Holy beer mugs. If you are claustrophobic, probably want to skip this one. With the 2000+ mugs hanging from the ceiling and all the stuff on the wall it has a very garage sale feel to it. Beer was great, service was great. We just stopped in for a pint as we were traveling through but I would definitely go again!

Great selection, Staff was busy but still friendly
Overall a good first trip to Dark Horse, only knock was how dirty

stopped in late saturday afternoon. parking lot was filled with a good ratio of harleys to cars/trucks. the dark horse complex (bar, outdoor concert space/beer garden, company store, tattoo shop) is convenient to marshall - not "in" the city, but this place doesn't fit in a city, if you know what i mean. i hate to say this, but i actually questioned if we should head on in. . . .it has that rough of an exterior/impression. drank a couple of pints: plead the 5th and raspberry ale. really well done. enjoyed the beautiful weather in the outdoor beer garden. great mix of patrons & i must say, i really enjoyed our time here. service is a bit gruff, but i think that is part of the charm.

Have been to Dark Horse about six times now and I swear every time I'm more impressed. If you're going to Michigan for whatever reason stopping in is a must. Food is great, mostly pizzas and sandwiches and they don't hold back on spice. Food is also very reasonably priced. Beer selection is great also I think they have 10 taps (give or take) and they always have a great selection to choose from. I'm sure if you read alot of reviews you'll hear negative comments on the staff, don't listen. They work at a friggin brewpub they're having just as much of a good time as you, don't be afraid to flag them down if you need something, you're a grown up don't act like you need someone to babysit you. Overall I've been to a couple big time brewpubs (founders, FFF) and to me this place has way more charterer than founders and the atmosphere is just as cool as FFF in its own non-metal way. So just go cuz its awesome.

Bartenders here came across as gruff, no-nonsense types. Not in a hipster sort of way, either, where eventually you’d warm up to them or they’d warm up to you. Not so much ‘small town charm’ as small town suspicion if you weren’t a regular. Not a new feeling, just not one I had expected. Certainly going solo versus visiting new places in a group or even as a pair can change your experience. Here, on my own, I just didn’t get a welcoming vibe, unfortunately.
I was told they don’t offer taster flights. Not a big deal as I’ve familiarized myself with their regular beers already but it’s still something that is nice to have as they had a number of one-offs on the board. And the beers. That’s what we’re here for after all, isn’t it? The beer makes it worth it, but again on my own I didn’t feel the interest in lingering around longer. By the way, look for the quarter on the floor.

Dark Horse Brewing was at an excellent location for me to break up a drive to Troy. I stopped in here a few times on the way up from Indianapolis and each time managed to get in 5 minutes before last call. I did not do samplers because the bar was closing down and I didn't want to make the extra work for the bartenders. Instead I got different pints each time. The beers I managed to try were to style and of very good quality.
Even though they were busy closing and cleaning the bartenders were friendly and talkative with me. The bar was loaded with locals eve on Monday nights. I managed to get into the swag shop when it was open once and they had an excellent selection of merchandise.

A: Looks like a dive from the outside. Then you walk in, still looks like a dive. However, typically a good vibe inside. They have pretty much built a compound, by adding a skate shop, tattoo shop, bike repair shop, and general store all in the same parking lot. I dig it.
Q: Dark Horse produces very high quality beer.
S: I have never really had good service here. Most of the time they are rude, and hard to track down. if the waitstaff was more passionate about the beer, this place would be world class.
S/F: Beer selection is always good. They typically have a few seasonal beers or special brews on tap. Food, pretty average for a brewery. Nothing spectacular.
O: Without a doubt worth a trip. Service sucks (at least from my own experience) but the beer and atmosphere makes up for it.

Stopped here while passing through town for a few beers and a bite to eat.
I was a little disappointed in that they only had two beers that were not their "regular" lineup. But of course the beer was tasty as I have come to expect from Dark Horse. I had pints of the Thristy Trout Porter and a Amarillo single hop IPA called "Ollirama".
We just had an appetizer - the cheesy garlic bread which was good. However - the one waitress wasn't very friendly - and it seemed to us that we got a vibe that it was because we weren't regulars or mug club members.

I popped in for a brewery tour on the way to visit my grandfather. I got there on Sunday at noon, right when they opened. I wasn't the only one arriving for the opening. The first thing I noticed was that they had five bartenders. That is a sign that they do well on Sundays. The bar was small with various shards of tile grouted into it. I ordered a R.O.D. and was off on my tour.
I liked the fact that I was the only one in the tour since they just opened. Tours do not go on a schedule that I could tell. It was ask and go when the tour guide was available. The tour was typical. The process is always the same only on larger and smaller scales. I did get to see some beers aging in barrels along the way. The best part of the tour was of course the tasting. The tour was $7 and worth every penny to get to sample barrel aged Plead the 5th. What a great beer! The others were good, but the ba Pt5th was awesome.
Once I returned from the VIP lounge I noticed that there were a couple thousand beer mugs hanging from everywhere. The mug club must be popular. The bar itself was nothing fancy. It kind of looked like a dive bar or biker bar as several iron horses had come since I left on my tour. A lot more down to earth place than some pubs.
I really enjoyed the stop and wanted to enjoy another pint but Bell's was waiting for me down the road. I would return to this place in a heartbeat. Maybe I'll get some grub next visit.

I drove out here for lunch on a weekend trip to South Bend, Indiana. It took about two hours, but it was well worth it. When I got there, the place was already hoppin'.
On your way there, you really can't miss it. There is a huge banner on the side of their barn, located just pack the train tracks. From the outside, the place just looks like a run down shanty. And from the inside, it looks like the most popular place in all of Marshall, MI. The walls and ceiling are COVERED in "mug club" mugs. It's a pretty impressive sight.
The bar area is small, but I had no problem grabbing a seat at 12:00 on a Friday. There were about a dozen beers on tap, including their regulars and some limited draft-only brews. Solid selection. I had a Smells Like Weed IPA, a Thirsty Trout Stout, and finished with a fresh Crooked Tree.
The food seems pretty legit. I had the "Oh Yeah!" (a bourbon pepper turkey sandwich with bacon, guacamole, and gorgonzola served on a ciabatta). It was awesome to say the least.
The staff was fast and friendly. The bartender even directed me to a local beer store in Marshall so I could pick up some Michigan goodies.
Highly recommended.
