12oz brown bottle with a freshness date.

LOOK: Complete darkness, tight tiny bubble lacing, good stickage

SMELL: Chalky, gummy, carob, dried grass, subtle smoke, dried dark fruit, mild esters, slightly medicinal, spicy

TASTE: Smooth, roasty, bity yeast character, a little creamy, molasses taffy, medicinal herbs, balanced hoppiness, vague smoke, hint of black berries, cocoa nibs, mildly warming alcohol

Was hoping for a bit more crispness or snap, smoke is pretty hard to find and so is the "Saison" traits ... somewhat Belgian-y and that is about it. Missing the point of this beer, at the bottom of all of the Stone collab brews. Nothing bad, just does nothing for me.

12oz. bottle poured into a tulip.

(A)- Pours a pitch black color. Produced some tan froth.

(S)- A light smoky roasted raisin aroma meets some mellow cocoa and baked bread-like yeastiness.

(T)- Very similar to the smell. Overall, an up front combo of a salty smoke brine meets roasted malts and some raisin/cocoa.

(M)- A good carbonation level. The balance is good too, just a slightly too heavy smoke component that gets in the way of the rest of the beer.

(O)- An interesting take on the style. I just do not think it is completely successful. Some good things in there, but the smoke could definitely be toned down a bit while still being present instead of overpowering.
