Someone said it best, "looks like used motor oil" lol, but don't let that deter you. The head could use a little help, but everything else is quite delightful.
As with all stone beer, you'll taste some hops, but there is something about this one that merges flavors into something truly special. This is the type of beer you savory as it warms up a bit. It's no wonder they serve it in a brandy snifter type glass. It's the fine cognac of stone's beers, and if you've tried their beer you know they don't mess around.
This beer was not going to be sold to the masses originally, but the employees loved it so much they had to share their passion with everyone. Thank you Stone Brewing, truly a work of art.

Black body, tan head. Rings of foam get left along the glass every time you take a sip.
You wouldn't expect a beer that pours black as night to smell as hoppy as it does. Notes of coffee, chocolate, slight citrus, hops and malt. There's a lot going on.
Flavor is odd, it has the bitterness of an IPA, but shares its body with the flavor profile of a stout. Bitter finish, slightly spicy at times. Stone has an interesting way of attacking your palate with overwhelming flavors... This beer is really no different.
Can't quite understand it, but it's certainly different, and that makes it worth trying,
