A- Black, next to no light comes through. No Head.

S- Malt, sweet roast with that sweet malt. Coffee, very sweet coffee scent.

T-Follow nose in malt forward. Roasted malt. Starts super sweet, becomes very sweet, roasted malt yet balance with bitter coffee after.

M- Medium bodied. Very balanced. All I am getting is roasted malt here with a touch of coffee. Delicious.

O- Definitely a lighter style of stout. Hits every point of a sweeter style stout. With milky overtones yet musty. Cheers.

12oz bottle with no date

Very dark burgundy color, with a tall mocha head. Smell is wet grain, toffee, caramel malts. There is also an odd, almost fruity smell in there i can't put my finger on. Taste is sweet, with a slightly bitter, roasted coffee-like finish. Milky light-medium feel with little carbonation.

Nice easy drinking stout.

a really drinkable stout, combining the best elements of a milk stout and an oatmeal stout. the pour is the darkest brown, with no light able to pass through, and a few fingers of off white bubbles that slowly fade to a thin film. the nose is definitely sweet from the lactose sugars, but also bitter from the dark roasted malts. I pick up a little vanilla and a touch of dark chocolate too. the flavor roasted barley heavy, dark and bitter without as much sweetness as the nose suggests until the very end. this is a hearty warming cold weather beer, with a velvety smooth texture from the oatmeal and a fuller soft body. there is a little chocolate flavor in the finish, enough to counteract the bitterness. an elegant stout that would be extremely well suited t the nitro tap. my first beer from brau brothers, looking forward to my next. this is very well done.

This poured out as a deep black color with a thin yellowish head on top. It faded really quickly, leaving hardly any retention and definitely no lacing. The smell of the beer is a little on the strange side... not really appealing to me, there are some subtle chocolate and roasted aromas but there is something else in there I'm not really caring for. The taste of the beer is a little harsh and burnt right away but as the beer warms up it becomes a little more chocolaty and creamy. The mouthfeel is lighter than I expected, decent carbonation also. Overall this beer was ok, but not something I need to have again. Glad I got to have it though.

This dark creamy stout (oatmeal milk stout...as the label says) is a dark rich pour. It had a small tan head that didn't last long, but nice lacings remained. The smokey dark coffee taste was intense and in my opinion, the oatmeal prevents the bitter aftertaste that usually accompanies these stouts. I would buy it again.

Also, nice label. We love it when breweries take the time and effort to market with am imaginative and informative label.

Appearance: Completely opaque black with a one finger soapy tan head.

Aroma: Exactly what you'd expect for the style. Dark roasted malts, some sweetness, milk chocolate, and a hint of light coffee.

Taste: Given its modest 5.8% ABV, Moo Joos has a decent amount of flavor. Roasted malts with hints of chocolate and bitter coffee. It's a little harsh on the palate because all the flavors seem very separate from each other like there are gaps in the taste. There is also an odd 'dust'-like flavor to it right before the finish (which ruins it for me). Some lingering coffee bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Just above thin in body with moderate carbonation. Average to slightly below average drinkability. Missing some of the smoothness I was expecting given the description.

Final Thoughts: I'm can appreciate a good low ABV stout. However, I have trouble truly enjoying an unbalanced one. It's a valiant effort, and one that some may like, but I just can't say I'm pleased with this one. Would I drink it again? No, but I would try an imperial version.

Moo Joos pours a black color with a small head. There is a strong smokey coffee aroma, with small hints of cholate malts mixed in. The taste is smokey and has a strong malty backbone, with strong coffee flavors. Good full flavor, nice dry felling. Overall A very good bold strong milk stout.

Thanks to bunkrock (Reddit) for this one.

Creamy black almost 1 finger head fades at a med pace with decent lacing, pretty much pitch black beer.

Nose has some creamy lactose, light milk choc, but of bakers choc, light oats, rich dark malts with a hint of roast and caramel like malts.

Taste starts with a hint of a tinny metallic acrid char from roasted malts. Then quickly into creamy lactose and milk chocolate, more like chocolate milk, some oats, light roast, light caramel, fairly rich and creamy though. Just a touch of earthy light hops in there with mild bitterness. Finish is drier but mouth coating richness and creamy, light roast and creamy chocolate milk lingering.

Mouth is med to fuller bodied but not really as thick as I thought it would be, decent carb, fairly creamy.

Overall decent, quite creamy and nice lactose and oats, light chocolate, not chalky which is nice, but just a bit of acrid char.

Pours a nearly black body beneath the creamy, mocha head which dissolves to leave a sticky dense lacing clinging to the glass.

Aromas of roasted oats and barley float from the glass with milky notes and more toasted malt.

The flavor is also well roasted with oats and barley with a lactic flavor mid palate and a hint of milk chocolate in the finish.

Medium to fuller in body with a slightly chewy finish and medium carbonation.

A nice milk stout both roasted and a touch bittersweet in the finish and just all around tasty.

Served in a pint glass from a 12 oz bottle.

It appears almost black with a fingers width of a light brown head. The lacing lingered as I enjoyed my pint.

A light sweet coffee and smoky chocolate aroma.

It tastes like sweet coffee and is very easy drinking. It finishes with some smokiness that lingers for a little while.

It has a medium body with a an almost creamy texture which makes for easy drinking.

A flavorful version of an Oatmeal Milk Stout which I enjoyed.

Beer Scene open mouth snifter

A: Wholly carbonation! Big hiss and fully snifter full of fluffy medium tan colored head. Fizzy, marshmallow appearance. Pours a really deep brown color. Not completely thick and black.

S: Definitely getting that lactose sugar sweetness on the nose even through the head. Milk chocolate. Never used it before but anise is there. Minimal roast and/or coffee.

T: First thing I notice, prickly carbonation. Getting some light roast coffee. Some milk chocolate. Sweet lactose sugar. I thought I would get more smoothness from the oats. Finish is quite dry.

M: Medium bodied. Thin actually.

O: B- it's ok.

A - pitch black, finger of mocha head, dissipated to a few random islands, some random lacing
S - big chocolate and coffee notes with some grain and burnt qualities, very rich
T - huge smoky roasty flavour, followed by some light syrup, brown sugar oatmeal, finishes with coffee and cocoa, all rich flavours
M - heavy and lowish carbonation, a bit of a cocoa chalky feel, musty, finishes full
O - this is a stout through and through, the smoky woody flavour appeals to me but maybe not for everyone

A - Pours pitch black with a dark ruby red hue on the edges, thumb of mocha head with decent retention and no real lacing.

S - Sweet cocoa and milk chocolate notes and espresso notes that linger.

T - The cocoa and milk chocolate notes dominate, the lactose adds a sweetness that counters the bitter coffee notes making for a balanced ale. The chocolate and espresso notes linger on the palette alongside a hint leafy greens.

M - A thinner bodied ale that goes down smooth and finishes sticky and wet.

O - A tasty milk stout that offers up a solid balance between sweetness and bitterness. Well worth a try and a delicious treat indeed.

Produced 1.5 finger tan, dense head. The beer color is an ultra dark brown. Not translucent. Some lacing.
The aroma of oatmeal, coffee, and dark chocolate.
The taste is similar, but with a slight sweetness. Heavy mouth-feel, and low carbonation.
I really liked this one, and it goes down good.

Pours black with a dark tan head which recedes quickly. There is a small amount of carbonation from what I can tell.
Very strong aromas grab my attention. I smell sweet chocolate and coffee, there is also a hint of fruit which I cannot place.
It's sweet and fruity and I can also taste the chocolate and coffee.
The mouthfeel is the best part of this beer. It is silky smooth, much more so than any other beer that I have ever had. Again, I did not notice a lot of carbonation but it doesn't feel flat at all.
This is a quality beer. It's interesting to me because it smells strongly of chocolate and coffe but tastes more fruity. The feel is superb and I'd love to have this again.

Pours black with about one finger of khaki head that retreats after not too long. Nice lacing down the glass. Typical roasted malts come through on the smell, coffee and a smoky note are most prominent. Definite sweetness to the aroma with some dark fruit presence. Taste has a bitter twang up front quickly extinguished by a dark fruit sweetness faintly reminiscent of cola. Bitterness flashes again on the finish and lingers in the aftertaste with a smoky and faint chocolate note. Mouthfeel is pleasant, medium body for a stout with light carbonation and the classic mount coating oatmeal slickness.

For my first venture into the milk stout style this was enjoyable. The sweetness was restrained just enough to find balance, any more would approach cloyingly sweet. Overall a good beer and the third I've enjoyed from these folks.

String of numbers printed towards bottom of bottle. No other info. (5.8% ABV)

A - An aggressive pour glugs into the pint with force, filling it with a pitch black beer that rests, viscous-looking, after some short-lived cascading. The tall mocha head drops slowly, caking the pint in dense Swiss cheese-like lacing.

S - Undertones of lactose sweetness and oats do their best to soften the hard, astringent aroma of Moo Joos. Gritty, biting roasted bitterness attacks the senses with force, passively suggesting coffee and chocolate as the full bodied aroma finishes with hints of dark fruit. It's got a basement-type of smell stemming from old, old wood and dirt, though.

T - Upon the first sip I find myself cautious to say it's less aggressive than the aroma and a little sweeter, and my caution pays off. Within moments, this beer turns harshly bitter, biting with astringent roast that could rival any Russian imperial stout. Sweet lactose and soft oats continue their perilous quest to soften and smooth the roasted malt bill, but there's pleasure found within the complex undertones of chocolate, coffee, and dark fruit. It doesn't seem to venture far enough into the dirty wood basement thing the aroma does though.

M - Moo Joos is gritty and full bodied; almost cloyingly aggressive with it's heavily roasted, astringent bitterness. The oats provide a slick, smooth texture while lactose sweetens the flavor and feel for a roundness that's nice; if it wasn't there, I'd almost call it undrinkable. While full, the beer never becomes syrupy or throat-coating which is also an attribute which keeps this on the somewhat enjoyable side.

O - I pegged Moo Joos to be a good breakfast beer, but even as a heavily roasted black coffee lover, I find this beer, at the risk of beating a dead horse, over the top on astringent roasted bitterness. There are some really nice things going on in this beer; the undertones of coffee, chocolate, dark fruit esters, and even the oats and lactose but, these things are all overshadowed too greatly to elevate the beer to something really enjoyable. I'd knock the roasted malt back a bit and get some more caramel notes in there, personally.

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, Moo Joos is black in the glass with just the faintest crimson red border to it when held to the light. The head is mocha in color, very big and looks like you could bounce a quarter off of it. The nose is rather subdued, bits of burnt chocolate are all that is discernable. The taste has a bit more to it, although the burnt chocolate does take center stage; not as sweet as some oatmeal milk stouts I've had before nor as creamy. Mouthfeel is medium in body and pretty flat for a oatmeal milk stout. Overall, not a bad tasting beer but not impressive either.

A- pours black with a half finger dark tan head, which fades quickly. Eh.

S- not much aroma...a little bit of milky sugar, and thats it

T- a little bit of sweetness, some slight roast...interesting combination for a milk stout, but it's good

M- body is much thicker than most milk stouts I've had

O- it's an interesting beer, but it's a little *too* sweet fresh...mellows nicely with a few months on it

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours clear fairly pitch black color with a 1 finger fairly dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Some decent spotty lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of dark chocolate, roasted malt, milk, cream, toast, oats, and light coffee. Pretty nice aromas with good strength and balance. I can honestly say this is the first stout I have had that has a true milk aroma component. Taste of chocolate, roasted malt, cream, toast, oats, caramel, and light coffee. Slight roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, roasted malt, cream, and oats on the finish for a short bit. Quite dry on the finish. Good balance of flavors, but it is a bit on the bland side of things as far as robustness. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied; with a fairly creamy and slick mouthfeel as expected. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a very slight warming after the finish. Overall this is a good milk stout. A little bland, but has nice balanced flavors; and is certainly enjoyable.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Nonic Imperial Pint.

Appearance: Brown-black with nice dark tan head and slight lacing.

Smell: Heavy roast, with milk chocolate, cream, coffee and oats.

Taste: Tastes very much like a creamy mochachino. Despite the sweet, chocolatey core, the finish has enough coffee, sharp roast and English hoppiness to keep it surprisingly balanced.

Feel: Unbelievably smooth. Wow. Carbonation is kept in check and the finish is somewhat dry.

Overall: This is an incredibly smooth, balanced Stout. I really like Brau Brothers new lineup.

Appearance: Pours an opaque dark brown bordering on black. There is a small layer of tan head that fades to a very thin ring around the edge of the glass.

Smell: A touch of sweetness with some dark chocolate an roasty. Not a very strong smell.

Taste: More assertive than the smell. Creamy roast and dark chocolate are the dominant flavors. There is a coffee note in here as well. The finish is roasty and slightly bitter.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with smooth yet tingly carbonation and a slightly dry finish.

Overall: This is a pretty good milk stout. Not quite as smooth as I would have liked, but I enjoyed it just the same.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Opaque seal brown liquid rests beneath a highly active mass of foam which disappears before I even have a chance to evaluate its color. Minimal lacing; poor retention.

Light roast barley, chicory, and a hint of dusty graininess from the oats. Low caramel aromatics are hinted at as well.

Light lactic tartness melds with a gentle roast malt core. Mid palate I taste berries, cherries, and raisins. A sweet vanilla/white chocolate mixture comes out in the finish which is sweeter than you'd expect from the palate entry though not overly-so. Hints of spice and marshmallow are thrown in for good measure.

Medium-light-bodied, and a touch thin with low carbonation...though it "tastes" creamy per the addition of lactose sugar and oats.

A simple but tasty breakfast beer - a good example of a style well suited to the Mid-West.

Pours a light tan head. Color is dark brown nearing black.

Aroma: Espresso and cocoa with chocolate mixed in. Some vanilla and roast. Creamy lactose flavors.

Taste: Mimics the nose, but it is a little sweater and has more of a vanilla and caramel flavor. Nice coffee and a light roast flavor. Pleasant.

Mouthfeel: Smooth and creamy. Medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Ends with a little coffee bitterness.

Overall, a decent milk stout. Very enjoyable and a solid offering. I'd drink more.

Dark brown, plenty of light gets through around the edges, very small head on it, less than 1/8". Aroma, what the, where are the stout like qualities? Coffee, chocolate, 2 row, roasting,. . . .hello?

Taste, very bland, gritty lactose like character as if it didn't dissolve. Really reminded me of an even blander oatmeal stout with some creamer added to it, to give it that weird textured sweetness I'm pulling down. Middle of the road in almost every way, doesn't make me like or dislike it really (I guess dislike since I had my expectations up). Overall the bland and thinness of the experience were probably the greatest letdowns.

If it was any thinner, I'd think people were cutting this with like, water and nonfat milk.
