12oz bottle. Pours an ominous pitch black beer topped with a chocolate colored, tight bubbled, cream head that settles to a worthy lace.
Earthy black patent malts, hints of roasted barley. Not much going on.
Silky smooth, medium to full bodied brew with a very brief oaty character about it. Sharpish twang of watery hop bitterness, prickly carbonation and roasted barley. Robust, with a somewhat Intense roasted character, smoke, burnt blackstrap molasses and chocolate edges. Light flavors of sherri, and an underlying dark fruit sweetness. Faint cola-like flavors. Dry. Lingering roasted flavors carry on for quite sometime, a bit tobacco-like, making this a bit "dirty."
Not much of an Oatmeal Stout and a bit hard to finish. A bit too robust and not as subdued or clean as one might expect. Definitely a bit oxidized, and the linger is not very appealing.

look: 3.5 | smell: 3.25 | taste: 2.75 | feel: 3 | overall: 3
Appearance:
The beer pours a dark brown and obscure beer with very little brown head.
Smell:
I get notes of coffee and roasted malt and a bit of sweet oats as well as possibly some dark chocolate.
Taste:
I get hops and a bitter taste as well as a slightly watery taste.
Mouthfeel:
Medium bodied and unusually smooth with biting carbonation.
Overall:
An okay beer and it seem to have improved based on the Alstrom Brothers' review from 2004. I probably might pick one up the next time its released.
