A - Poured into snifter. Opaque reddish caramel color with a head of fizzy light tan head.

S - Dark malts, hops, caramel and roasted nutty aromas.

T - Dark malts, bitter hops, caramel, maple, slight soy.

M - Heavy and thick, bitter. It's a sipper.

O - I was sort of concerned when I bought this considering how long ago it was brewed, but it is still pretty good. Overall this is quite a good beer. Lots of bitter flavors and character.

A: Copper/Ruby color with a light, tan, one-finger head. Great lacing.

S: I love the floral, citrus, and oak notes here - well done. Very complex.

T: Bitter hops and sweet caramel malt start it off with a mid-section of citrus hop flavor. Finishes dry with notes of oak and hop bitterness.

M: Medium mouthfeel and a mild carbonation. Coats well.

D: Ordered this ON TAP at the Iron Abbey in Horsham, PA. The keg kicked after my pour - I truly am a Lukcy Basartd!! That said, I wanted another, but sadly they removed the tap handle. :-(

If you see this - grab it! It's definitely worthy!

to start this beer is great. all three of the bastards tried, and this might be my favorite. it pours a brownish red with a slight tan head. smell is awesome. smells of citrus, hops, and sweet fruit. great taste with fruit-like sweetness hitting the front of the tounge and hops hitting the back. balanced with a mouthfeel that is thick, but not like the double bastard. there is good carbonation, and you can feel it kind of bubble. i could drink a lot of these. but as for right now i think im gonna just enjoy this bomber.

Provided by my buddy "Ned". Pours a beautiful clear amber with a firm, pillowy head. Smell is clearly citrus with a hint of oak. Great mouthfeel and is smooth on the palate with a hoppy bitterness that lasts forever. First appearance is that of an amber ale but the depth of flavor and richness in the middle is much more complex. The higher than average ABV is hardly noticable and I finished my one and only sampling in record time.

poured from 22 oz bomber into snifter...very very excited to try this.

A - pours with a 2 finger head...slightly off-white color. nice lacing on the side of the glass as the head fades away. looks like all the other bastards--a very rich, red/ruby color. head always been a fan of how the entire series of beers looks. I am extremely excited to try this beer.
S - delicious. the most recent bastard I've drank is the double, so the smell comes off as slightly weaker than it (as to be expected). I smell some nice subtle piney hops with a ever-so-slight oak background. smells sweet...very inviting aroma but the aroma seems a little weak to me

T - Amazing. Immediate hops and sweetness (but a little subdued for a bastard), malt, wood, and then back to the sweetness and then back to the hops for the aftertaste! I like it a lot..you can definitely tell it is a blend of the bastards (although the last time I had an oaked-bastard is a long time ago...) It is a great beer but I think it fell a little short of my (extremely) high expectations

M - nothing special. good amount of carbonation. medium body. dry. not a bad mouthfeel, but nothing noteworthy...very crisp beer.

O - I enjoy this beer very much. Wondering if it will age well. It doesn't have the bite of the double bastard but I think is a step above the regular bastard. It is a great beer and well-worth seeking out. Might just have to pick up a few more.

This is one of my favorite growler fills from Stone. Dark amber color, citrusy hops, caramel malts all combine into a wonderful mix. The woody/earthy flavors remind you of its origins. Stone is genius for combining some of their most awesome beers into one.

A: Bright amber color, crystal clear, with a fingers worth of a creamy light brown head (dissipated to a lacing after a minute or so). Decent alcohol legs for only being 8.5%.

S: Huge wave of brown sugar hits you in the nose right off the bat. The Hops are definitely there but hide pretty well behind that enormous brown sugar smell. Nice faint Vanilla. Overall smells more malty than hoppy.

T: The flavor is honestly a real surprise in contrast to the aroma. Obviously very hop forward as this is a Bastard. There's a slight sweetness at the end that tastes caramelized and almost on the verge of a burnt flavor (not in a bad way).

M: Carbonation is pretty average. Mouth-feel is on the lighter side of creamy. A lingering dryness on the tongue.

O: The aroma threw me for a loop, I was actually really looking forward to tasting some of that brown sugar so when it wasn't there that was a little disappointing. Although after I got over the lack of the brown sugar I really enjoyed it. Had just the right amount of kick without feeling boozy.

A - Translucent copper-red body. Off-white head slow to build, slow to recede. Minimal carbonation apparent.

S - Big hops complemented by smooth oak. Somewhat sweet. Very impressive.

T - Oh my. Delightful hop profile. The oak rounds the flavor perfectly. Unbelievably well balanced.

M - On the lighter side of creamy. Smooth as butter.

D - Treacherous, as the ABV is well hidden and the beer is damn good. I think I just found my new favorite Stone.

Delicious. Highly recommendable.

A - dark amber color with a tan head. surprisingly clear. i thought the double bastard would cloud it a little. it looks quite pleasant.

S - fantastic sweet pleasant notes. this is where the arrogant bastard thrives. i can feel it beginning to engulf my palate through my nose.

T - a lot of taste notes from the oaked arrogant. only problem for me is the initial taste doesnt seem quite all there. but i love the piney bitterness. prolly from the double.

M - bitterness sticks but its quite pleasant. i love how long the oak stays, its quite the warm teddybear feeling.

D - surprisingly easy to drink but didnt get much of the double bastard in it.

A- pours a dark amber with a reddish/maroonish tint, a dark cream colored head that stays

s- mostly malts with a hint of hops and fruitiness

t- STRONG initial taste but after a few sips and a slight warming it becomes well balanced with lots of malts as well as the hops you expect from stone

m- sits well on the tongue with good carbonation

d- the strong taste makes it hard to drink more than a bottle in a sitting but I keep coming back: this is my third bottle

A: Pours a dark reddish amber with a large amount of head that sticks around for a while.

S: Orange zest with other interesting spicy fruits. You can certainly smell hints of the oak aged ale in here as well. Very complex and inviting.

T: Initially follows the nose with a fruity taste which subsides quickly into a slight bitterness. You can taste the oak aged arrogant bastard which is outstanding.

M: Heavy and foamy, very smooth.

O: Overall a very interesting and delicious beer. A lot more complex than arrogant bastard alone, and the oak really stands out on this one. Definitely worth picking up a bomber or two!

Appearance: Upon pouring it from the bottle into my schooner I noticed it a dark golden color pouring from the bottle, but the color in the glass was deep red upon the light. It poured a thick deep hoppy malty head that went away quickly and dissipated into beautiful lacing that remained for the entire portion of the beer.

Smell: Smells of thick hops and when inhaled deeply I can almost feel the alcohol burning my nose. It has hints of spices and malts, but reeks heavily of hops.

Taste: Upon first taste it reminded me quickly of AB. A strong bold flavor that grabs your tongue as to say, I am made to be drank and I am delicious! The alcohol is not overpowering and the hops bring out a deep full flavored ale.

Mouthfeel: I always loved the way stone ales feel in my mouth, they are thick and heavy but they never stick and make my mouth feel all salivalike

Drinkability: Well I'm halfway through my bottle and I want another. I guess that gives it an A+ for drinkability!

Pour is thick with a lingering 1/2 inch head - does the souffle thing. Scent is surprisingly malty with just a hint (barely) of oak.

Taste is more like the Bastard you expect. Haven't had the Double so I'm not sure how strong of a presence it makes. Good pine flavor, decent resin/malt backbone, oak on the aftertaste (not too strong when cold but much heavier as it warms).

Not a common feature of Stone for me but this gets better as it warms. Doesn't hold a candle to Ruination but the oak makes this better than your average Bastard. This beer loses what it gains by the oak with the idiotic label. If you get past the first paragraph without a headache you're the better man.

In my tulip, it pours a dark brown with a thin gray/white head.

The smell is boozy, but with some spice and toffee sweetness to it.

The taste is ridiculous. I've never had a beer where the balance between hops and malts was this perfect, except for arguably Old Ruffian. The hop bitterness and malty sweetness almost even out, but the hops pull through in the end, making this one of the most delicious beers I've ever had.

The medium body and smoothness make this beer very drinkable, especially for its alcohol content.

This beer is world class. Stone, please brew it again.

Appearance: Very dark brown. Head disappeared quickly and there was never much of one.

Smell: Heavy malt.

Taste: Heavy, bitter. Very slight hint of a root beer taste? Hops compliment the alcohol presence that is present.

Mouthfeel: Creamy. Low carb.

Drinkability: Not sure if I will get this one again. I wouldn't have had another one if it were in the fridge that night. Pretty much overpowered my palate and not in the best way. A good beer but not their best by a long shot.

Ordered this little number from Shipmates in Cerritos. This beer is a rare find and a real jewel in the Stone Brewing "cannon". Has a chocolate/caramel smell. Sweetness up front, bitterness at the finish. Head forms into pristine rings inside the tulip glass through progression. This is definitely my favourite offering from Stone.

Brown Sugar nose with caramel color and nice head and lacing.

Tastes extremely sweet and light with slight pepperiness from the hops, It's light on carbonation and heavy on malts.

Pour is semi-thick smooth w/light touch centerpour of pint glass. Deep Mahogany reddish brown with beige cream colored firm head retention that persists long after pour leaving lacing all down side of glass. Absolute brillant/bright clarity. A+
Smell of citrus fruit, very aromatic & invitng warmth off malts. A
Taste has a nice twang of grapefruit bitterness to balance malty body. Deceptive strenth with some warming but refrained. Oak character very subtle but there. A+
Great overall balance that lends itself to pure drinkability, a rare feat for substantial style. A+
Fits right in double imperial category, just under Barley Wine strength/mothfeel. A

The best offering I've enjoyed from Stone in years. Highly recommend & looking to stock up.

Man this beer is great! Just had it and it blew me and my friend away. This is beer is the definition of craft beer. It has so much body and so much flavor. The head on the beer is just like a arrogant basterd and I loved that! The color is a dark brown amberish color. For an American strong ale, this is top of the line! I loved this beer! 9/10

A - nice dark amber appearance, good amount of head
S - floral hops are dominant, yet there are notes bready malts
T - strong bitter hop start fades to robust malts.

The funny thing about this beer is that I enjoyed it more then the beers used in the blend.
For $6, this beer is a good buy. A complex beer to break down for really not being that interesting of a beer other then being blended. Overall, this is a Stone beer I will look forward to annually.

S - Not too obtrusive. Citrus notes arise when you really get your nose in the glass.

T - Very balanced from the beginning to the end. The citrus in the nose comes into the taste but is far more impressive than the weaker nose.

M - smooth with substance. slightly viscous feel.

A dark red/amber color with a thick whipped head, a good 1/2 inch.

The nose was very different. As the head simmered down a bit it gave off changing aromas from resinous hops to caramel, citrus to sweet heavy malts and a little pine and vanilla.

I definitely thought this beer to be a little lighter than I was expecting. The thick malts and heavy caramel/molasses gave way to the subtle and soon to be prominent fruity hops that played with the malts. Like a grapefruit with sugar.

The mouth feel was about medium with about the same in carbonation. That gave it a very creamy and coating texture with a tinge of heat. I could have used a few more bubbles.

Overall I really enjoyed it, great until the last sip. I really had to talk myself out of getting another since they did such as great job of hiding that ABV.

Pours a dark, rich brown, as you would expect from such a strong ale.

Tast is similar to the original bastard but... more so. Slightly bitterer and a little bit less sweet. Kind of tangy. I personally feel the original (while still one of my all time favorites) is a little too malty, so this refinement of the hop/malt balance is a positive change.

Mouthfeel is, as expected, off the charts. This is a really BIG beer. The alcohol warms your mouth, and the bitterness lingers deliciously at the back of the tongue.

Overall, this is a great addition to the Bastard family, and maybe my favorite of all the Bastards. I didn't know it was a blend while drinking it, but in retrospect it seems to have successfully captured the best features of all its constituent parts.

I often drink beers straight from the bottle (yes I was bottle fed as an infant), so I can't accurately portray the appearance, aroma, and true flavor of the beer. With that disclaimer out of the way and since I drank this beer straight from the bottle, this beer is ridiculously good.

If you like double IPAs, then you'll enjoy this one. It has that West coast taste: mega-hopped with a savory, lingering hop goodness. As the "lalbe" indicates, this ale contains some percentage of Oaked Arrogant Bastard. You can definitely taste those woodsy undertones.

I rate beer on drinkability, not on anything else. If I don't have the inclination to have it again, then the rating will be average to above average at best. I definately won't actively seek it out. If the beer is exceptional, I'll buy it again. That being said, this beer is exceptional. Probably the most drinkable of the Stone IPA styles.

On a Pliny the Younger scale (I'm lucky enough to live in NCAL), I give this beer a 3 1/2 Plinys out of 5. Pliny the Elder get's a 4 1/2 and the Younger gets 5.
