Average Red Ale with a great name for a columbus brew. Fun to serve in th fall for OSU games. Needs a little better flavor and bitterness.

They call it a red ale, but I don't know what that means. Not much smell, mild taste at first with a nicely bitter aftertaste. There was a lovely, beige head that subsided into a lasting cover to the beer. I will admit that I appreciate that it's local to me. Not my first choice for a beer, but good overall.

12 oz bottle

Pours clear amber brown, eggshell head retains well as a film.

Smells of biscuit, brown sugar, caramel and pecan.

Flavor is of biscuit, buckwheat, maple, caramel and toast. Mildly grassy finish.

Medium body, tingly carbonation on the tongue.

Decent drinkable medium ale. Good body and aroma. Worth trying.

Received two cans as a gift. It's the thought that counts. Surely it isn't the taste.
This one is pretty awful. Dirty smell and dirty malt taste with the wrong kind of bitterness. I dumped the beer and never opened the second can.
No redeeming quality here.

Poured from 12-ounce bottle into a proper straight-sided mug. This was a bit of a gusher, with the foam coming out of the bottle upon opening and a very tentative pour yielding almost a full glass of head. Very nice once it settled. Deep copper-colored body, with the generous eggshell colored head sticking around for quite a while. Seems to be pretty representative of the ESB style, except that this sample had a lot of carbonation. Light caramel and some fruity tartness on the palate, with a dry finish and a little lingering bitterness. What else is there to say except "Go Bucks!"

16 ounce can into pint glass, no can dating. Pours slightly hazy deep orange/copper color with a 1-2 finger dense and fluffy light khaki headh with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of nuttiness, raisin, plum, apple, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of nuttiness, raisin, plum, apple, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, an y east earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, and lightly sticky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice Irish red/ESB style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Looks great with its thick and foamy beige head sitting on top this crystal clear redness that's happening.

I get a lot of sweet malty fun in the nose, as it's a little reminiscent of that fresh malts smell that's you get in a brewery, but on the sweeter side.

Taste immediately rings the nose true as it leans to malty sweet and a little tart fig or something similar. Following is a bitterness that is fairly nondescript, like bitter soda water. Subsequent tastes bring out more berry, maybe even cola. Nothing overly hoppy.

A little sweetness lingers, but mostly the aftertaste is a bit like a vegetable aftertaste.

I wasn't really expecting much from this one (not reason other than the "the" Ohio State University association. ...) but turns out to be a pretty nice little beer.

Pours a deep Amber color. Aroma is malts and a funky tart note, not sour but tart. Flavor is malt forward with a bready mouthfeel and a crisp finish. Overall this could be way better, but not bad.

Toasty red malt is a little metallic and the hop bite is sharp and bitter. The style is not currently my cup of tea but this isn't a particularly good one either.
