Golden color, active carbonation,soapy white 2 finger head that laced nicely.

Floral,piney aromas, some grapefruit and orange tones.Smells like a winner.

Taste is impressive compared to other Stone ales I have had. There is an intense piney grapefruit flavor and it is tasty and easy drinking.Medium bodied and well carbonated.

Mouthfeel is slightly this for a IIPA,but does not detract from the overall quality.Nice aftertaste that lasts.

Overall a solid offering from Stone and not one that is easy to find. I highly recommend this tasty South Cali number.

Very pale amber, almost too pale in my opinion but looks aren't really important at all.

The scent of this beer is wonderful you just smell wonderfully aromatic hops as soon as the cap comes off.

Taste wise I can only describe it as a cascade of various hop flavors working in harmony.

Generally flavorful and enjoyable

Overall this beer reminded me a lot of the loose cannon Hop^3 IPA by heavy seas. If you like one of these beers you will like the other.

Thanks to rgilbert for getting me a couple of bottles of this.

Poured from a bomber.

Appearance: Nice hazy orange colored body. 2-3 fingers worth of foam, nice long lacing on the sides.

Smell: Wow, fresh zesty citrus aroma! Lemon, hops galore, breathe of fresh air, smells like squeezing fresh fruit.

Taste: Like biting into citrus fruit, major lemon rind, cross between lemon & grapefruit flavors with some good sweetness going on.

Mouthfeel: Bitter like it should be but very drinkable.

Overall: Love the idea behind this and while i might have enjoyed a bit more flavor depth, it's overall a solid brew.

A - Light and very clear bronze color. Medium-sized, tight, bubbly, smooth, creamy, white head. Good retention leaving a nice lacing.

S - Intense, sweet hop aroma. Tons of tropical and citrus fruit, including mango, pineapple, grapefruit, mandarin orange, peach and subtle lychee aroma. Subtle bready malt aroma in the background. Fairly sweet on the nose.

T - Similar to the nose. Tons of sweet, juicy hops. Sweetened grapefruit/mandarin orange along with mango, pineapple, peach juice flavor. Very subtle malt backbone provides a hint of sweetness as well. It starts out somewhat sweet; then it gets predominantly fruity but balanced; and it finishes slightly bitter with some flowery/herbal and citrus rind flavors. Linger fruit, especially citrus, flavor. Faintest whisper of pine hidden throughout.

M - Light body with slightly above average carbonation. Crisp but goes down smooth. Not very hefty or sticky at all.

D - Wonderfully balanced DIPA with the light and crisp feel of an IPA. Loads of hops that stay strong throughout. Not overly bitter; actually, somewhat sweet in a DIPA not cloying way. Very easy to drink with alcohol absolutely hidden.

Notes: Enjoy By 05/17/13. I really like the idea of a somewhat limited, very hoppy beer with a very clear date. Not something I will get all the time, but not something that will just sit around and take up space. This was well executed with the hops shining and the malt really just helping to showcase the hops. I really enjoy fruity, slightly sweet DIPAs and this hit the spot. Surprisingly light and easy to drink really paired well with the flavors. Lived up to the hype I was reading and definitely worth a try. Great treat for every now and then with no concerns about freshness.

Ipa cant get any better than this! at least not to my knowledge. this is THE BEST ipa i've ever had, stone does it again, idk what the i.b.u.s are on this one but it has to be close to 130 or more i'd guess. the aroma is heavenly, i wish i could get a car air freshener that smelled exactly like this.
the carbonation is perfect, the taste is indescribable and the after taste just leaves me craving my next gulp! the most pleasant thing about this beer is that despite the alchohol % and i.b.u. this beer is sooo BALANCED.... its unbelievable. perfectly balanced. i had the 7th batch (enjoy by 5-17-13) keep more comming to MN stone!

Batch 5.17.13

A: Pours a nice clear golden/orange color. Creamy, soapy, thick 1 inch white head with good lacing and retention.

S: Nice piney hop presence. Slightly bitter aroma, with faint citrus aroma.

T: Nice and bitter bite right away. Nice tropical flavors to counteract the bitterness. Mango and orange sweetness. Definitely juicy.

M: Medium bodied. Creamy subtle carbonation. Alcohol is detectable, but not over powering. A little heavy.

O: A good but not great offering. Tasty, but just nothing special. 1 bottle is enough for me at that price

Appearance: Pours a clear pale to medium amber with a nice, frothy head and nice retention. Lots of lacing around the glass as you drink.

Smell: Hops, hops and more hops! Definitely some notes of citrus and tropical fruits with perhaps a hint of floral. Very nicely aromatic.

Taste: Starts off very bready then rolls into the fruity sweetness. Finishes with a pleasant, hoppy bitterness that lingers on the palette.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, creamy beer with nicely balanced carbonation and crispness.

Overall: This is a solid IPA from Stone. Comes off very fresh in flavor and is very enjoyable to drink. There’s virtually no hint of the amount of booze in this brew until you start to feel it from sipping your way through the beer. Stone is one of my favorite breweries and this beer doesn’t disappoint.

Got two bottles of seventh batch (05.17.13) from Corks 'n' Kegs. Poured into a snifter.

A: transparent orange/gold color, two and half fingers of head, solid lacing.

S: Outstanding aroma. Picked up citrus hops right away, could smell tropical fruits and floral notes.

T: HOP BLAST! It jumps out to you with its hoppy and grapefruit flavor. Delivers a great combination of bitterness and sweetness. Aftertaste of bitterness remains but lightly.

M: Medium-bodied, moderate to high carbonation, slight boozy and dry finish.

O: This one reminds me of Abrasive in terms of bitterness and hoppy flavor and LOVED IT! Stone Brewing did another great job with one of their products. Arguably one of the most hop-forward beers out there.

Batch: 5.17.13

Picked up a 22oz bomber and paired it with a piece of blue cheese jalapeno cheesecake from the new Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens at Liberty Station in Point Loma.

Pours a slight amber/straw-like hue with a fluffy white head that lingers, giving way to a good amount of lacing. Distinct yeast smell right off the bat, followed up with the expected hop bomb aroma - dried grass, grapefruit rind, earthy and herbal. Taste is similar to the nose but even greater amounts of white grapefruit and black peppercorn that seamlessly lead into a sweet grainy, lightly boozy (not in a bad way) finish. On the lighter side of medium bodied (how one does this with a Double IPA clocking in at 9.4% ABV is beyond me ???). Carbonation is light, the finish is clean and smooth. Insanely well done IIPA - once again proving that Stone is the king of hoppy beers!

This was a bomber poured into a snifter.

It poured with a big frothy head that quickly dissipates. It has low retention and very little lacing. It has a bready aroma with big grapefruit notes. It tastes almost like it smells. Bready upfront and then turns to a grapefruit taste with a great finish. It has a decent body but I hoped it would be a little bigger and good carbonation that still tingles your tongue after you swallow. The fact that they hidnthe 9.5% abv makes this a great mouthfeel. This is a good beer and the one that had was from the 7th batch. It is the Enjoy By 5.17.13 and I enjoyed it on 5.11.13 so I was close to the expiration date. Good beer and I would like to try other batches.

A - Slightly hazy, beautiful coppery color. Reasonable head, nice lacing. Very little in the way of carbonation.

S - Wow! Mango, grapefruit, just plain hops. Absolutely intense. Mild sweetness and alcohol, a bit of orange.

T - Extraordinary. The bitterness doesn't overwhelm you at first; actually, my first impression is "sweet." The grapefruit dominates the other fruit flavors, maybe a little too strongly, in fact. The aftertaste is a clean, hoppy bitterness. Smooth, very easy to drink. Every taste is completely full-bodied; letting it linger in the mouth reveals a little more fruit, and an aftertaste of grapefruit or orange peel. It's almost difficult to separate the amount of citrus and fruit from normal sweetness; there's a distinct difference. My palate detects almost no presence of malts, but maybe that's just me.

M - Tiniest amount of carbonation in the mouth, barely a hint of the 9.4% ABV. Extremely smooth in the mouth, and easy to swish around and enjoy. Not exactly a gulping beer, but certainly not a dubbel or quad, either. This might be the most perfect mouthfeel I've found in a beer.

O - This is my first DIPA, so I cannot compare it to the other classics of the style. I can say that I was blown away, and I am very glad to have started with such a stalwart example. To compare it to my favorite beers for an overall ranking is difficult, as it's such a different type of beer than, say, a tripel or a lager. I have gained an immediate appreciation for the complexity of this beer, and I wouldn't hesitate to shell out the $5+ I paid for a 22oz.

Poured into a Duvel goblet (slightly more than half the bottle per pour), and paired with apples, horseradish cheddar, crackers, and salami.

This is a really great DIPA. Just finished the "Enjoy by 05/17/13. Everything I would look for in a DIPA.

Pours a slightly hazy golden color. A hard pour gives a medium sized whit frothy head with good retention and some lacing.

Great aroma of piney hops.

Taste is great as well, mostly piney hops with some floral hops. Bitterness is just right. This one ranks up there with Pliny the Elder, Blind Pig and other great DIPAs.

Mouthfeel is rich and crisp with just the right bitterness and even a soft pillowy feel.

This one is top shelf; Great offering from Stone.

My first Enjoy By. Would have liked to do a comparison between others, or even with Ruination. Fantastic aroma - poured into a pint glass, almost clear yellow in color with slight head, lacing down the glass. Quite enjoyed this (no pun intended) and am looking forward to more!

My wife-to-be suggested dinner near a wine and beer store that is normally out of the way, so this was something I picked up. I got a bottle of the 7th batch, Enjoy By 05.17.13. The pour is a translucent flat yellow with orange notes. A fluffy finger and a half of cream colored head sits on top.

Wow, the nose is an intense blend of citrus and pine. Further inspection does yield some malt in there, but the grapefruit, mandarin orange, and pine car freshener smell are very strong.

Mango starts off the fun, then grapefruit and pine step in, pineapple, mandarin oranges... this is a hoppy festival in my mouth. Swallowing gets you a little malt, then its back to the pine and grapefruit.

This beer is perfectly carbonated, medium bodied, and goes down way too easy. There is no alcohol detected, and it's very refreshing. Only lightly sticky and not as drying as expected. Very juicy.

This bomber went fast at the Big Guys, but found a few bottles hanging around out-of-the-way shops, so picked one up. I believe the best by date is 5/17/13, if I'm reading the arcane coding right. 22 oz. bottle split with my wife.

The pour is one hundred percent pureed mango; I can almost imagine the pulp hiding in the dense liquid. Nose lovely right at the pop, pure-bred tropical fruit & citrus with an underlayment of sweetness. That's good.

Enjoy by 5.17.13 succeeds in pushing hops straight up your nose; they're everywhere your palate turns. The nose leans into the taste with large-bore tropical fruits & liberal dose of citrus up front. The middle brings a low yield of grassy dankness, which isn't my thing in IPAs, but the bitter clean-up blast that follows mitigates my mouth somewhat. Bitterness sticks like pine tar. Alcohol isn't noted, & this is easy to sip. I'd buy this in a Big Gulp.

Brilliant marketing ploy aside, this is a very good IIPA, but not worth the premium price tag. Glad I tried it.

22oz. bomber bottle with a large silk screened forest green label. In the middle of the label is the head of the Stone gargoyle. The back of the bottle has the usual Stone novel. This version was from the 7th batch, 05.17.13. This beer was enjoyed on May 6th.

When poured into a Peg's Cantina Snifter, this Stone beer was a crystal clear golden apricot orange color. There's gold in this beer! On top of this golden brew was a small 1/4 of an inch cotton white head of foam. It had acceptable retention that left behind a tiny string of rings and a few spots of lace around this beer.

There's gold in the color and pine in the aroma. Right up front in the aroma was a wall of pine. It didn't smell like a Christmas tree garden. A little less than that. Waiting for the pine to pass was this aroma's fruit orchard. There were citrus fruits and even a few tropical fruits. My nose picked up on bitter grapefruit, orange, mango, lemon, and even a drop of pineapple. I'm not sure what kind of hops were in the aroma. Smelled like it was a mix of floral and citrus hops. Doesn't matter what they were. They smelled great! I couldn't pick up any malts in the aroma. I'm OK with that. It didn't need it.

If I had to describe this beer in one word, I would use the word "hoppy." Was it super duper hoppy? Just a shade under that. This beer didn't want to mess around. Right off the bat was the bitter citrus hops. These hops stick around for a while before it lets through the pine forest and fruit orchard. The fruits in the aroma had more of a variety. The taste only had bitter grapefruit, a pinch of orange peel, a drop of lemon zest, and a splash of pineapple. At the finish line was a subtle and I mean subtle taste of toasted malt.

This was a medium bodied Imperial/Double IPA that had a good level of carbonation and a full flavored hoppy aftertaste. This aftertaste had its fair share of bitter citrus hops, pine resin, bitter grapefruit, lemon zest, and some floral notes. This aftertaste was so bitter than it will cling to the roof of your mouth and on the surface of your tongue for a long time. It will take an entire lake to get rid of this aftertaste.

A very good and fresh Imperial/Double IPA from Stone. I had high hopes for this beer and it actually exceeded them. Would I drink it again? That's a stupid question! Of course I would! I hope I don't have to tell you this. Don't sit on this beer. Drink it fresh like the label says. You won't be sorry.

Just had this on tap, and it was better than I remembered.

Peachy, sunny orange with a gentle haze. Drippy lacing forms a halo around the edges of the glass. A finger of foam settles to a delicate skim with a cirrus pattern to it.

Pungent hoppy aroma, not without some pale malts bleeding through. Flavor is big on bitter citrus rind, grapefruit pith and orange zest, vague traces of cantaloupe. Smooth with a hint of pale malt or wheat. Bitter hop resin sticks to the teeth a little. Medium bodied but fairly light for a DIPA. Overall very solid and drinkable.

Pour is clear golden orange with a fairly tight white head. Nose is hop forward with a light grain malt balance. Herbal and citrus hops with a touch of sticky resin behind. Taste is a huge hop punch and quite syrupy and resinous. Sticky feel, assertive carbonation balances, tons of citrus and grapefruit. Some bitterness in the finish that lingers a bit. Overall not bad, very syrupy and hop forward.

Poured from a 22 oz bomber into an IPA glass.

A - The beer is a lighter, transparent gold.

S - tropical fruity notes, some citrus.

T - nearly full flavored sweetness up front that is followed by a bittery and resiny aftertaste. A nice dry finish. It hides the booze well for a 9.4% beer.

M - Not overly aggressive on the taste buds, but a very pleasant, drinkable double IPA with a very nice dry, bitter aftertaste.

O - Enjoy By is one of my favorite IPAs. It isn't the hop symphony that a beer like Heady Topper is, but Enjoy By really hits the hop appetite. I'm more of a bitter, dry tasting IPA guy, and Enjoy By certainly falls under this category. For me, it hits all the spots.

This offering by Stone is definitely incredibly fresh. It pours a beautiful golden yellow color onto a teku glass. The angel is fruity, lemon, musky, but also contains strong notes of onion and chive. The chive and sweet vidalia are quite strong, and carry through on the taste which is also permeated by bitter hops and slight malt.

Overall, if you like Sorachi Ace hops, you'll dig this beer. If not, you should probably pass. Personally I find it flavorful, unique and enjoyable. It is definitely different than many other stone offerings, and I'm interest to try my second bomber.

Wow this beer is fresh! Lots of grapefruit and slight tropical fruits on.the nose. Taste matches the smell alot of grapefruit comes thru with some pine followed by a slghtly spicy finsh. Body is just a little thinner then other dipas. This is what a dipa should.taste like.

Seventh Batch - 05.17.13 served in a tulip glass

Light golden orange colored beer. Nice head. Decent retention. Great lacing

Fantastic aroma! Tropical fruit and citrus hops. Pungent and resiny Very strong and pronounced hop aroma. Some sweet malt, too. This is how a double IPA is supposed to smell like!

Great flavor. So much hop character! A nice balance of hop flavor, malt flavor and bitterness. Again, tropical fruit and citrus hops. A little spicy. Really nice flavor.

Medium bodied. Carbonation and bitterness is pretty harsh on the tongue. Everlasting dry, bitter finish.

I've recently realized the importance of drinking hoppy beers when they're fresh. This is a fantastic beer. I like the idea of having an "Enjoy By" date so prominent. For a hoppy beer, anyway. Hopefully I can snag a bottle or two from the next batch.

Pours a clear gold with two finger thick dense creamy head. Thick rings down the glass. Smell: quick melon note, floral, grapefruit, pine, dried apricot, alcohol. Taste: fleeting biscuit and melon then big hop blast - pine, grapefruit peel, grassy. Oily into drying into sticky. Really good SD style DIPA. Thanks for sending this our way - probably the freshest Stone to hit FL.
