1091st Review on BA
Draft to 4oz taster
WinterStorm 2012
App- A very murky dark caramel brown with a rich orange undertones of orange and mild yellows. A small 1/2 finger of head. Very cordial like in app.
Smell- Very malty and boozy sweet. The brandy is very upfront and a bit stinging. Smells a lot like a sweeter old guardian.
Taste- Very layered. Very unique treatment of a good base beer. Retains a lot of standard malt flavors but sweetens and thins it out a bit. More than 4-8oz of this I think would just be too much.
Mouth- A good medium body with a well paired low/medium carbonation. A bit pricky residual booze and citrus with some sweetness.
Drink- It was very unique for a six year old beer. It was smooth at points, prickly at others and pretty damn tasty.

Had on tap at the Stone Total Tap Takeover in Baltimore
A-pours a clear copper color with a thin dark tan colored head
S-light notes of oak, big time caramel and brown sugar, wet cardboard and obvious oxidtion with hints of sweet brandi in the back.
T-lots of oxidation, light notes of oak, so much sugar in this with burnt caramel and brown sugar, wet paper, the brandi comes in at the back with a fair bit of boozy heat.
M-full bodied and very thick and grainy, rough to drink with strong carbonation and a messy finish.
D-this has been oxidized and has a ton of sugar in it. very messy malt bomb.

Appearance: Dark reddish-brown body, moderately hazed, and capped with a thinnish, whitish head.
Smell: Soundly sweet-smelling nose, with luscious notes of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, and stewed dark fruits. Some brandy and a lightly spicy, underlying earthiness are detected, but mainly the nose favors the sweet components.
Taste: Big taste of caramel candy with a big, deep-seated sweetness on the inaugural sip. Toasted brown bread and simmering brown sugar. A noted warmth and taste of brandy leisurely slides in. Raisin and date fruitiness soaked in brandy. Tiny hint of vanilla. The old punchy citrus character is fairly muted here, though some earthiness remains along with just a whisper of hop bitterness. There's still plenty of that dessert-like sweetness and a bit more of the earthiness for the heated finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium-light, soft carbonation.
Drinkability: Very nice. It's a wondrous, dark voyage into sweetness and brandy that only Stone can bring you.

on tap at RnH during Tap Takeover event. review from notes.
Pours a mahogany brown with basically no head or lacing.
Bitter hops, dry malt, wood and alcohol in the nose.
Dry dark malt with caramel and bitterness in the beginning. The barrel aging smooths out some of the profile usually in Double Bastard as potent booze dashes thru. The brandy is very present with sweetness and warmth, as the beer ends hoppy and somewhat hot. Very long and lingering finish.
Plenty of lasting residual stickyness and warmth in the feel, overall a little hot, perhaps still too boozy as this took me forever to finish but I still enjoyed it.
