One of the selections for my "make your own six-pack" from Marty's in Newton. 12 oz bottle, 8.7% ABV. Collaboration beer between Stone, Mikkeller Brewing and Alesmith.
Pale golden color, minimal lacing. Belgian sweetness with a hoppiness. Smooth mouthfeel, with a bit of hoppy sting at the end. Interesting beer, glad I had the chance to try it, but one was probably enough. Wish I had a bomber of this to get a better idea of how I feel about it.

Thanks to GRG1313 for gifting me this one.
Pours a murky dark orange with a foamy orange-bone head that settles to tiny wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of malt, honey, fruit, spice, and some oxidation aromas. Taste is much the same with fruit, honey, and oxidized flavors on the finish. There is a very mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is showing a fair amount of oxidation and is very honey forward at this point.

2008 vintage
A: Pours a hazy orange-gold with less than a finger of white head that fades into a thin ring with no lacing.
S: Some light Belgian spice notes up front followed by candy sugar and sweet orange citrus aromas. Musty graham cracker aromas follow, suggesting some oxidation.
T: Belgian spices up front with some candy sugar flavors. Faint fruit and citrus flavors follow before a strong and slightly bitter yeast flavor kicks in. The finish has some of that musty graham cracker flavor from the oxidation.
M: Medium body with lowish carbonation, this beer is a bit too thick and under-carbonated.
O: Unfortunately I do not think time has been kind to this beer, though it was fun to try.

Had a bottle of this at the Amsterdam Ale House on Manhattan's Upper West Side. Pretty good Tripel and a lot of interesting collaborators. However, based on the bottle design and printing, I suspect that Stone was more involved in the beer than the other two brewers.
Appearance was a light straw, plenty of carbonation, nice lacing and very hard to see through, in spite of its light color.
Aroma was of banana's, esthery yeast, very nice and inviting.
Flavor was good. Very dry and well balanced. Fruit, biscuit, some hops.
A very good beer. Would love to see it on draft sometime.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into my Allagash glass. It poured a pale orange amber color with a thin, bubbly head scattered across the top.
The aroma has a crisp, slightly tart fruit component to it with some notes of apple and a little grape to it. A decent amount of Belgian yeast spice is there as well as some sweeter, malty notes. Pretty decent aroma overall for the style.
The taste also shows some crisp, apple like flavors mixing with some cinnamon and clove like spices of the Belgian yeast. A little dry, tartness comes out in the finish along with a little bit of the alcohol.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied with carbonation being moderate. Overall it was a pretty good beer. The crisp fruits flavors really mixed well with the yeast spice. Pretty flavorful and nicely balanced beer overall. Not quite as good as some of Belgian's best, but pretty good.

12 ounce bottle into chalice. Released in Sept 2008, so it is over 3 years old now. Pours cloudy golden orange color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retnetion that reduces to a thin cap that lasts. Fair amount of lacing clinging to the glass as well. Aromas of big lemon, orange, clove, pepper, candi sugar, light fruits, grains, bready/spicy yeast, and alcohol esters. Nice and well balanced aromas. Taste of lemon, orange, clove, pepper, bread, candi sugar, apple, pear, herbs, and spicy yeast. Lingering notes of pepper, clove, light fruits, bread, and spice on the finish for a while. Nice balance of flavors, with no cloying at all. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy mouthfeel. Alcohol is fairly well hidden, only a warming on the finish noticed. Quite smooth to drink, but it is still a sipper. Overall this is an excellent Tripel collab, especially at over 3 years old. Glad I got to try this.

Snifter.
A: Transparent dark gold with a small white head.
S: Bake bread with notes of apple, candi sugar, and pear. Light peppery phenols.
T: Lightly spicy up front, with pepper and floral hops. Malt is bready and sweet with accompanying candi sugar. Fruit is reminiscent of apple and pear. Finishes sweet and bready with a light bitterness.
M: Medium in body with moderate carbonation.
Overall: A nice Tripel. This has held up well.

Review dated 6/9/2009. Tap at the Ginger Man in NYC.
Slightly hazy bright golden color with a white head. Aroma of pale malt, yeast, citrus, green apple, and mild hops. Flavor is more of the same with light fruits and some west coast hops on the finish. Dry, crisp palate with medium body. Excellent tripel.

12 oz capped bottle poured into a Petrus glass.
A: This beer pours a deep gold with a 1 finger head which dissipated quickly and left a thin lacing on my glass.
N: The nose had notes of lemon, spices, sweet malts/candi sugar and Belgian yeast.
T: The taste started off sweet from the malts and candi sugar, then was followed with spices like cloves and coriander and ended dry and bitter.
M: This beer had a crisp mild to medium mouthfeel with a low level of carbonation.
D&O: The drinkability was smooth and easy. Pour me another please.

Big thanks goes out to a74gent for sending me this one as an extra in a past trade! Served from bottle into a Cigar City snifter. Poured a very slightly hazy yellow-orange with a one and a half finger white head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, orange zest, earth, grass, fruit, and nutty notes. The flavor was of sweet malt, fruit, nutty, citrus hop, and wood. It had a medium feel on the palate with medium carbonation. Overall this was a pretty nice brew. I wouldn't go as far to say that it was my favorite Tripel I have ever had, but it wasn't bad either. The aroma was overwhelmed with organic and earthy notes. Almost reminded me of cutting grass back in high school to earn an extra dollar or two. The flavor was pretty good as well, but the nutty aspect just seemed a little out of place for my liking. Worth trying if you can get your hands on it.

Poured froma 120z. bottle into a Chimay challace.
The color is a hazy orange with a finger and a half of foamy white head and some slight lacing left on the glass.
The smell is a little boozy with some malty flavor that is holding me back for a bit and keeping me guessing. There is a bit of horse blanket aroma and that is making me worry that there may be some brett in here as well.
The taste is sweet and hits with a very tart citrus flavor. Some sugary character makes me pucker a bit. There is a real zing in the flavor that carries this beer all the way down with a slight touch of bitterness toward the end.
The feel of this beer is smooth with a little bite. It has a drinkable feel to it but can push away some drinkers that are not used to the sweetness.

$6.99 for a 12oz. bottle at Discount Liquor in Milwaukee
A: nice amber colored, clear beer - very little head that dissipated quickly, definitely could use more carbonation
S: mild nose, traditional tripel with yeast qualities prevalent
T: not a bad tripel, somewhat cloying but not to a detriment, alcohol noticeable in finish, good overall
M: nice, could be a bit better with more carbonation but all-in-all decent with warming alcohol and rounded Belgian-style qualities
D: good drinkability, no off flavors although combination of sweetness and EtOH doesn't make it a multiple pint beer

12oz bottle into a Duvel tulip.
A: Pours a clear orange body full of minute particulates that remain in suspension throughout; the head is just a finger of frothy white foam that displays average retention and lace. Nothing remarkable about this one.
S: Bold, intense, and sweet. Lots of brown sugar and candied fruit, backed up with a touch of clove spice. Pretty one-dimensional, but it's a hugely enjoyable dimension.
T: Toffee malt sweetness starts things off, soon joined by some fruit esters that give a distinct impression of a caramel apple. Spice and bitterness finish things off fairly cleanly, considering the strength and sweetness. Light alcohol on the aftertaste. Almost tastes like a Tripel/Barleywine hybrid, and I'm loving it.
M: Soft medium body with light carbonation. A bit more life would have been welcome.
D: Not bad at all, but not nearly on par with some other examples of the style.
Notes: Tasty beer, but pales in comparison to the St. Bernardus Tripel I had last week. I really dig its sugar & spice duality, but in the end the sweetness wins out just a bit too much. Not quite equal to the sum of its parts, but by no means a bad beer. Glad I got to try it.
Cheers!

From notes:
Pours a hazy light golden orange color with visible carbonation bubbling up and a thin foamy off-white head that slowly fades into a lasting ring. Not much in the way of lacing.
Spicy aroma with hints of pepper and coriander as well as some alcohol sweetness and sweet fruit notes. Hints of apple, pear and citrus peel. Subtle hops.
Spicy and very hop forward for the style. Prominent zesty peppery flavor that is countered and nicely balanced mid-palate by citrus peel and crisp light fruit notes, most notably orange, apple and pear. Full bodied for the style with a nice balance of bitterness, spice and estery sweetness. The bitterness from the hops is stronger here than in any tripel I've had and they linger throughout into a dry finish.
