Love this place! Great selection of locals and west coast beers, nice bottle list, too!
Both bartenders were attentive and knew the beer pretty well. it was slamming on a Saturday night, so we didn't expect to get into any long conversations, but they kept our glasses full and answered all of our questions.
Nice beer list. We had:
Monk's Flemish Sour (on tap!)
Russian River Dead Green Leaf English Ale
Moonlight Death & Taxes Black Lager
Green Flash Trippel
Dupont Saison (btl)
AleSmith Wee Heavy
We saw over a dozen local beers on tap and damn near no swill, only PBR.
This place is kind of out of the way. We got the impression of a neighborhod pub with locals that like good beer. It's very encouraging to see that.

Awesome beer bar. Solid amount of quality taps, and a fairly extensive bottle list. Great food, I ordered while it was really busy and they asked for a phone number, 20 minutes later I got a text saying my food was ready. The atmosphere is great, lots of beautiful beer logos and the roof is filled with taps. Also I think it's on the second Saturday of every month they have a brewery come in and its 3 dollars for that breweries beer while they cook up a lot of FREE food. So if your in the area you owe it to yourself to check this place out.

Absolutely love Hamilton's. A long time ago the location was called Sparky's and offered nothing but BMC beer, so we only went there for the foosball and Pool tables. I had to drive up to O'Briens or the Liars Club for good beer back in those days. Now, it is the best beer bar I know of, and is only blocks away from my home. Hamilton's 28 taps are always filled with a mouth-watering selection of brews and I love their special events with great cask ales flowing from their 2 beer engines. They also serve awesome burgers and other good eats. It gets crowded sometimes, which really sucks, but during off-peak times the bartenders are very cool and knowledgeable.

So many different ways to explain this place!
Atmosphere - I hear a lot of people liken this to an english pub. The ceiling is lined with old (and in a lot of cases resued by the bar time and time again) tap handles and lights. There are great booths/tables/ and adequate bar space. Gone is the funny football game, but now there are 2 pool tables and they have shuffleboard. Packed on weekend nights and football nights, but go on a monday night (after football!) or a thursday and you will be very happy.
Quality - They have very clean tap lines, great systems on all of them, and take very good care of ensuring you get beer the way it was meant to be served by the brewers.
Service - I am a regular now and always get amazing service, and now have a lot of friendships outside of the bar with the employees. Beyond that, everyone does know their stuff and will be happy to let you taste anything and give you good reccomendations.
Selection - Phenomenal selection of constantly rotating taps from very diverse places. I have had everything from cantillon to hard to find local beers. Many brewery centric events take place here, like every 2nd saturday its usually a brewery tap takeover with lots of free food. A lot of keep the glass nights with cheap refills (had a pliny one last week!) Bottle selection is also great, extremely varied, and they usually have specials on 10 or so bottles.
Food - Their cafe is so yummy, they have a ton of vegan/vegetarian options that are cooked on a separate grill, but also a ton of meat options. They have a few different hop sausages, tons of seriously delicious burgers. And they have about 6 different grilled cheese options that are SO good!
All in all, this place is so comfortable to walk in to, and you know every time you walk in you are going to try some new beers and hopefully make a few friends!

One of the first quality beer bars I've been to, and I keep coming back! It lies suburbs in what looks like a quiet suburb, with a few surrounding business.
The selection and menu are fantastic, but it does tend to get a little crowded, especially on the weekends, and not a lot of space.
As a bonus, the jukebox is worth a look, with a lot of selections from classics to staff picks.

I heard about this place through this site and decided to try it out. Had dinner nearby (Hamilton's doesn't serve food) and convinced my wife and friends to stop by this place for a beer. It was a Friday night, and there were many guys/gals hanging around outside smoking, which we didn't like. Upon entering, it was wall-to-wall people (mostly 21-30) and VERY LOUD rock music. Seating was very limited. I had to wait a few minutes at the bar to be served, which suited me fine since I had to decide from ~20 draft beers. I selected a local IIPA and tried to enjoy it while ducking pool players and trying to converse over the VERY LOUD music with my party. My wife kinda gave me the bum's rush, this wasn't her kind of place, but I still enjoyed the IIPA. I'd like to return there sometime when the place isn't overrun with young punks. Next time I'll check out the bottle list, which I hear is extensive.

Can't believe I haven't been to this place sooner (I love 1 block from Wit's End so I don't stray too far).
Loc is great- totally tucked away. You go in and it's seedy and dark. Not as seedy as Liar's Club used to be at Mission Beach (Aaaahhh the glory days... sigh)
So althought I was certain the quiet, forlorn dodger fan with his hobo jacket and "I'm gonna rape your face" glare, was going to do just that, I marveled at their selection between bottle and tap; a whole string of rarities.
What's probably most impressive were the advertisements for their special events! A boner-inspiring line-up of cask beers, aged beers, special releases and then some.
I love Wit's End and all, but these guys have some awesome connections dialed in.
The food doesn't even need to be good!

Hamiltons is outstanding their only flaw is that so many people know it is outstanding that it is often packed. Getting a spot to sit, the bartenders attention or a clean bathroom can be difficult.
The tap list is always impressive.
A must visit for San Diego.
