Curiosity got the best of me on this bottle...

A- Well, looks like the others, black, obviously light body

S- This is where we get disappointment relative to the other two. This just kind of smells like harsh grain alcohol at first...and some roastiness in the background...nothing really all that appealing.

T- taste is better, initially more Stout dominant, some coffee and roasted malt, but then it finishes just....awkward, you can "taste" the grain alcohol heat, but doesn't come off as a burn...its interesting, but not in a positive manner, more in a simple "how'd they do that??" but not enough to save this.

M- yeah, the thin mouthfeel just lets that weird grain alcohol in your mouth and nothing else.

O- eh, least favorite so far.

A: Poured into a snifter to a black beer topped by a dense finger of tan head which fades quickly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing.
S: Smells a little sharper than normal bourbon barrel variants on the nose. The chocolate and roasted malts are there but up front there's a definite corny note to it. Light on the vanilla, caramel and oak since these are used barrels.
T: Taste is a little sharp and corny up front before the cocoa powder and chocolate takes hold. Nice espresso and roasted malts come in strong as well. Light oak and vanilla with some hints of smoke and charred wood along with some bitter woody notes. On the swallow it's sharp again with some roasted malts, chocolate and coffee with some slight lingering oak and corn.
M: This beer is on the heaver side of medium in body but still fairly silky on the palate. Carbonation is adequate and slightly effervescent while the beer has a drying finish.
O: Overall this one is interesting. It carries a little more astringent wood than the other variants but it isn't terrible. Definitely a different animal from a third fill barrel. I could see this one being a little polarizing when it was released since it doesn't have those classic bourbon barrel notes. Worth a try and probably the one that aged the least gracefully of these.

Poured from a bomber into a snifter, the beer is jet black, with a creamy, tan head. Nose of rich cream, raw honey, milk chocolate, and hints of coffee. Flavors are heavily roasted, with a toasted grain overlay, and a backbone heavy on chocolate and coffee. Subtle vanilla highlights, with a slow warmth as you go. Very smooth, with a chocolate and coffee aftertaste, and subtle whiskey highlights that sweeten. Smooth, slow finish. Solid beer.

Standard imperial stout far, dark brown and black, beige head, although this seems to be a lighter shade of most Eclipse beers. Plenty of roast in the aroma. Not as much booze, barrel or chocolate either.

Taste boozier, body comes off thinner (even though it isn't). A little bit of caramel. Vanilla comes later as it warms. Smooths as it warms too, impressive, but for the increased heat on average.

22oz bottle poured into a snifter.

(A)- Pours thick and pitch black, Minimal tan froth

(S)- A deep aroma of cocoa and raisin with hints of oakiness. Ever so slight chalkiness.

(T)- Quite similar to the smell with plenty of raisin and cocoa. Lots of molasses and caramel too. Subtle oak and vanilla.

(M)- A mellow carbonation level. Big and rich with plenty of sweet flavors.

(O)- One of the sweeter versions in the barrel variants for me. Almost seems thicker too. They are just too expensive

22 oz bottle poured into a snifter. Pours black with 1 finger of tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, and oak. Medium body with a nice velvety texture. Flavor is a slightly sweeter version of the base beer with predominantly roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, coffee with subtle whiskey and oak.
