A- black with two finger head
S- nice hoppy scent, smokey, some coffee, very earthy
T/M- dark fruit, hoppy and smokey, great balance if you like hoppy stout. Coffee after taste stays around for a while.
O- very nice black IPA, glad i got a chance to try this during the twelve days of stone, at WOB. This blends hops coffee and smoke perfectly.

Reviewed from a couple nice pours at the Bittercreek Stone Tap Takeover on Friday!!
Expected black brew with a dark brown head.. doesn't stick around for long..
Nose is more black malt than coffee.. a little bit of bean is there, but is underwhelming.
Flavor has more coffee... decent hoppiness is there... some citrus and background pine.. but the roasty malt helps carry the beans more on the palate... could use a bit more malty sweetness to really deliver... The coffee does not really add a whole lot.
Good brew, but I had more fun with the first incarnation.

On tap for the 4th Anniversary event at Blue Palms Brewhouse in Los Angeles, CA.
Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, coffee/espresso beans, and some citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with a medium amount of roasty coffee/espresso bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp but medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a great beer with a really nice espresso presence in the aroma and taste that makes this one very easy to drink.

Very good beer. Not as bitter as i would like personally, but wonderful flavor.
Definately the best of this new 'black ipa' trend, in my opinion. And should be for $12 a bottle.
Loved it. Though it's general availability in my local area is none (WV), so i might never taste it again. Big fan of all Stone Brews. They do not make garbage.

On-tap at Strong Ale 2011
Pours nearly black in color with a khaki/tan head. A strong aroma of earthy coffee. Tons of fresh espresso/coffee notes with the roast of the beer being accentuated. There are still some tropical and citrus hop notes in the background. The flavor is similarly heavy on the coffee. Tons of espresso with an underlying flavor of citrus hops to go along with the roast. Not as much in the way of booze as the regular version has.
