Hopsession is my first Super Pale Ale. I am not sure what is suppose to be super. Is it super pale? Or is it a super beer all around. Well, let's find out. The beer pours a deep yellow color with a very ambitious cap of foam. This is one of the more heady pale ales that I've had. The aroma is dominated by the pine and citrus characteristics of west-coast hops. The citrus is more toward lemon than grapefruit in this case. Very carbonated on the palate. It begins with a kiss of caramel malt before it leads into an expansion of hops, again citrus and pine. The hops provide a nice balance to malt. A solid foundation sets up a pleasant experience. This beer is quite tasty and definitely sessionable. I am not sure it quite clears the bar of being absolutely super, but it certainly approaches it.

Look out! Foam bomb incoming! Pours a messy foamy mess, that's for sure, and looks like a dark yellow ale...sheets of lacing. Smells like an ale, maybe hinting at hops, but balanced overall on the malts. Taste is bready, then hops, and then dry....a super scrubbing fizz bomb this is too! Ultra scrubbing, calculus chewing carbonation..the highest I've had in some time, nothing tame here. Mouthfeel is dry and slightly watery, but creamy at the middle and end, and not really too watery. I'd drink a few more of these. Good!

Thanks to eawolff99 for this one. Served in a Half Acre pint glass. There's a date code but I'm not sure entirely what it means: 15/21/217/12/16:53/8. I'm guessing it's the 217th day of 2012, so August 4th?
A - White foam settles to a thick cap and a few splotches of lace. Transparent golden body with a few stray bubbles.
S - Nice mix of grapefruit citrus and spicy herbs, hint of tropical fruits, and a fairly neutral bread crust malt backbone. Surprisingly hoppy for a beer that is closing in on 3 months old - guessing this was refrigerated?
T - Taste is also heavy on the grapefruit, with some floral and piney notes. There's a hint of doughy malts in the periphery, before yielding to moderate bitterness that surprises for a 4.2% beer. A tad astringent, but not offensively so.
M - Body is on the lighter side of medium, with a super dry finish and tons of residual hop oils and resins. Drinks bigger than the listed 4.2% although it's still a tad watery.
D - Pretty nifty stuff here. Tons of hop flavor, even with a few months of age. The hop bill is a little old school compared to something like Fluffer, but this is a pretty solid Session IPA. I could easily have a few of these in an evening, and it's superior to the low-ABV offerings available locally, except for maybe Callow Knife.
