August 2004. Tasted December 2005. I had this when it was fresher and enjoyed it very much, this sampling is after a bit of aging, but it still delicious. Pours a dark brown with some coppery tones when swirled in the light. The head is a slightly brownish off-white, which rings the glass nicely with lace. Smells sweet, rich and caramelly with a mild spiciness and a bit of alcohol. Very inviting overall in both appearance and aroma. Very smooth with a medium body. Tastes sweet with a bit of chocolate blending with the caramel found in the aroma. Some dryness in the finish with a bit of a hop bite. A very drinkable beer, which hides its alcohol quite nicely. A very different offering from Stone, which I wish was regularly available.

On tap at Lucky Baldwins in Pasadena, CA.
Pours a murky dark brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, caramel, citrus zest, and some herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with a mild roasty and citrus zest bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a low level of carbonation with an almost flat mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that smells better than it tastes in my opinion.

Draft to 4oz Taster
WinterStorm 2012
App- Mixing interestingly in the glass was a light brown with ambers/golds. Not a spec of head on it or cling.
Smell- Almost identical to Stone 7, which is suprising because of the difference in styles. I did smell more malt vs the soap on this one.
Taste- A really pleasant malty flavor with a small amount of bitter. A bit thick at points but a little bit of citrus crept into it.
Mouth- A lighter medium with a medium high carbonation and some sweetness.
Drink- Just okay. It was a bit all over the place with feel and looks but tasted good. Probably wouldnt want again.

Enjoyed this over the weekend at a tasting.
Amber pour, very cloudy. Not a lot of head. The smell is very deep, caramel malts, molasses. Balanced, but you can tell it has a lot of age on it. Much like an old ale. Luckily, no oxidation. The taste doesn't follow the smell hardly at all. A little like a light barleywine. Roastiness or coffee finish it off. The taste really surprises me following the smell. Light to medium body. Carbonation is holding up well. Alcohol is only slightly noticeable. This was really tasty. Considering I was 16 in 2004 this was a treat to try.

Consumed bomber after about a year cellared.
This is a brown ale with layers of IPA and even barley wine. Yum.
A - Firebrick red color like black cherry jello; dark goldenrod medium head with chunky, sticky lace.
S – Didn’t get much of a shot at smelling this stuff because I could not hold off on taking a slug. So much flavor. Will be a while before I can smell again. With help from my 15 year old daughter who is a fine sniffer, I agree there’s hoisin sauce, coffee grounds, plum and almond goin on there.
T –Smoke, pineapple, toffee, roast beef, fine whiskey, some chocolate, balanced with light hops bitter at the end. Rich, but not excessive. Plenty going on with each taste.
MF – Medium full bodied. Hits all mouth parts evenly.
D – To be savored in a nice snifter. To me, this belongs with your tawny port lineup.
A great brewery presenting something special for their fans. I’m one now more than ever.

On tap at Stone Winter Storm 2011.
A: Dark reddish brown with a fizzy beige head and okay retention and lacing.
S: Toasted bread with nuts and a little chocolate. ABV is strong for the style, but it's hardly detectable here. I get a little plum and date. Oxidation is sherry-like. There's an interesting smoky quality perceivable when the beer warms up toward room temperature.
T: Toasted bread and nutty with an earthy character. I get a dash of chocolate and a hint of date. Alcohol is subtle. Finish is smooth with a lingering breadiness. There's a dark fruit undercurrent reminiscent of plum. Oxidation is complementary. The finish is dry. There's a little heat in the end and a low bitterness throughout, though no detectable hop flavor.
M: Upper medium body with moderate carbonation. Mouthfeel is creamy, dry, and sticky, with notable warming.
Overall: I really enjoyed this. It's held up very well, though Stone probably cold stores. Pairs well with new age music, or so Stone would have me believe.

Thanks to FtownThrowDown for this one.
Poured a hazy brown with a slight white head.
Smelled of raisin and fruit.
Had a sweetness to the taste. Some licorice, raisin, fruit, and a little bit of malt character. The hops were subdued but not gone. Left a lingering Dubbel type of taste in your mouth, a note of alcohol in it.
The beer was smooth and not overly carbonated or bitter. Went down easy and was easily drank. Time did this one well.
I enjoyed this one and it was awesome to have this 6 year old brew.
