Some beers I've seen only at Lone Star. This may be because the beer guy told me he fights for his share of limited releases, and this Lone Star gets their fair share. Anyways, I always look forward to stepping into the beer cave and seeing what I find. The selection in general constitutes the classic crafts, some nice imports, and good bit chunk of locals.
Everything's in a cooler, and everything is kept clean and maintained. The beer cave is even kind of dark, which is nice.
Great service. The beer guy goes out of his way to help me and direct me to new beers he's gotten in that I might like. I like the beer guy. He's knowledgeable and nice.
As far as value goes, I've never been disappointed. I usually drop $50-60 when I stop in, and sometimes that's only an armfull of bottles (sometimes it's a boxfull).

I was coming to the DFW area on business and posted on here asking for recommendations for a local place to check out a selection of brews. The guys sent an email to me saying I should stop by and see what they had. Nice selection however I could get the majority back home but the service was first rate!!! They had a few limited distro brews in the back that they made available to me as well. Real hospitality here and much appreciated. I would come back again when in town to see if I could throw them some business. Check em out if ur in town!
