look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.5
Presentation: 12 oz narrow necked brown bottle, no freshness date.
Appearance: Beautiful and bright clarity donning a tarnish copper hue, head retention is flawless leaving more on the glass than not.
Smell: Big rounded caramel aroma with a small side of diacetyl, hint of hop leaning towards floral.
Taste: Flexed medium body showing its malt strength, carbonation holds things together. Very light smokiness within, malt sweetness is prevalent throwing around caramel and light honey flavours. Rounded hop twang throughout, balancing bitterness with some mildly herbal flavour. Finish is on the sweet side but not without traces of residual hop and a growing graininess.
Notes: Well balanced and quite drinkable, does not rock the boat yet play well with mixing malt and hop flavours. This would pair well with a smoked turkey sandwich on sour-dough bread.

This is a new experience for me. I can't say I've had much Scottish Ale (other than the standard nitro Belhaven can), but after St. Andrews, I'm sure I'll have more. This is a cloudy copper beer with decent head retention. The smell is wonderful - a sweet, flowery honey. The flavor is all about malt, which seems par for course with the style. There's more of a slight tartness than any discernible hop flavor. Honey and malt are predominant. Add some carbonation to that, and you've got a delicious beer. If this were in a nitro can, I'd pass. In the big brown bottle, you can't go wrong, as long as you like the style. I sure do.

A - pours a deep copper color, 2 fingers of head, good retention a little over carbonated.
S - caramel, light notes of diacetyl, and skunkiness. Beer fermented too cold and did not ship well.
T - see smell, but with light to moderate notes of Scottish esters.
M - malt dominated with some light hoppiness. Light to moderate mouthfeel.
D - do not think I could finish a pint myself. Little disappointed that this beer has sullied the good name of belhaven.

A - bubbly clear bronze, tall fluffy head held its own for a good while
S - mix of butterscotch and light peat, come sourness and a touch of earthy hops
T - buttery toffee and toasty maltiness dominates, woody and lightly smoky flavours, touch of leafy greens
M - light body with a light smoky and sour feel, finishes light and a little dry
O - an awesome scotch ale, it has all the requisite characteristics in moderation without being aggressive, very easy drinking, and above all a great tribute to a place I must visit some day
