Dark orange colored and with a bit of haze, Leafer Madness sits in my tulip sporting a frothy white one inch cap. Tiny streams of carbonation are spotted surfacing the hazy liquid. Smell is like candied citric hops with a touch of pine. The malty backbone is apparent in the enticing bouquet. Flavors of tangerine/orange citrusy hops greet one upon sipping, all wrapped very nicely in a pale/crystal biscutiy malt backbone. A little touch of peppery spiciness adds to the zip. Nice use of aroma and flavoring hops here, and the bittering ones are held in check just a bit; but are still significant enough to linger noticeably upon repeated sips. The high ABV is deliciously hidden, and this damn near approaches sessionable. Nice and creamy mouthfeel; medium/full and amply carbonated with grainy textures. This is one great beer put out by this small eastern Oregon brewery, and whatever stylistic category you want to lump it in, it's a must try for craft beer enthusiasts - especially if you appreciate your hops! Kudos to Beer Valley Brewing.

On tap at Congregation Ale House in Azusa, CA.
Pours a hazy orange with a foamy beige head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus fruit, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that smells much better than it tastes in my opinion.

This beer will take great care of you. With a bitter note mixed with big time flavor, this beer will send you to places you wish planes flew. Under no circumstances should you attempt to try this beer if you are unprepared for the intense hops and aromatic floral flavor you are about to enjoy.

Amber in color. One finger of white head poured into a tulip.
The aroma was all malt. Sweet, sweet malt with a touch of spicey hops. Seemed old.
The taste was a malt bomb with hops that seem angry and bitter. Sweetness is a little cloying on the finish. Booziness is noticeable.
Mouthfeel is prickly and finishes dry.
I could not finish this beer. Double IPAs are my favorite style but this one was a train wreck. I imagine it might be old but you never know. I have no tolerance for brewers who don't date their bottles, I will no longer give them the benefit of the doubt. This beer was a complete mess and I feel robbed.

Appearance is nothing out of the ordinary. Smell is most excellent - really strong pine and citrus. Taste was a little overly bitter. I realize it's an IIPA, but this one was just a little overdone. Not as tasteful of a play between the fruits, malts and hops. Still good. Alcohol is also noticeable. Beer Valley means business with their generous hopping and this style is obviously well-suited for that. Not a favorite, but a good option with a great nose.

A- Poured into a pint glass, almost a 2 finger head, took a minute or two for the head to reduce. Decent sticky lacing. The first thing I noticed was TONS of sediment! Hazy copper toned in color.
S- The scent was very light, almost like you have to catch the smoke from the bottle as soon as you open it to get a deep aroma. Once I poured the smell was faint almost immediately. Grassy, Hoppy, Citrusy (grapefruit), and a prominent pine touch to it.
T- You are immediately hit by the hops (in a good way), good pine taste sits on your palate, and you are left with a lingering grassy/citrus taste... This ale has a nice strong finish to it. A slight note of alcohol is also present in the finish. I been indulging more in stouts and porters lately, but this was a very refreshing change of pace again.
MF- Light-Medium Syrup feel, good body. Just by looking at the sediment I was expecting a thicker brew. Light-Medium carbonation also.
O- It's a nice IIPA. Depending on your budget, I wouldn't "break the bank," for this... But if you see a good deal on a good beer such as this, it is worth a try! Hell, I haven't touched an IPA in a few months so it was definitely a nice change in taste. Worth a try ;)
