Thanks to jtd1969 for sharing this bottle. 4.1.13 enjoyed on 3.2.13

A - clear orangish gold with a big, thick, pure white head

S - huge floral aroma, some sugary notes

T - herbal, floral, light bready malt, spicy hops, bitter finish, alcohol warmth

M - clean, smooth, crisp, medium to full bodied

This was delicious. The malt is a bit sugary and sweet which blends perfectly with the intense hop character. There is such great balance here. It also has tremendous drinkability for the ABV. This is an IPA that all beer fans should try.

Ironically, I was getting ready to watch the Penguin game #2 against the Senators and was shopping for a good beer to drink at a store in Brooklyn and stumbled across this bottle. Now, I am watching the best team in hockey from my hometown and drinking best by 05/17/13 on 05/17/13. Life does not get much better than this!

Poured a golden in color w/ a big 2 finger white head that left sticky lacing on the glass. The aroma was of a massive amount of grapefruit, citrus, pine, and earthiness. The taste was big grapefruit up front, leading into medium amounts of resinous bitterness, finishing w/ vanilla mixed w/ an herbal quality.Medium bodied and somewhat dry. This, like most DIPAs was pretty drinkable.

Overall, a great DIPA from Stone! It was nice to see Stone's concern on freshness and innovation despite how large this brewery has become. This one just has a slight vanilla note on the end and the fact that it needs to finish drier that prevents it from being all-world. In the end, a well made DIPA that did not have many holes, but Stone should thank the Pittsburgh Penguins for filling the rest by winning 4-2.

Go Pens! Stanley Cup number 4 is around the corner.

Enjoy by 5/17/13, enjoyed on 5/16/13, just under the wire.

A: Absolutely gorgeous. A clear golden amber with a big, rocky white head that lingers and laces. This is the platonic pale ale, appearance-wise.

S: Even with one day to go, it smells like brewday. Citrusy and resinous. Floral, a little early.

T/M: A total hop showcase, unsurprisingly. Grapefruit and other citrus. Nicely bitter, persistent but not overwhelming. A tiny bit of alcohol. Not much malt flavor to speak of. Mouthfeel's on the thick side for the style, very low carbonation.

O: I think Enjoy By is one of the better innovations in craft beer recently. Putting a hard deadline on an IPA is brilliant.

Enjoy by 05.17.13 On-tap at the Cask Republic, New Haven, CT:

Served in a tulip glass and enjoyed on 5/15/13. The appeared a nice deep amber color with a thick, rocky white head that was really well retained. The beer gave off an intense pine hop aroma with maybe a slight hint of citrus. The taste was very good...the hops, while very very upfront were not so overpowering that I was turned off by them, as happens occasionally with some DIPAs. This might be one of the best DIPAs that I have enjoyed. The beer felt good and the beer was smooth, but drinkability does suffer given the ABV. Overall, an excellent brew.
