Before the octopus-like tentacles of the Liquor Depot / Liquor Barn bought out the independent that operated here this location was THE store in Calgary. It was tiny but carried every new beer to Calgary just because it was new and the owner appreciated the search for and enjoyment of new beers, new stories and new sources/destinations. Unfortunately the location drew numerous bids and selling out became an unstoppable force. Now it is just one of similar pricey locations in a large chain. Cool on a business level. Sad for a beer lover.

For a smallish neighbourhood store, this is a diamond in the rough.
There's usually a good selection of locally-made (Alberta and B.C.) craft beers and other widely-distributed Canadian craft beers: Wild Rose, Alley Kat, Tree, McAuslan, Brick, Fort Garry. There used to be a wide selection of Unibroue 750 mL bottles, but lately it seems to have shrunk to Maudite, Blanche de Chambly, Fin du Monde and a few dusty bottles of Quelque Chose and Edition 2004. (I had thought of leaving out the Edition 2004 for selfish reasons, but my conscience got the better of me.)
The cramped walk-in cooler also holds a good range of import six-packs and four-packs of nitro cans. Most of the big-brand usual suspects are represented: Guinness, DAB, Warsteiner, Smithwick's, Kronenbourg, Bass, Harp etc.
What I like most about this store, however, is a wide selection of imported singles: many Trappist/abbey beers such as Achel, Gouden Carolus, Rochefort 6 (no 8 or 10 lately), Chimay; TONS of Germans Hacker Pschorr, Aventinus, Paulaner just to name a few; and a good selection of Fuller's and Samuel Smith beers from the U.K.
What you won't get from this store is a lot of beer savvy from the staff. I picked up a bomber of Lagunitas recently and got the tiresome "Yeah, American beer isn't very good" crack from the clerk. It's typical of their knowledge level though SOMEONE there must know about beer to order such a good selection.
If you know what you're looking for and not relying on anyone for recommendations, this is an OK place to pick up a good range of beers.
