A: Very hazy dark copper. Pours with a good fingers worth of tight, tannish colored head that fades to a surface coating then a ring around the glass. Decent lacing.

S: When I first poured this, there was a huge nose of citrus and grapefruit. As it sat, it became more perfumed and the alcohol began to show through.

T: Sweet caramel malt. Orange. A mild bitterness. Alcohol really develops as this beer sits on the tongue.

M: Thicker side of medium with an odd balance between the syrupiness of the malt and the lightness of the alcohol.

D: Not what I was expecting, but still good. Hops are toned done quite a bit, while the alcohol is turned up. However, while the alcohol is rather prevalent, it is not distracting. IMO, the main flaw is the sweetness - I can handle the alcohol, but the sweetness is just too much.

Poured a 12 oz bottle into a tulip glass.

Appearance - pours an amber/orange color with lots of foamy, light tan colored, head. Great head retention on this brew. Also seeing some nice lacing around the glass as I continue to sip.

Smell - Hints of coriander, sweet cane sugar, along with floral and citrusy hops. Not noticing a strong ether smell from the high abv AT ALL. This beer is 12%...right? As I continue to sip on this brew, I DO begin to pick up the ether smell from the high abv, but only when i swirl the last remaining 4 oz's and really stick my nose in the glass.

Taste - Explosions of citrusy hops, caramel malt and sweet stickiness. The hops really stick to the palete up front. I actually do not taste a bitterness until several minutes after my last sip. Delicious.

Mouthfeel - Very prickly at first on the tongue, but continues to mellow out as I sip. Lots of stickiness going on as the IBU's take over. It's like a party of hops in my mouth!

Overall - Overall a great DIPA! It has the punchy hop flavor up front but does not dissapoint on the back end. This stacks up to some of the best DIPA's I've had in my life! Very well balanced with caramelly malts and sticky hops. SO well balanced in fact, that it hides the 12% abv...well done Dark Horse, You had me at Crooked...
