A solid stop on the V&A waterfront. Lots of macro beers but one craft draft (BrewDog Punk) and a half dozen bottles (Kwak, Fullers ESB, couple of other BrewDog bottles).
Good vibe, despite the fact that smoking was allowed inside, though apparently not outside. Service was good. People were friendly, as was always the case here.
Good stop.

Atmosphere: Pleasant vibe and great location at the V&A waterfront. Usually pretty busy.
Quality: The beer is average (by global standards) but a lot better than most South African stuff. The beers I had were fresh and fairly tasty.
Service: I found the bar staff to be rather unfriendly and not in the slight bit interested in the beer they were serving. I think I would have spent quite a bit more time there and tried a few more beers if the staff had been friendlier and knowledgeable/ interested in the beer they brewed.
Selection: Not outstanding, but again better that anything else you are going to find in Africa. There were a number of international beers that they served that are not available anywhere else in the country.
Value: Very well priced! Some of the cheapest food and beer at the Waterfront.
I will have to visit them again on my next trip to Cape Town - hopefully the service will have improved.

A - As others have mentioned, this is right on the V&A Waterfornt. It's just down the street from one of the entrances to the shopping mall. There were tons of tourists there, but it was the world cup, so that was to be expected. We had a seat outside since it was such a nice day, but we had to fight the cigarette smoke typically not found in California. It was fun to people watch though.
Inside, there was a large bar, with sporting decorations all around. The rugby game was on the TV.
Q - The beer was so so, but it was the best stuff I had in S Africa. So, it's hard to say exactly what the Quality is.
S - Our waitress was friendly. Though she described the Old Wobbly as bitter. Coming from So Cal, I was disappointed in the bitterness of it, but did feel the 11%.
S - Standard pub fare, but a good selection of international pub stuff and S African food. I had the steak and chips special located on the little sign on the outside of the establishment.
F - What I had was great, though they need to learn the difference between medium and medium rare. Steak was still tasty, and it's hard to mess up french fries.
V - 3 beers each, and 2 sets of steaks and chips, all for about $25. Yeah, S Africa is cheap and fantastic.

located at the beautiful but waaaay over-tourist-infested Cape Town Waterfront.
having read about this place ahead of time, and travelling for 3 weeks in africa with another beer enthusiast, we were craving a decent beer as this was towards the end of our trip
the atmosphere is pretty interesting...it was a really nice day so we actually sat outside and people-watched. there were a handful of tables right out front with nice views of table mountain and the waterfront noise. inside was full of what appeared to be locals and walls decked out in scottish pub fare
there were 6 or 7 beers on tap...i consumed 1 and tried a few others with nothing being very good, but hell we were in africa and i suppose it was better than Castle
service was just fine, but on the low end of the africa scale...i doubt anybody knew anything about beer but didnt ask
selection was pretty small but probably had something for everyone (a high abv, a few low alcohol pilsners, a stout, a few scottish selections)
food - this was day 4 or 5 of not being able to eat much due to some sort of mutant african virus but the food we ordered and the rest of the menu struck me as fried pub fare, which may be exactly what one is looking for when they stop in here
like everything else in south africa, with the Rand being pummeled by the dollar, this place was cheap as can be

This place is great!! Cape Town only has afew brewpubs so you have to take what you can get..The wait staff are friendly and beautiful, The atmosphere is wonderful and also beautiful, and the beers are actually quite bloody tasty!! There is a kind of euphoria at this place..."I am sitting at the waterfront, enjoying a tasty beverage while looking up at the mountains and out to the sea....life is good" and yes they do sell bottles to take home, fresh is the word, The whole establishment is CLASS!

This is part of the V&A Waterfront entertainment and shopping district, a very touristy destination. Not surprisingly they seem to sell a lot of macro-beer esp. Guinness. The staff was friendly enough but didn't comment on the beer and seemed surprised when asked where to buy it in the bottle. There seemed to be no way to tour the production facility and the bottled beer they sold me was packaged in a plastic bottle which was marked as best consumed two weeks before I visited.
The selection of micro-brew is a greatly appreciated feature in South Africa but this place is ultimately a tourist bar that has a few better than average brews but doesn't push them.

One of the better places to get a beer during my trip to Cape Town. In the trendy Waterfront district. They have a (for South Africa) a great variety of beers to choose from.
What was disappointing is that the staff did not seam to know the difference between the beers. I asked the difference between the two stouts and the bartender didn't know.
Rumor is that they will be taken back over by the people in Knynsa and that will hopefully improve the knowledge of the people working there.
The food looked good but we didn't try it.
