Poured from a bomber into my arrogant bastard pint glass, a golden slightly hazy color to the body, barely any head on this brew at all with a small amount of carbonation reaching the surface.

The smell on this brew is fresh hops, almost but not quite citrus, and a sweet malt forward honeyed tingle. Smells a lot like hawaiin sweetbread to me, dense and delicious.

The flavor has some spiciness to it but on the whole was actually quite unimpressive I thought, including the mouthfeel in that I was suprised at how thin and bland it tasted and felt. The hawaiin sweetbread smell turned more towards a biscuit flavor that didn't impart too much sweetness and left me desiring a bit more, The hops are there though, i mean seriously it is a stone brew so you really can't go wrong.

Pours a crystal clear gold color with a one-finger white head. The head recedes into a thin layer on top leaving solid lacing.

Smells of ripe pears with good amounts of robust sweet malts with a hint of biscuit. Also present are mild amounts of indistinct spices lurking in the background.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Smooth, sweet malt flavors kick things off with very light hints of breadiness. Coming in shortly thereafter are good amounts of light fruits - mostly pears but also mild amounts of bruised bananas. Rounding things out is a light spiciness that carries through to a crisp ending on the sweet side of things.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with smooth carbonation.

Drinkability is also good. I finished my glass without a problem and could have another.

Overall this was a very solid tripel that didn't get overly sweet with a bit of age on it. Worth a shot.

Poured into a Stone tulip. A slightly hazy honey gold. A head of white falls quickly to a thin ring. No lace.
Aroma is wonderfully bready and spiced. Fruity. Nothing hinting at hops. Flavor is nicely sweet with a strong spice character. Peppery in a way, which is bolstered by a understated alcohol heat. A very light bitterness, just enough to balance. Finish is spicy with a little heat. A nice combination - lightness of carbonation, drying alcohol, residual sweetness. Overall moderate to light brew.

Thanks to seanboley for sharing this 22oz. bomber on 3/18/10.

A - Poured a clear golden body with sparse carbonation and a minimal white head that reduced to a patchy film and thin ring of retention.

S - Initial aroma is very floral and sweet with hints of rose petals, candi sugar and sweet berries.

T - Lots of sweet, fruity character right from the get-go suggesting fleshy tree fruit akin to apples and pears. A slightly spicy presence is also apparent in the middle, followed by floral notes reminiscent of rose and lavender. While a moderate alcohol warmth is apparent, the flavor is quite sweet overall... perhaps even a bit too sweet.

M - Medium bodied with a very syrupy texture. Finishes dry with a lot of residual sweetness and a hint of spicy heat on the palate.

D - Pretty tasty Belgian-style Tripel overall, although I found it to be a bit on the sweet side... kind of like a Tripel doused with liquid sugar.

Split amongst friends at a recent gathering. Thanks goes out to Swimsum for bringing this treat!

Poured into a snifter.

Appearance: Cloudy, honey-colored body with a thin, white, foamy halo on top. No lacing. Pretty weak retention. Meh.

Smell: Warm apple pie, overripe banana, honey, clove, and maybe even cinnamon. Lots of candy-like sweetness in here. Very fun to quaff.

Taste: Dough, clove, leafy hops, and banana, with a touch of sourness/funk from the Belgian yeast. Not as exciting or deep as I had hoped. Pretty good overall; mellow.

Mouthfeel: Actively carbonated with tiny, soft bubbles. Medium-bodied and very dry. Nice amount of mouth-numbing.

Drinkability: Other than the smell, this was a very forgettable tripel. With that said, Sawyer's is still a solid beer. I probably won't buy it again, but I wouldn't mind drinking it.

Consumed Feb 7th, 2010 at Stone World Bistro.

Mostly clear light gold, almost lemony yellow. Minimal head, slight lacing. No discernable carbonation activity in glass.

Floral, perfumey aroma.

Flavor follows nose, mostly. Slight citric lemon zest, some soft yeast. No bitterness to speak of. A shame, since there is nothing to really offset the sweetness that borders on cloying. Flavor was not as complex or strong as other reviewers have noted.

Mouthfeel is unremarkable.

Not especially drinkable as it's just too sweet. This may have finally passed its prime.

Poured into Stone Old Guardian glass.

Pours 12 finger of white head. Fades fast. Some light splattered lace left. Color is a slight hazed golden orange. Fairly clear.

Aroma: bubble gum, right of the top, bananas, cloves, light spices, Belgian yeast. Kind of dry.

Taste: More spice notes, but a lot like the aroma. Bubble gum and Belgian yeast with bananas and cloves. A nice amount of grassy hops as well. A very nice tripel.

Mouthfeel: Crisp, dry, and relatively smooth. Medium bodied with a nice amount of carbonation. Ends a little dry, but fairly clean.

Overall, this is a solid tripel. Very well to the style. I am definitely enjoying this and my 1/2 bomber will be good for me. Glad I got to try this one.

I went through a bomber of this during dinner at Stone. It was a hazy gold colour with fine white foam capping the beer. Decent head retention, but not much in the way of lacing. The aroma was bready with notes of banana, cloves, and spices. The same character was present in the flavour, but was balanced by a mild bitterness, wheat crackers, and light strawberry sweetness. Medium bodied with lowish carbonation and it was a bit on the dry side. Overall, a decent triple with some character that I associate more strongly with weissbier.

Thanks to Thirstybird for hosting and sharing. 22oz. bottle split amongst four tasting snifters. Pours a translucent orange-gold; no head, no lacing. Nose is citrusy, with a noted hops presence, a hint of spice and a slightly earthy quality. Taste follows nose; however, some candi sugar comes out in the flavor profile. Mouthfeel is light-medium, with a mild, even carbonation and a semi-dry finish with a lightly lingering acidity. Easy drinking tripel without being cloying. Definitely Stone's expression of a classic style.

A - Slightly hazy pale yellow/orange. Off white head disappears quickly to a wisp.
S - Spice, sweet malt, a touch of banana and tropical fruit.
T - Sweet honey malt, tropical fruit, some spice. Nice dry aftertaste.
M/F - on the light side of medium body. Nice carbonation which is fine in structure.
D - A nice tasty triple. Well balanced and interesting enough.

Smell is yeasty and sweet with some fruit

Taste is hop bitterness followed by Belgian sweetness then some
spicy peper notes

This is a great belgian tripel, worth picking up if you can find it.

Thanks to oldstylecubsfan for this bomber.

Pours exceptionally clear golden amber with a small and very short-lived soapy white head. It recedes quickly, leaving no bubbles at all and no lacing.

Sweet light fruits mix with sugar in the aroma and a lightly toasted malt backbone with very subtle spicy yeast in the nose. There's also some orange peel and some light peppers.

The taste has an initial citrus hop kick, though it's very faint before the light fruity esters and Belgian yeast sweetness take over. The finish is definitely spicy though, maybe some coriander and pepper, and the taste is not as sweet as the nose overall - certainly more layers in the taste.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low to medium carbonation with a dry spiciness rounding it out on the palate.

This is an excellent and very drinkable triple that has plenty of complexity in the taste especially, where the spices do a great job of balancing out the dominant fruity sweetness.

Was surprised to see this in my roommates section of the beer cellar. This beer definitely has some age on it... Let's see how it's drinking!

The appearance is typical triple, no stand out/ out of the ordinary characteristics. Very clear orange brown with a light white head. The smell is fairly bold and a little bit spicy. Tons of corriander adds a cherry applesque scent. Tons of dry orange peel. The taste is mostly filled with dry orange peel and the belgian yeast is very noticeable. Drinkable, but nothing special.

Served into a standard pint at about 40 degrees.

Shows a straw yellow with a thick, white froth and decent lacing. Pretty aromas of honey, belgian candy sugar, grapefruit, pineapple, lemon, light banana, hop spice, and a little yeast funkiness. Sweet, but crisp with citrusy flavors of grapefruit, lime, and orange are accompanied by a bready malt and funky yeast. Overall a solid brew with a nice hop presence, but not bitterness.

Picked up at recent brewery visit. Poured into tulip, slightly hazy and golden. Creamy 2 finger head with minimal retention and lacing. Smell is of candi sugar, some fruit (almost hefe like) and yeast. Taste is of sweet ripe fruit, some spice, yeast and bread. Slight banana after taste which I dont think I've ever said before, maybe I'm just nuts. Mouthfeel was fine, a little thin. Overall a great beer and definitely different than most every one of there other beers, hops are not the defining characteristic here. And, given the spirit behind this beer, how can you not enjoy drinking this. Cheers to Stone for supporting such a great cause.

Poured into a chalice a nice clean/clear golden yellow color, nice carbonation, nice little fizzy white head, with some sticky lacing left behind. The nose is malty, with some nice yeast notes, spicy. The taste is malty, yeasty, bitter, a good dose of spice. Medium body. Drinkable, a nice little brew.

Bomber from Stone into Duvel glass.

A: Pretty golden slightly orange color. Nice head upon poor. Dissipates gradually. Some of the head is brought after agitation. Mild to moderate lacing.

S: Orange and floral nose up front. Little bit of vanilla. Quite sweet smelling.

T: Orange peel, cream, spice, something I can't quite make out... cloves? I don't know. Quite complex. Very satisfying.

M: Not exceptionally viscous for the style, but quite nice. Moderate carbonation.

D: I could fully session this beer. That probably wouldn't end well though.

As usual, very impressed with Stone's venture into a Belgian style.

Sampled from a 22oz bottle purchased at the Stone Brewery.

A - A light golden color with good clarity and very little head.

S - Spicy with clove and some banana.

T - A spicy start with lots of clove and a hint of pepper. Then it becomes semi-sweet yet the spices linger faintly. This is a good American brewed Belgian.

M - A moderate consistency and a nice low carbonation.

D - This is easy to drink beer brewed for a good cause. I hope the donated proceeds make a difference.

Purchased from brewery gift shop. Pours radiant light amber to honey golden with white head that retains well. Nose is the best feature with delightful floral, esters, angel foodcake and birthday cake icing. Palate brings forth the candy sugar with a good amount of banana and alcohol warmth towards the end. Rather assertive, as I expected it to be, but not one of the best Tripels I've had.

Clarity: clear. Gold color, poured with little head. Average carbonation: maybe 2-2.5 volumes.

Smells of fruit and flowers (orange blossom?).

Citrusy hops complement the yeast esters. Tastes of fruit all the way through. Maybe a little clove as well.

Tons of fruit flavor in this beer.

Mouthfeel: clean, light body.

Pours a clear orangey gold color with a small, wet white head. Little if any lacing. Big bruised apple and banana aroma, very fruit salad-like. Flavor is very similar but there's a light spiciness in the finish. No trace of alcohol but the beer is rather sweet which hurts the drinkability. Semidry finish, smooth.

Pours dark hazy golden with a thick head that leaves globs of lacing as it dissipates.

Aroma is wheaty, with generous bubblegum. Hint of lemon and honey.

Taste is candied sugar and citrus fruit. Bubblegum, lemon grass and honey as the nose suggested. Lingering subtle yeasty spice.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, smooth and soft.

Tasty, smooth and very drinkable. Flavor is balanced and unified. Definitely worth a try.

Poured a bright orange with a thick and creamy long lasting off white head.

The smell was strong and fruity with a big sweet banana nose and a hint of candy sugar.

A big fruity blast up front with banana, apricot, and mango's all coming through, the yeast then becomes prevalent along with a clean bit of wheat and a some dry grassy hops.

The mouthfeel was creamy and full with a long lingering dry finish.

Very solid Tripel, I like it.

22 oz bottle into a Chimay glass. Bought this direct at the brewery back in March.

Pours a clear copper with a thin covering of fizzy eggshell colored head. Not much retention or lacing to this. Overall flat look after a bit. Fruity notes really shine here in the aroma, with green apple, orange peel, and yeasty banana phenols all shining brightly. Peppery spices make themselves known as well, as does lightly sweet smelling undercurrent of candied sugars and bread.

The taste is very similar, if not with just a tad less pop to it. A sweet base of bread and fruity citrus chracter with a dose of peppery clove and heavy warming yeasty accents in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with that near 8% ABV providing some definite beef to the body. Yet it still maintains a pretty effervescent and prickly feel in the mouth, which helps this go down better than the first sip would indicate.

A solid Tripel here for sure, I really dug on the aroma and all around drinkibility of this for the size. It's nice to see Stone experimenting more with the Belgian styles beyond the Vertical Epic line.

Bright hazy orange color with a short white head and light lacing. Nose of orange and light malt and lemon peel.

The hit here is in the flavor and balance. Wonderful malt and fruit (stone fruit and banana) in the front palate and nice subtle but bitter grapefruit hops on the back palate and finish.

The balance of this beer just may be perfect. The mouth feel is big but not too thick. The balance of fruit, malt, yeast, hops and citrus is perfect, as is the carbonation which is "just right." Rich and bold flavors that seem to be great for anything. Simply put, it just tastes good and you want more! What could be better?

The finish is a light fruit that goes to grapefruit and is long lasting and pleasant. '

This is a beer to quench thirst, consume with all kinds of food; and you could even sip as a delicious strong ale.

I waited too long to try this one! This is one of the best all around quality beers I've tried. When evaluating the perfect beer (whatever that is...) this would be in the running. I will definitely add more of this to my home stock the next time I'm at Stone.
