Poured from a 22oz bottle into a duvel glass.
A: pours brown with hints of ruby, I get a nice finger and a half of slightly tanned head that has excellent retention... Tons of nice lacing... Great looking beer.
S: hops, citrusy and piney hops, a touch of malt, not as sweet of an aroma as I expected, smells nice
T: much like the nose, pleanty of hop deliciousness, for the malts I get a bit of caramel and toffe and a light touch of oak... Very well balanced and delicious.
M: on the heavy side of moderate with a nice creamy carbonation that accents the hop bite and keeps this beer from being to syrupy... Nice lush mouthfeel with a dry bitter finish.
O: this is my favorite variation of arrogant bastard, when balanced together it is like they cancel each others negatives and strengthen the positives, a great blend of a great brew... Love it.

No point going into too much detail. You know what this beer is about.
My favorite of the bastard beers. Has the best of its three components.
Aggressive hop character of AB,
Smooth maltiness of oaked,
And straight out brashness of double.
Seriously enjoyable. Having fun picking it apart and placing where all the nuances came from.

Dark amber pour, good off white head and lacing.
Pine-like hop aroma up front, dark malty bread scent fills in the spaces.
Hoppy but smooth at first sip. Heavy malt base and some detectable wood from the Oaked blend. Hop bitterness remains stiff throughout and balances the thick malty body. As it warms lingering taste of caramel and toffee and residual hints of oak.
Smooth mouthfeel carries the thick brew along quite nicely. Finishes a bit sticky but the hops dry out the aftertaste. Sip this one slowly lest the thick malt body overwhelm you.

Poured from a 22oz bomber into a Stone pint glass.
A - Dark reddish in color, a thick 2 inch head that lasts for awhile.
S - smells extremely hoppy, malts like biscuits. you can smell the booze on this one too.
T - like the smell, extremely hoppy. spicy malts and finishes with strong booze
M - heavy. Given the booze content here, I would have preferred 12 or 16oz of this rather than a 22. But i'll take it, because it's damn good.
Overall - An interesting blend from Stone. I love all three components that make up this blend so it's no shock I love this one as well.

A: Pours a really pretty copper amber color. Almost clear. About a finger and a half of off white head. Very fluffy. Leaving sticky lacing immediately. Nicely carbonated.
S: Really awesome nose. Smells really fresh. Getting those fruity hop aromas, mango and citrus. But then those complex malts, caramel and toffee. And touches of wood and vanilla. Awesome.
T: Right on the tip of the tongue, you get that aggressive Stone hop bitterness. Strong flavors of pine mostly, but also some citrus hints. Also some grapefruit as it warms. bitter grapefruit. The. You get those sweet malt flavors. That caramel and slight vanilla toffee from the oak aging. It's actually pretty complex. Warming up brings out even more. Somewhat dry finish, leaving you wanting another sip. Best of the Bastards.
M: it's a big medium bodied. Very easy drinking.

The Lucky Bastard (Lukcy Basartd). I am employed by Total Wine & More in CA and this is an item I've been looking forward to tasting and reviewing.
Whether you buy into "The Bastard" beers' messages or not it is true that this beer is meant for a certain breed. Liking or disliking it doesn't prove if you have good taste in beer, it's a matter of if you like this style, because no other beer really tastes like a Stone Bastard.
A - The appearance is a crystal clear ruby/blood tinted dark ale color. Although appearance of a beer is one of my least important factors, this one looks outstanding.
S - The smell is not much different to the other three bastards...hoppy of course, with that slight but nice oak from the oaked arrogant. The difference comes in the malts, which dull the hops enough to make it more subtle than any of the other bastards.
T - Almost exactly as the smell. The malts that aren't as present in the other bastards make this blend the most balanced of the group. Gives the drink-ability of a lighter I.P.A. with the flavor of a true strong ale, without compromising either field.
M - Mouth-feel is smooth and silky for a strong ale. Not perfect but just about as good as it gets for a beer in this field.
Overall...
This beer is fantastic. Again, it isn't for everyone but for some like me it'll be exactly what you'd hoped for. Blending all the Stone "Bastard" family into one beer that gives you all the advantages of the 3 and remarkable balance is like a dream come true to me. If you are a Stone/Bastard fan, try one if you can.

Wasn't sure what this was until I picked it up. A blend of different bastards.
Poured a very dark brown with a lighter head than others of the Bastard species.
Nose: Hops pretty much it(on the pine side)
Taste: As usual with Stone, very hoppy. This one has a nice malty balance to it but still has a very bitter finish and after taste. I can tell there is some oak aging in here.
Mouth feel is creamy and medium carbonation. Alcohol is pretty apparent, but not that high of ABV. For some reason, I like some of the other Bastards better.

Hmm, surprised I didn't review this the last time it came out because I know I've had it before. Oh well, a buddy picked one up and shared it with me, its still good. Hoppy smell that sort of leads you on about what the flavor will be. I found the flavor to have a decent bitterness but I felt like the oaked bastard really dominated. It would be interesting to learn what the blend percentages are but I'd guess its "classified'. Alcohol was noticeable and I'm sure the double bastard was responsible. This was good but I think regular old arrogant bastard may be the best bastard.

Reviewed from notes from 11/10/12.
A- Pours a deep amber with burgundy hues and a finger and a half of off-white head that provides decent lacing.
S- Aroma of citrus, sweet caramel malts, and dark fruits. Some pine is evident as well.
T- Taste-wise I'm getting mostly sweet malts, caramel, bread, and a bit of raisin. As it warms the piney hops begin to take over. The dark fruits also come out more over time. More complex than it initially lets on. Finishes dry with a decent bitter bite.
M- Mouthfeel is medium, smooth with light carbonation.
O- Another solid ASA from Stone.

A blend of Arrogant Bastard, double bastard, and oaked arrogant bastard.
Clear chesnut hue with a thin off white head. Dark fruits, oak, vanilla, caramel and toffee, smokey, anise, earthy hops and alcohol.
Tastes very much like a cognac. Sweet dark fruits, plums and raisins, caramel, burnt sugar, toffee, up front. The oak aging from the oaked bastard comes through on the mid-palate with oak, smoke and vanilla. Finishes with an underlying earthy hop bite. Massive and complex but detectable booze throughout that stings the gums and burns the throat a touch. A little too overly complex that slaps the tongue around and confuses the taste buds. An alcohol cocktail blend of three very similiar but different beers that crashes into one mess of a big beer.

Pours a dark, rich brown, as you would expect from such a strong ale.
Tast is similar to the original bastard but... more so. Slightly bitterer and a little bit less sweet. Kind of tangy. I personally feel the original (while still one of my all time favorites) is a little too malty, so this refinement of the hop/malt balance is a positive change.
Mouthfeel is, as expected, off the charts. This is a really BIG beer. The alcohol warms your mouth, and the bitterness lingers deliciously at the back of the tongue.
Overall, this is a great addition to the Bastard family, and maybe my favorite of all the Bastards. I didn't know it was a blend while drinking it, but in retrospect it seems to have successfully captured the best features of all its constituent parts.

A: Pours a dark reddish body - almost coppery. The head is thick and fluffy and sticks around for a few minutes but remains in a quarter-shaped circle among the middle of the top layer of the brew. The lacing on the glass remains present throughout the drink.
S: Wofts a strong hoppiness, with some caramely maltiness, piney, and some underlying smells of oak.
T: Strong malty taste, finishing with loads of hops. A good amount of bitterness that lingers after swallowing. I don't get a lot of oakiness, which is somewhat disappointing, but the balance of bitterness and hops combined with malty sweetness tastes really good.
M: This is actually a much lighter bodied beer than I was expecting. I'd say medium-bodied, but I enjoy that it is pretty creamy, and it is very drinkable.
O: Very happy to have this one. It's so complex that every drink almost tastes completely different. The first few sips I didnt get any oak flavor and then it comes out as it warms a bit. It is the kind of beer that you don't realize has a high ABV because of how easily it goes down.

Poured ruby red with a big cap of sisal foam that persisted and laced up beautifully. Very attractive and inviting pour. Smell is citrus, pith, resins, caramel, currants, and toasted bread. Taste is nicely bitter across the tongue carrying resin, orange, grapefruit pith and tropical flavors transitioning into a warming toffee, bread and toasted caramel backbone. Medium-heavy body with a creamy mouthfeel. Dry finish is mildly bitter and lingering. Very enjoyable with lots of layers of malt and hop flavors.

I am one lucky bastard to find this on the shelves before its best-by date; I’ve seen the previous release, but fairly recently, so it must have been past its prime. Cheers to fresh beer, and to Stone for slapping a distinct “ENJOY BY JAN 31, 2013”on the side of the bottle – thank you.
A: An excellent color: pours a crystal-clear ruby red that shimmers in the glass. Short, bubbly head pops and fizzes for thirty seconds or so before it dissipates, leaving a negligible amount of tan retention. Wet lacing slides back slowly into the body.
S: There’s almost no nose on this one – is my nose just not very sensitive today, or is this not the pungent hopfest I expect from Stone? From what I can make out, there’s a sweet butterscotch backbone with notes of cherry and fig under a citrusy hop note of mango, kiwi, and some resins. Once I pour it into a glass with more of a tapered lip and let it warm up, I can make out more black ale roast, dark fruits, and bourbon – smells just like hookah smoke, oddly enough.
T: A single sip puts the hairs up on my arm and a warmth on my tongue – that’s a strong beer. Forward tastes of black malt, toasted bread, thick hop oils, and booze, mixing every one of the viscous tastes you can get from a strong ale. Decadently smooth, the sweets thicken every motion of the palate like it’s drenched in malt, so much that even the oily hops get a smoky, syrupy kick. Mango, strawberry, lime, and pine from those hop tastes, though with a sweet grape underpinning to remind me of that hookah character from before. Finishes mild like the nose: nothing but a bit of lemon zest and toasted grain lingers.
M: As said before, this is a smooth beer; not barleywine-thick, but it’s close. Low carbonation and lots of malt to the body.
O: This was a pretty good beer, but I would rather have any of the bastards individually. I don’t know exactly where it’s coming from, but there’s contradicting flavors between the blends and it shows. But the greatness that is Stone comes through every time, showing full, satisfying flavors throughout. I can’t complain.

A - nice dark amber appearance, good amount of head
S - floral hops are dominant, yet there are notes bready malts
T - strong bitter hop start fades to robust malts.
The funny thing about this beer is that I enjoyed it more then the beers used in the blend.
For $6, this beer is a good buy. A complex beer to break down for really not being that interesting of a beer other then being blended. Overall, this is a Stone beer I will look forward to annually.

A: The beer pours a nice dark copper body with a thick tan head that quickly fades and leaves a lot of lace on the glass.
S: I am picking up a strong amount of hops, nice sweet malt, some citrus, piney hops and a little bit of oak and booze.
T: It tastes a lot like your basic Arrogant Bastard, but with so much more going on. I am getting a lot of sweet malt with a nice hoppy bitterness that lasts on my palate for a very long time. The hops go back and forth between spicy and citrusy. Absolutely delicious and crazy beer.
M: For a beer thats so high in alcohol and such an intense flavor, it goes down so easy. It has a nice full body with a nice creamy feel as it goes down. There is also a bit of carbonation on the front of the tongue.
O: This is just a fantastic beer. I mean the flavor is just so insane that it took several sips to even get ahold of what I am drinking. Just a delicious beer and I am so happy that I got the last bottle at my local shop

22oz bottle from Sherlock's (Marietta, GA). 7.99. Best by 1/31/13. Served in a Red Brick snifter.
Pours dark crimson with one and a half finger manilla head. A good bit of lace.
Smells of robust pine and citrus hops, sweet bread and trace vanilla. Nice.
Taste is big and hoppy. Pine, mango, orange peel, biscuit, pepper and a mild note of vanilla/oak. The booze is present but well integrated.
Medium full feel with moderate carbonation. Long bittersweet finish.
A big bold hop-filled strong ale. I haven't tried the oaked version but I think I like this more than either the standard or the double. Nice blend of flavors, smells pleasant and a good feel. Well worth a try if you see it. I'd certainly drink it again.

A: Pours a clear dark ruby red. Big dense tan head on top. Head fades quite slowly. Nice lacework left behind. Good head retention.
S: Huh, interesting. Lots of strong caramel first off. Surprisingly oaky and resinous to boot. Has hints of tropical fruit floating around. Pineapple and mango I think. Some other fruit I can't quite place. Is it Kiwi?
T: Very malty, sweet caramel with some toffee and brown sugar. Some tropical fruit mixes in, just a tiny bit. Strong resin in the middle and then turns very oaky to boot, suddenly very drying. Long lingering bitter and drying aftertaste with more resinous hops mixed in.
M: Fairly syrupy and sweet. Very drying to boot.
O: What an interesting blend. I expected it to be really hoppy but it's honestly not other than the strong resinous bitterness in between sips. Up front it's very malt-forward however. Definitely strong ale category. I enjoyed it, but I think this beer is better as its individual parts, not as a sum as those parts.

1 pint 6 fl oz brown glass bottle with standard pressure cap served into a Uinta brewing pilsner glass in me gaff in low altitude Los Angeles, California. Reviewed live. Expectations are average given the brewery - whose beers I often find underwhelming. Acquired at Wally's Wine in Westwood.
Served straight from the refrigerator and allowed to warm over the course of consumption. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.
A: Pours a three finger khaki colour head of nice cream and thickness, and good retention. Body colour is a rich vibrant amber-copper. Quite appealing for the style. I'm impressed. Semitransparent. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.
Sm: Toasted malt, dry floral hops, fruit, grapefruit hop character, amber malts, and a bit of biscuit. A mild strength aroma. Not horribly evocative, but pleasant. I don't detect yeast or alcohol.
T: Dry floral hops, evoking fruit - especially grapefruit and berry. Toasted malt with a hint of cream forms the somewhat bland foundation. No real yeast comes through. I do get some oak - but not enough. It's a mess of flavours and feels rather haphazard - like a chance success at blending random flavours. There's no real focus or feeling of deliberation behind it. It's just scattershot. It's pleasant but it lacks balance or reason. Even a bit acidic on the climax. An accidental success. I can definitely tell it's a blend - and not a great one at that.
Mf: Smooth, tingly, musty, and wet. It has random moments of coarseness and dryness, matching the messiness of the flavours. It's off from what it should be.
Dr: This is quite the mess. Not at all balanced. It's enjoyable for what it is, but it's overpriced and overrated. It has good aspects, but not enough to justify purchasing it again. It does hide its ABV quite well. Another mundane offering from Stone.

Poured into a 20 oz Duvel tulip, best before 1/31/13. Poured aggressive down the center and got a huge 4 inch off white head, hangs around awhile before coating the glass with lace. Smell is citrus, carmel, pine, toffee, bready, and a hint of vanilla. Taste is very big, sweet carmel and toffee up-front, with a burst of grapefruit, citrus, and alcohol in the finish, really well done. Body is medium large, with plenty of carbonation, more lush than dry, and very approachable. This is another hoppy gem from Stone.

A-Pours a clear toasted cherry color. Brownish crimson. Head is a vibrant tan hue. Head is thick and bubbly. It leaves generous speckles of lacing.
S-Big and brawny. Obviously well-hopped. Big notes of pine. Citrus and green grass hops. A cauldron of caramel. Even a whisper of oak. This beer delivers the liquor-fueled sweetness of Double Bastard, the loud hoppiness of Arrogant Bastard and the divine oak of Oaked Bastard.
T-The slight nuance of oak really adds another layer to the violent pine hop and flowing caramel. This is defiant brew; liquid insolence! Freakish bitterness meets velvety maltiness. Then the sneaky oak sets in. Booze is not masked.
M-Bitter! Drying! Boozy! A sipper. Medium carbonation. Fuller bodied.
O/D-I personally find all three of the base beers to be excellent (I will give the nod to Oaked Arrogant Bastard as my personal favorite). This one is pretty neat, but I find that the parts are greater than the sum in this situation. Still pretty awesome, but I would probably take any of the three original Bastards over this. Still a damn good beer.

Bomber poured into a snifter
Never thought Id get the chance to try out this bastard
2012 release
A- Pours a very deep amber color. A 1.5 finger of a slightly off tan colored head. Good head retention.
S- I get a fresh piney hop up front. A bit of an herbal, garlic note. Somewhat spicy. A slight woody character. A massive and smooth malt load.
T- A moderate bitterness up front. The malts sweep over and really dominate the moth of the beer. There is a ton of toffee, a bit of caramel and a slight herbal nutty note. There is a slight wood flavor to this beer that really rounds out all the flavors. The hop presence in this beer is strong. There is a slight pine at first and a minimal amount of citrus. The hops are mostly spicy, oniony, earthy hops. Aftertaste is bitter and sticky with a nice hoppy flavor.
M- Not quite doubly bastard thick but A huge bodied brew. Also quite bitter. Getting through a bomber by yourself is going to be all you can do for the night.
O- Awesome stuff. I wouldn't want to age it at all. Its amazing how different it is from the rest of the bastard series. This is a badass bastard and im glad it was re-released.
Also, I must have read the label at least a dozen times before I realized it was spelled incorrectly.

22 oz bottle, best by Jan 31, 2013, poured into a tulip glass.
A- Pours a clear dark garnet red, topped with a finger of creamy off-white head, leaves lots of sticky lacing.
S- Big hop aromas, pine, a bit of caramel maltiness and vanilla, although the hops definitely dominate in the nose.
T- Much sweeter and more malt-forward, with a sweet caramel malt flavor that melts into bitter hoppiness that lends some pine and earthy flavors. Some oak and vanilla flavors are also noticeable. The malty sweetness and powerful bitterness are very nicely balanced.
M- Medium to full bodied, smooth carbonation, has a thick, slightly chewy feel.
O- I really liked this beer, it's damn tasty and is one of my favorite Bastards.

Bomber into my RR tulilp.
Appearance: Deep amber with a nice brownish-white head which is retained throughout drinking. Great Lacing.
Smell: Pine and citrus. Lemony grass. Some slight oak.
Taste: Grassy grapefruit and orange zest. Oaked back taste. As it warms, alcohol and toffee. Love how this one tastes. Very mellow taste.
Mouthfeel: On the heavier side of medium bodied. Almost full bodied but still drinkable. Very smooth and creamy.

A clear amber color with a thick tan colored head that laces the glass as it dies down to a thin line of large bubbles. There is a very strong aroma of fresh pine and hop. There is also a sticky, dank hop quality to the aroma. The toasted malt can just be detected in the background.
The hop flavor kicks in right away with some big pine and citrus flavors. These flavors last through to the finish. The funny thing is that the intesity of hop flavor doesn't match up with the bitterness of the beer. The bitterness doesn't really show up until the finish and doesn't pack that big of a punch. There is also a nice toasted malt sweetness to the finish and a slight wood aged flavor.
The feel is full bodied and oily. The bitterness shows up in the finish and is surprisingly mellowed for such a strongly hopped beer.
Quality stuff here from Stone. Having enjoyed each of the 3 beers that went into the making of this beer, I was looking forward to tasting this. It was not dissappointing. Good solid Strong Ale.
