This beer pours a murky orangish brown color with a thick, fluffy light tan head. the head fades ever so slowly, leaving a good lace.
This beer is dominated by a piney hop aroma. I can detect some caramel malty notes in the background. Grapefruit is also mildly present.
This beer has a piney and grapefruity flavor. Some subtle malt flavor mixes in. It has a sweet caramel flavor also.
This beer is full bodied. It is carbonated to perfection. It leaves a piney taste. The alcohol warms ever so slightly on the way down.
This beer might not make the best session beer. The alcohol content is a bit high, and although it tastes great, the aggressive flavor may become cloying after a while.
Overall: This beer is great. It is like the best of all the Bastards all mixed together.

A: Reddish mahogany hue with a thick, solid 2-inch tan-colored head and good lacing
S: So much herbal, grassy, piney, and dank hops: man, this smells amazing--though there isn't much besides those hops going on here
T: More balanced in flavors--still the explosive hop flavors are there but the bitterness is balanced by a toasty, roasted caramel malt finish
F: So creamy and sticky and oily and full bodied
O: This is a fantastic beer; another great beer from Stone

This poured dark with a ruby hue. Some yeast like speckles on the initial pour but settles down clear. Ample off white head that dwindled slowly to a nice ring and cap. Excellent retention and good legs. Nose is inviting bitter hops, grapefruit with sweet malt underneath. Oaked presence off the nose and a little pine. Hops are softer on the nose than on the palate. Slick, resiny, long finish but slightly wet with a bitter aftertaste. Body is medium heavy, a touch imbalanced, and favors the sweet aspect of the malt and citrus despite the abundance of bitterness. It’s an agreeable contradiction though at 8.5 ABV.
